This is a terrible occurance and although I was never much of a fan of him, I feel sorry for the family he has left behind.

R.I.P Heathcliff Andrew Ledger
(April 4, 1979 ? January 22, 2008)

You shall be missed

Oh dearie me. I did like him ever so much. This means though that Dark Knight will have to be his cinematic legacy.

I can only hope that it's as good as it looks in the previews. And if not, at least I'll always have the happy feelings of loving the preview...

And before anyone else calls it, I'd like to say right now that there are probably going to be unkind radical Evangelicals that say his death came as a punishment from God for being in Brokeback Mountain.

There. I called it.

Too late. Bastards are already plaguing Youtube with their smut.

Anyway, dang. I was just on my way to start this thread. I definitely feel for his wife and child. The way things are shaping up, there are suspicions of suicide. I'm going to wait to pass judgment until a further development, but I'm afraid to say I find it very hard to sympathize with suicidal people. No argument that he was a great actor, though.

I'm definitely not looking forward to watching the news for the next 9 months, though. Anna Nicole was bad enough.

Yeah but she was an annoying *****. Heath Ledger was handsome and an excellent actor.

And to be fair, I called it earlier as soon as I heard about it around 12 pm.

This news really is a shame, and unfortunately all roads on this one are leading to suicide.

I truly wonder whether it could have been some sort of an accident with the pills they found by Heath's bed. It seems highly unlikely, but maybe his body had some kind of violent reaction to the medication and it just shut down. Hmm ... That's a biiiig stretch.

I guess no questions will really be answered until his autopsy tomorrow. I'm just going to let this one go and try not to follow the gossip the news spreads. All I can honestly wish is that he rests in peace and that Heath's family and friends are coping with the news as best they can.

All paths don't lead to suicide here, actually. Right now the main suspicion is that the death was accidental. We'll find out soon anyway, no doubt.

I was never a huge fan of Heath, but he was a good local actor. I was commenting to a family member the other night about how Heath looked great as Joker (and how he was almost pulling a Johnny Depp with the excellent characterisation). I just hope I'm not disappointed by it in the end, lol.

But yeah, if it is as good as the preview seems, I think it will be a fitting legacy. Although it will be awkward to watch a totally new movie, knowing that one of the stars is already dead.

I know that now. I was somewhat relieved to hear that. Something about pneumonia, right?

Anyway, it's kind of ironic that you'd mention Johnny Depp, James. After watching one of the previews for DK today, one of the first things that came to my mind was that he could fill in if they ever needed another Joker for the Christian Bale movies.

And now we hope that this isn't some sick joke where he pops up at the premiere yelling "Why so serious!"

Well they really don't know. Pneumonia can kill people more readily than most think - even young, healthy people. This is especially true if you aren't properly treated (perhaps he was trying to self-medicate).

Alternatively, it could have been a drug overdose. The pills found near him were prescription, so who knows really.

The Dark Knight is finished now, so nobody would need to take Heath's role as The Joker. But certainly, I think that role may quite possibly be remembered as his best role. From the previews I've seen, he really does seem to be creating a unique character.

I know that. I meant if they needed another Joker for a future installment, Johnny Depp would be perfect.

Sounds like the autopsy is tomorrow. Expect some revelations, I guess.

Oh, okay.

Well yeah, I agree with you. Depp is a wonderful character actor and he'd probably do well as The Joker. I guess my only misgiving is that he's done so many roles like that lately...it might be a bit overkill.

I thought Heath Ledger was a very odd choice originally - I just couldn't imagine it. But after seeing the trailer, it now seems to make a whole lot more sense.

I read on an MSN article that he'd developed sleeping problems whilst playing Bob Dylan, which continued to plague him during filming for The Dark Knight. So maybe an accidental overdose, then.

It doesn't make much difference to me personally- I haven't seen that many of his films -but it is a shame to lose him.

Please don't think that all Christians are this way. >< This is a terrible tragedy and anyone who delights in it (eg. FRED FRICKIN PHELPS!) deserves the hell-fire they so eagerly prescribe to other people.

I thought Heath Ledger was a great actor and I am saddened by his sudden passing. He was at his best in the action films such as Knight's Tale or Ned Kelly, I didn't care too much for chick flicks like "10 Things..." Yet they are a testament to a great actor who never got typecast into certain roles, and who would take great risks (Brokeback Mountain) portraying characters that didn't fit some peoples vision of "your typical Heath Ledger film."

I am still looking forward to the Dark Knight, but I have to concur with James, this is going to be kinda awkward to watch, knowing it was his last film.

One sure-fire way to utterly kill a movie.

Rest in peace Heath.

Not all, but as usual there are a few that are.
This was released about an hour after the official statement of dear Heath's death. Kudos to my buddy for keeping up to date on the whole evangelists situation:

Yeah. They did.
And we will all hate them for eternity for doing it.
Not all religious people, just the nutcases that released the statement.

*sighs*

H.L will be dearly missed.
He was one of the Aussie greats, and he did many good things in the time he was with us.
Thank you Heath.
May you rest in Peace, and may those dear to you rest well knowing you do so.

I'm violently ill any time I hear the name of that heretical cult. Truly.
I'm glad the anger is directed at the nutters, and we haven't all been tarred with the same brush.

I think their post-code, which is 66604, says a lot. Fred Phelps is the Antichrist.

They better not get anywhere near Heath's send-off, that will be a sad, sad day indeed.

I'm going to tell you now, that you misread my post and seem to be operating under the delusion that I think all Christians are psychotic maniacs.

I don't. I was raised a Christian and there are plenty of em that I like. But as others have pointed out, there are always the mindless heartless bastards that think they're the favored ones and therefore capable of passing judgement on everyone else around them. Oh yes, and I think you calling attention to the completely random configuration of three 6's in the code is ridiculous. Save the conspiracy theories for when we all have our tin foil hats.

Note that I said radical Evangelical, not ALL CHRISTIANS.

Consider what I said before complaining that I'm a bigot.

Anyway, I find religious hate groups like the website indicated in the LiveJournal link deeply disturbing. To even go so far to say "nothing else about Heath Ledger is relevent or consequential" is basically saying that because he played a homosexual character in one film, that's enough to damn him for all eternity despite the entire rest of his life around that. It's quite sickening.

Quoted for truth. For any group to come out and say such horrific things when his parents haven't even had a chance to bury their son, it just sickens me. These people don't even know the meaning of the word Christian.

I'm not that familiar with the guy, but I'm sorry to hear it just the same. Just as I'm sorry to hear of all the nonsense being said about him. It's just pointless and sick on their part to be so ugly towards someone who never did anything that really affected them. So he played a homosexual character in one film. My stance on that is, so what? It doesn't define who he really was. That sort of thing, fictional or in real life doesn't in my opinion.

PWNED
... Is it bad of me to think that looked ironically funny?

I feel bad for him, though I've never been much of a fan of what I've seen of him so far. Maybe that the Batman movie will change my mind. It's tragic, though, anyhow. Must've been quite a shocker for the masseuse who found him too.

I actually just noticed how bad that the thread title looks. Let mejust say that was entirely unintentional
