DeLarge
Almost definitely not a complete list, and in no particular order, but here goes: Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street: I enjoyed this film in as much as I enjoy Tim Burton's whole gothic style, however there were a few parts which jarred slightly for me. I felt that with Burton's cinematic style and the musical element, everything was almost jostling for space, and it felt a little crowded. But good solid story, and I thoroughly enjoyed Alan Rickman and Timothy Spall as real nasty pieces of work. Velvet Goldmine: I loved the whole culture that went behind this film - the glam rock lifestyle really entertains me. Very strong performances from all the central actors, namely Christian Bale, Ewan McGregor and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and I enjoyed Eddie Izzard's role as well. Boys Don't Cry: Depressing as hell, but Hilary Swank was incredible in this film. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the use of a cover version of the song "Boys Don't Cry," not the original Cure version. 21: Disappointing - glitzy and glamorous but with a paper-thin plot and a frankly fairly irritating central cast. It was pulled back from the brink of being total shite with Kevin Spacey and Lawrence Fishburne saving the movie. Fight Club: Violence, sex and a great plot - what more could you want from a movie? American Beauty: I couldn't quite believe it when I realised I hadn't seen this film before. Funny, sexy and with an incredible performance from Kevin Spacey. Die Hard 4.0: Definitely not as good as the others in the series, but still a good fun film to watch on a dull Sunday afternoon. Explosions and car chases - a great manly film. Hot Fuzz: One of my favourite comedy films of all time - I've followed Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright and Nick Frost from their very early careers and I'm still an enormous fan. High Fidelity: I. Love. This. Film. It's the film that makes every man want to own a record shop and start making top 5 lists - I'm amazed that it can do it to me every time. A Clockwork Orange: Massive fan of this film and Kubrick in general - as my screen name suggests. Others I'm too lazy to review: Juno The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (the original) Baseketball The Bourne Ultimatum Shooter Stardust Dead Man's Shoes Evil Dead 2 This Is Spinal Tap
Panache
A Clockwork Orange: Massive fan of this film and Kubrick in general - as my screen name suggests.
I actually saw this movie this year and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Even though I was sort of confused as Bravo said this was a HORROR movie and it was more of a satircal dark comedy with elements of mystery,sci-fi and other stuff I really can't describe. But it for damn sure wasn't horror. Oh and Alex DeLarge is the definition of cool.
eleanor
There Will be Blood: Daniel Day-Lewis is amazing. Great movie. Why didn't it win best picture? Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle: Love. Love, love, love, love. Love Kal Penn and John Cho. Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay: Not as good as the first, but still pretty hilarious.
When Harold was lying in bed next to the inbred child, I could not stop laughing, no joke. And the poem was so adorkable. <3
The Descent: A solid horror flick. Although freakishly depressing. DeLarge
A few more, brief reviews this time: The 39 Steps: This was an interesting Hitchcock film in that it didn't have all that many of the elements that his films are classic for. Dial M for Murder: More characteristically Hitchcock than 39 Steps, and an entertaining film. Kung Fu Hustle: This film is fairly insane and cartoon-like, but I enjoyed it all the same. 300: How manly can you get? Paper-thin plotting, but gorgeous visuals and that's all I was really expecting from this film. Serenity: Another one of my favourite films of all time - the dialogue is great, and Chiwetel Ejiofor is fantastic as the Operative. Atonement: A real tear-jerker, I saw this at the cinema last year and watched it again on DVD recently, and still found it as good as the last time. Michael Clayton: A different side of George Clooney as an insurance company clean-up man. They managed to make a shot of Clooney staring at some horses in a field chock-full of emotion. 3:10 To Yuma: I went through a Western phase a while back, and this was a very good one, if not as good as some of the classics. Russel Crowe and Christian Bale had good, solid performances. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid: I could see straight away why this was a classic - funny, poignant, tense, it had it all. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: The dramatic tension in this film was really intense, and the music is some of the most classic to come out of a film in history. True Romance: I really have a soft spot for this movie - I love all the performances, especially Gary Oldman very much cast against type as a pimp. Others I'm too lazy to review: Freaks X-Men 2 X-Men: The Last Stand Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny Blade 1,2&3 Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy Casino The Prestige Reservoir Dogs Death Proof Total Movie Count:
