A Fantasy RPG Concept, with a Christian Twist

I think Prophetism sounds cool. I have to wonder, though, how many Gods will we have? Because if the religion is based around magic we could easily have like different types of gods.

And how are the other religions coming into play? I mean if Prophetism is the only religion that allows access to magic, wouldn't that kind of make it seem like the only one true religion? Unless the other faiths allow access to different kinds of magic... Hmm.

To answer your question 8bit... you'll just have to wait. But for now, there is one god, God. You can use your mind to figure the rest out. Well, all the religions in our world that don't use magic, use magic in that one. So, say your Wiccan in the RPG, well ebcause of Terraprim's oposition to Earth, Wiccans arten't allowed to use magic. It's vice/versa here. This is also a way of looking at religion in a new wya, not just the way we are used to.

But there will be religiions that don't even exist here at alll these religioins might use magic. And your other Q 8bit, yes, these new religions would use different magic.

Well, does anyone have anymore ideas they'd like to add? Maybe a religion of your own perhaps, I'm open.

Oh, in the new Underground thread, I'm going to put excerts from the Prophetism bible for people to read, instead of swamping them at the sign-ups.
That sounds believable, the whole each religion uses different magic idea. But remember where Prophetism has the most power on Terraprim. That'd probably be because either their magic and technology is more powerful than other religions', or they use a more diverse array of them.
Or, they could use what is widely considered to be a more powerful magic, like control over flame or some such. Maybe they're more prolific in their use of magic, not showing restraint where other religions do. Power is in the eye of he who is cast to the dust in the face of it.

In my opinion, making them all-powerful seems to diminish the importance of the other religions, and might be restrictive to those who wish to belong to other sects.

If anyone's played Final Fantasy X, then you know that every different faith is about a different element. I've decided that there will be Super-Churches where people can pray and obtain new prophets. The prophet you start out with, is your character's Destined Partner, that chose your character at the age of 16.

BTW, Stonehenge will play a big role in this world for it's mysteries are a little more solved in Terraprim. And, all religions will undergo different names then the ones now so people won't get offended.

AHHH! 'Super-churches' are similar to Faiths? What a ripoff :P
Joke, joke.
Rant time.

But seriously, thinking about elements there should be a set range of like 6 of them. Any more and you're starting to go way overboard.
Suggestions for possible elements:
- Fire-based [duh]
- Water-based [clearly we require opposing elements]
- Wind-based [no fart jokes]
- Wood-based [don't laugh at this one either]

This is where I get stuck. As this is an RPG based around religion [and what RP isn't, seriously look at it from all angles here], we'd want to steer clear from making a 'darkness' and a 'holy' element. I'm thinking that the final two elements, if there were only six, would possibly be something like a Lunar-based element and a Non-Elemental form of magic.

Looking at Children of Mana and the 'Companion Spirits', they give you eight elemental spirits. The elements here are Fire, Water, Light, Dark, Wind, Wood, Moon and Earth.

This is just something that flew through my mind at the mention of Faith-like areas where Prophets [Aeons] choose their partners.
Prem if you already had a list of elements in your head would you mind throwing them out here for discussion? That would be ever-so-swell :P

Well, I always use the same elements. Fire, water, earth, wind, ice, light, darkness, steel. Prpohets are more like things form Shaman King. You can fuse them to your weapons and bodies. I actually got this idea from Soul Nomad and the World Eaters where the main character has the soul of a deity in him.

I'm thinking of a "god is the sun and jesus is the moon" to give it a more galactic feel instead of just saying god is up there with jesus.

I just wanted to say lol. And I'm not thinking that. Light is god, and darkness is Satan, it jsut goes that way.

Right, well just for the fun of it I'll throw my own opinion in here. It's not right or wrong, and quite frankly a bit twisted :P
Lucifer = Light-bringer. Lucifer is also Satan.
This has been established and repeated many times. Satan is the 'fallen one'. This is just what I've heard and read, and I haven't done any in depth research on it so believe me if I'm wrong correct me. So thinking along this wavelength you could say that God could be Darkness and Lucifer, the light-bringer, tried to shine too brightly or blah blah whatever, hence him being cast into the fiery depths of hell. [Not forgetting that when you shine light through a magnifying glass, what do we get? Fire]

Think back to the first KH game. Without light there cannot be darkness. By the same token wherever there is light darkness must follow.
Just as God could allegedly be Light, he could also be Darkness. This would just make Satan 'Light', correct?
Now if you want to start on about 'but that makes God evil and he's supposed to be all-loving', think of Light's harsher qualities and then apply them to Satan, and apply Darkness's cooler, calming qualities to God.
Since one must be there in order for the other to exist, so also could either 'element' apply to either 'being'.

If Terraprim is a topsy turvey world then you could switch Light = Satan and Dark = God, just for good measure.
Or leave these elements out to keep arguments to a minimum.

That's just my little speel, and my reasoning for leaving out holy/light and dark elements.
Sorry if I confuse it was another rant ^^;

That makes a lot of sense. And since these religions are what everybody's going to make of them anyway, someone could definitely see it like that.
And I love the idea about prophets. This is starting to look more like an RP and less like an apocalypse scenario. Don't know what we're fighting for yet, but that's probably coming up soon.

Question: Is there some sort of rebellion going on in the Prophetism church? Like a religious civil war? Just a thought. A church that large is bound to have old and young generations with conflicting ideas on the faith. It's been one of the driving forces behind religious development in our world for more than 2,000 years.

Well, the church is finally realizing that the new generation is changing. Clothes, style, music. And they aknolwedge that. My character is going to be an emo, and his prophet is going to be a smart-ass spirit of an old Prophet silenced long ago. So this parring won't get good reception.

Satori, I don't think a switch is in order, I have to hae those things the same so I don't get too off the ball.

Just a thought, wouldn't that make Satanists, good guys? You did say everything's the opposite. So that makes Christianity a bad religion, and Satanism a good religion.

Oh no no no no no... Satanists are BAD for sure. The way the practice works is upside down. Religion's that use magic turn to Magicless religions. Magicless relegions turn to magic using religions.

Anyways, I'm going to have this up momentarily, the RPG will be titled "The Legend of Terraprim" so watch out.

I noticed that the auditions thread went up. Hope you don't mind that I joined.

Also, satanism isn't about black chants around a flaming pentagram with virgin sacrifices to satan. Satanists, ironically enough, do not believe in satan. They believe in the power of man, and choose to exemplify master morality. Calling them "bad" is like calling any other completely subjective thing "bad".

I feel myself on the verge of a "good and evil" rant, quoting lots of Blake and Nietzsche. Stop me before I do so.
