Allamorph
I don't know how many of you know about this already, but it's funny enough that I thought I'd throw it out here for you. Apparently, the team from the electronics news/reveiws-ish site gizmodo.com were supplied with those fun little TV-B-Gone remotes when they attended the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), and being real human beings, they proceeded to play the most horrible, hilarious prank I've seen in a while, given the setting. I mean, I'd do it at the drop of a hat in a bar, restaurant, kids' hangout, mall, whatever, but at a convention?! I dunno..... Those guys now have my official respect.
Mr. Maul
They're called "balls." And just like you said, anyone with them deserves respect.

Sandy
Ah, how did humankind ever survive without big screens? Those people were totally lost without them. XD
Gavin
Heh funny stuff, but as Allamorph said, I dunno if doing it at a convention is a great idea, people's jobs could be affected by it.
Mr. Maul
people's jobs could be affected by it.
That seemed to be the most common reason as to why people didn't find humor in it (if you read the comments on the vid). However, if you really think about it, I don't believe that reason holds much water. I mean, what sensible boss is going to fire someone just because the product they were displaying was "faulty"? Granted, sales could be affected by unimpressed convention-goers, but even then, I suspect that the attendees of the convention only represented about 1% (if that) of their customer base. Please keep in mind, this is all (my thoroughly-unbacked) speculation.
Korey
Funnier still would have been if these guys did that during some larger gathering like the Evolution fighting game tournament or at E3. That would have made lots of people very irate, but yet that would have been unrivaled on the hilarious scale. That's total douchebaggery... I agree that it may affect people's jobs, but this was all in good fun and gizmodo did apologize for it. But I think it might be a sign of our prudish ways if we get all in an uproar about it. It was a harmless prank, the TVs actually do work now. I wonder if anyone bothered to even test the TVs after the fact. It also displays what kind of improv skills announcers and spokespeople have at these kinds of things when tech is an issue. I've had these problems before, and it isn't easy, but as a speaker you have to press on....like most of these guys did. So repsect to them.

Stupid, funny and unsurprising that something like that would get respect from Allamorph no less. In the end, a harmless funny prank. EDIT: Oh and I forgot, can't say that I find it respectable, funny but hardly respectable.

There's huge amounts of stress over them, and I can accept that if things go wrong, someone's job could be affected if the presentation was badly affected by the technical difficulties. All it takes is one angry decision from a stressed manager and someone could lose a job. That said, in this case, it seemed the Motorola guy took it in his stride so there was no real harm.
DeathKnight
Haha, that's hilarious! A group of bloggers going to an event on the basis of journalism acting like young children and doing justice to the revered, untarnished name of journalism - especially as far as blogging goes! I am really glad they took the chance to show what bloggers can do when invited to such a upscale event. Good show! Looking forward to CES 2k9 already, I think their invites must be in the mail right now.
dark desires
i'll have to agree it was pretty funny. But the only way for it to affect peoples job's greatly would have to be constantly turning off the tv's. Otherwise i see it only as a frustrating and upsetting prank XD lol. But no harm done to anyone so its all good.