Revelation
Alien VS Predator - Predator kills ugly, mother-effing ***** of an Alien. Pretty much a kick-*** movie, considering Predators are the ultimate hunters. Pan's Labyrinth - A story about a young girl who struggles to keep her identity as a child yet is on the verge towards preadolescence. Great reviews were given and the movie won many awards, was even on over 100 movie critics top 100 movies to watch. P.S. I Love You - The story behind it all is amazing and the way everything is organized it just absolutely incredible. I'll admit, I bawled like a baby while watching this. I mean, how can you not? A man leaves behind letters and tries to get his wife to live life the way she's supposed to: without regrets and without worry. You can't NOT love it. I Am Legend - A man trying to find a cure to a syndrome caused by a cure for cancer. It's quite sad that he lives life like that and even sadder that he lives with this mindset that the syndrome killed everyone and that it was his duty to find a cure and save however many people are left on earth. Reign of Fire - A movie about dragons and how man comes to defeat them. Simple as that. DeLarge
28 Days Later: really intense and eery, especially the scenes in a deserted London. I wasn't expecting Brendan Gleeson to pop up, either, but it was quite a welcome surprise. Brokeback Mountain: I had to watch this for my film course at college, and even though I was sitting next to quite a macho guy, I was practically crying my eyes out. Really moving film. Also I like sticking it to the Christian evangelists who berate this movie due to the homosexual themes. In Bruges: this film was ****ing fantastic, and I felt I needed to swear there because of the general feel of the film. It was funny and violent and filled with foul language, which is all good in my book. This Film Is Not Yet Rated: I don't know if this really counts, but it's a documentary about the MPAA, and I found it fascinating. The amount of Hollywood directors who are royally pissed off about the MPAA's rating policy is quite staggering. Funny little cartoons helped my concentration. Hee hee. The Golden Compass: I saw this in the cinema last year, and just got it on DVD, and was less disappointed the second time. I felt that it captured the overall feel of the books without really capturing the soul of them. And I was a huge fan of the books, so it was slightly disappointing. After he finds out, he is determined to make his life right. Black Sheep - The most ridiculously stupides movie I have ever seen. Okey, ONE of the most ridiculously stupidest movies. It's about mutant generated sheep who can change people into "sheeple" [sheep people] and they like to eat humans. Dragon Wars - Second time watching. Second time loving the graphics and despising the outlay of the entirety of the movie. I still think it's a disgrace to Korean movies. Although, I STILL think the graphics are eyegasmic. Sweeney Todd - Blood, gore and surprisingly, the one who played Mrs. Lovett was surprisingly beautiful. very goth. I just loved this film. I am Legend - Very dissapointing ending... but otherwise, awesome film. 21 - I saw this with my friends, but the sad thing was, I was the only one who liked it! I loved the theme of the movie, math and blackjack. Sadly, it didn't mesh really well. amibasuki
Sideways - freaking amazing movie. pacing was slightly slower than I would have preferred, but it was appropriate for the movie. it's one of those character development-focused movies (my favorite type), and a must-see for anyone else who favors those. Cats - second or third time watching it. if you don't like musicals, you probably won't like this either. it also helps to have background info about the musical, or it could be confusing. Barbershop - first ten minutes of it were so cheesy I almost turned it off right there. it got better after a while though. ending was corny as well. Raisin in the Sun plot, except more gangsta, or something to that effect. Cedric the Entertainer is great in it. Ice Cube sucked. if I were to watch it again, it would be in a guilty-pleasure way, since parts of it were pretty hilarious. Wanda Sykes: Sick and Tired - I LOVE this woman! one of my favorite comedians (best part about Evan Almighty too, which isn't saying much I guess). Angels in America - parts of it were amazing, and then parts of it were extremely disappointing. one of the main characters was just dropped and forgotten about at the end of the movie! some of the rhetoric of the movie felt too pretentious (which is what I think the playwright was going for, but I certainly didn't prefer it). however, everyone in their respective roles did an amazing job on their performances, and the musical theme for the movie is absolutely beautiful. But be 18, seriously. lol (Also, Kristen Bell and Mila Kunis in the same movie. <3) Cloverfield: Other than the fact that this movie wanted to make me projectile vomit over everything....wait, there was nothing else. Claire
Part of Star Wars: Episode IV Since my AP Language class ran out of work to do, we combined two different class periods and had a huge Socratic Seminar on Star Wars. I couldn't participate since the only episode I'd seen at that point was the third, but I came back to the classroom during my AP US History class to watch Episode IV with the other AP Lang period. I pretty much love it. Star Wars: Episode V LATER THAT DAY, some friends and I got together to watch this. The whole viewing consisted of us laughing at Darth Vader's dorkiness (probably my favorite part was
when his ship was chasing the Millenium Falcon thinking it couldn't use hyperspeed - I think I'm getting Star Wars confused with Spaceballs, I really don't remember - and they went ZOOOOOMM and he just stood there silently.
I laughed so hard.) Steel Magnolias My friend forced me to watch this, claiming I would cry at the end. But I did not cry. I was too bored to cry. In fact, I laughed (because I started thinking about Darth Vader again). So I would never ever watch this movie again.
Zen
Juno: I'm a huge fan of indie-comedies, and I am definetly a huge fan of Juno. It has a definite "Wes Anderson"-feel to it, but it still has its own spirit and uniqueness to keep it from being "Anderson-rip-off". Diablo Cody did amazing on the script, which kept me laughing for alot of the film. Michael Cera and Ellen Page are also two of the most convencing high school students I've ever seen, both physically and in attitude/swagger. I love the flick, and is one of my new favorites. Cody deserved the Oscar. Amazing. And so I leave you with "Pork Swords".
amibasuki
Requiem for a Dream - after the movie ended, everybody who was watching it with me were stunned and couldn't think of anything to say for a good 10-15 seconds afterwards. I myself am not (entirely) familiar with drug culture, but a few of the people watching it with me attested that it was all entirely accurate (worst-case scenario-wise also, but accurate). definitely not a feel-good movie, but incredibly powerful. Smiley Face - I saw clips of it on Youtube before and thought, "who would make such a ****** movie?", but curiosity got the better of me. actually, if you can handle the whole stoner movie thing, it's pretty funny. I guess it would help to have 'experience' in one way or another (first-person or second-hand) with said substance to appreciate it lol. I'm just glad it was under a hundred minutes long; much more than that would've been overkill. Tyler Perry's Diary of a Mad Black Woman - this is a play production on DVD I'm talking about. Tyler Perry is hilarious both as a playwright and an actor. the only real problem I had with the production was the guy who played Charles: great singing voice, but what a flat boar he is as an actor! didn't have me convinced in the end at all. the ending wasn't what I would have preferred btw, but I guess the ending it had was legitimate. Kimmeh
Oh God. Like I can remember all the movies I've watched at home... Luckily for me being a nerd though, I've kept all my ticket stubs from the movies. :3 Sweeney Todd: I saw it on the night it premiered, but that wasn't enough gore for me so I ended up seeing it again in January. I loved the Broadway version, so it was an obvious choice to go see it in theaters. And Johnny Depp in my opinion did a great job. (And hey, he actually can sing. He started out singing in his younger days.) No Country for Old Men: Oh my God. I was not expecting this movie to actually make me want to see it multiple times in theater. Originally I went to see it with some friends who were bored.. And it happened to be the only movie available around the time we got there. So we bought our tickets for it, and hoped to get our money's worth. I'd say we did. We talked about it for days afterwards. It's pretty gory, so I don't recommend it to someone who can't take violence very well. Otherwise, it's awesome. Except the ending kind of confused me the first time around. I think I got it now though. :3 Vantage Point: I honestly can't remember much of this movie. I need to see it again I guess. I don't remember being disappointed, though. XD Indiana Jones: It's definitely not like the original three.. But I didn't think it was that bad really. I enjoyed the movie personally. Sure, the story might have been a little corny, but I think that's what they were going for. They're trying to get younger people interested in the character himself. And I thought Harrison Ford didn't look too old. There were definitely points where you could see his age. (Mainly when he was wearing those dressy suits of his...) I expect I'll be seeing more this summer. School didn't let me get out the theater all that much this year.
Shinmaru
Haha, been a while since I have been in here. Glad to be back! Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: I enjoyed it for what it was, though it definitely was not as good as the original trilogy. There were some bits that were too silly for me (the refrigerator); however, I didn't have a problem with the whole
alien angle
since it fits in with the time period and isn't really too out of place with what Indiana Jones is all about. Also, Cate Blanchett ... pretty hot evil Russian, I must say. Futurama: The Beast with a Billion Backs: Didn't like this as much as Bender's Big Score. The plot jumps all over the place and doesn't really seem to fit together until the very end (and not in a good way where you're like, "Oh, so that's how they relate!"). Still, there's lots of funny stuff here. Fry continues his ascent to becoming the funniest character in the series, Professor Farnsworth's hilarious rivalry with Wernstrom takes a funny turn, and Zapp Brannigan has a large role. Not as good as I would have hoped but still solid. Magus
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End - I got word that this one was all that great. Infact, I got word that all 3 spring/summer releases (Pirates, Spider-Man 3, Oceans Thirteen) last year weren't up to par. I'll give ya my opinion about the other 2 in a bit. At first I didn't want to see Pirates, because of word of mouth. Eventually, I ignored all the talk and got around to giving it a shot, and I'm glad that I gave it a go, because I enjoy this one over the other 2, especially Dead Man's Chest. (I didn't really care for that one.) Even though it's expected because the theme is pirates and whatnot, all the backstabbing that was in it. Especially when it
came from Elizabeth and Sir William
. I was never a fan of them, but at the same time, I didn't think it suited them either. "shrugs" Maybe it was just me. The fighting was pretty good as well as the visuals. I think it was the visuals itself that hooked me. There were a few disappointments as well, mainly with Chow Yun Fat's role. I expected him to do some major fighting,
but the guy didn't stay alive long enough to do much of anything
. Unanswered questions still floating from me. (Calipso/Callipso/Cal/llypso is doing what now?) Outside of the minor stuff, I thought it was really good. Spider-Man 3 - If I was ever disappointed in a movie, this would be that movie. The fighting was good, but I was expecting so much with Venom. Honestly, they should've had this one to end in a big cliff hanger, and have Venom in the 4th movie, but "shrugs".. good thing I do make movies, I suppose lol. I didn't really care for Spidey in this one. Maybe it was Tobey himself that screwed up or something. The big head was ok, I guess, but the jazzy feel to it... It didn't sit well with me.
Whoever thought of that Tobey solo dance needs to be shot
. I felt that the best character in this movie was Harry. It's not that bad of a movie, it's just not living up to expectations now. Perhaps Spider-Man 2 set a bar too high for themselves to surpass. Oceans Twelve and Thirteen - Neither one of them were better than Ocean's Eleven, but I still like them both equally. Random moments were funny, and executing the plans were still as good as ever. I just don't see them topping the first robbery. That's all there is too it.

The Spectacular Professor
When I first saw the Thief and the Cobbler I was so amazed, but I couldn't find out more about the movie anymore. I'm so happy I saw this post. <3
Trick about The Thief and the Cobbler is the creator's grand design was never fulfilled. Richard Williams, the animation director for Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, intended this to be his masterpiece. He signed a deal with Warner Bros. to have it released, but it spent so much time in production that they dropped him and completed the film with a different director. Thanks to that, there are a few pointless additions like puns and both Tack and the Thief being able to talk. The Recobbled edition is a restoration project by fans to try to make the movie as close to the creator's original plans as they can. No denying even the official release was a good movie, though. Anyway, I just saw Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom yesterday for the first time ever. It was okay, but I think it was my least favorite of all 4. There was so much black magic going on for no apparent reason the entire time that it was even weirder than Crystal Skull. That said, Short Round was awesome, Willie was awesome and the heart surgery thing, though slightly gross, was pretty cool.
Shinmaru
Phone Booth: I liked it. Colin Farrell's not normally my cup of tea, but he's good here as a total douchebag who's boxed into a corner and pushed to his limit. Kiefer Sutherland is his usual awesome self -- his voice has a lot of character and really sells the feeling that he could kill Farrell's character at any moment. No denying even the official release was a good movie, though.
I should go back and watch the official release. Recobbled was good and all, but it was clear that after some point Richard Williams sacrificed good storytelling to push the limits of animation. I applaud his work as an animator, it's amazing, but it'd be interesting to see what the studios made of it. I barely remember anything from the official release, since I saw it when I was so little. But onwards: Otis: I (guess) it's an indie movie, as I don't think many people have heard of it and it was probably sort of low-budget. But, I think it's a great movie to watch with your friends. It's basically about this crazy guy who kidnaps young girls to recreate his fantasy of high school, although it's presented through a satire/black humor lens. Not amazing, it got sort of weird towards the end, but I still recommend it. Out of Africa: Robert Redford, yum. :3 It was a nice movie, but I found it too long. -_- WALL-E: SO GOOD <3 If you haven't seen it, what's wrong with you? Kung-Fu Panda: Also, very good. Very surprising as well, as I expected this to be another Dreamworks failure (the sequel for Madagascar in the previews made me want to die). It had some really funny parts, and overall a great movie! Wanted: Nice action flick to watch, but nothing more. But also, James McAvoy. Charlie Bartlett: Er. Shinmaru
The Dark Knight: Loved it. Didn't have problems with the length, the pacing, or anything. The only thing I would have done differently is
keep Two-Face alive because, as it is, it feels like he's been wasted
, but I don't know what the Nolans are planning for the third movie, so hey. Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay: I like the first movie, and I like this too. There are some situations that are a bit too similar to the first one -- most notably
the creepy farmer guy having a hot wife and some bizarre sexual hang-up (in this case, incest lol)
-- but the movie as a whole is still funny, so I didn't care too much. The funniest, and saddest, part is when
Neil Patrick Harris dies quite violently after branding a prostitute. Neil!!!!!!
Predator: So over the top and so much fun. It's hilarious listening to the Governator try to be sarcastic. Poor Arnie. Watching Jesse Ventura's
chest explode
was nice for me since I hated his character. The best part, however, is that apparently aliens also have macho pride. Arnold and the Predator preparing for their throwdown is soooo unintentionally funny, it's ridiculous. EDIT: Also, the '80s credit montage is glorious. Did they film that in case Predator was made into a TV series? :animesmil Movie Count: 29 (Live Free and Die Hard, Time Bandits, The Hustler, Black Dragon (Miracles), Hollywoodland, Blood Diamond, Animal Crackers, Marie Antoinette, Inside Man, The Fountain, Tombstone, Jurassic Park (Rifftrax), No Country for Old Men, Juno, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (Rifftrax), There Will Be Blood, Rize, Born Into Brothels, Eastern Promises, Gone Baby Gone, Hard Candy, The Matrix Reloaded (Rifftrax), Hot Fuzz, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Futurama: The Beast with a Billion Backs, Phone Booth, The Dark Knight, Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, Predator)
