Water • Earth • Fire • Air

Six hundred years ago, the Avatar, master of all four elements, simply vanished. The balance kept for generations by the Avatar, whose spirit cycled through the nations ever since people first learned the art of bending, was shattered when the Fire Nation attacked. The Air Nomads were decimated, going completely extinct, and the Earth Kingdom and Water Tribes were engulfed in war. For a hundred years, the dream of Fire Lord Sozin looked like it would come true.

But then, a hundred years after the war began, the Avatar was discovered, hibernating within a block of ice in the South Pole. Despite technically being over a hundred years old, the Avatar was revealed to be a “young” Airbender named Aang. With the help of Sokka and Katara, the two Southern Tribe children who found him, and later Toph Bei Fong, a master Earthbender, and the exiled Fire Nation prince Zuko, he mastered all four elements and defeated Fire Lord Ozai.

After the fall of the Fire Lord and his war-hungry forces at the hands of Aang and company, there were only a handful of loyalist efforts remaining, which were easily dealt with. The Avatar had brought peace to the world and restored the balance. The next obstacle that faced Aang was being the world's last Airbender, though he wouldn't be for long. His own children inherited his Airbending heritage, and there were also a few cases of children from other nations capable of Airbending. Aang lived for another century after the fall of Ozai before he passed away at the age of 212, the next Avatar being born a Waterbender. After this Avatar died another hundred years later, came the latest Avatar, Earthbender Wu Ren.

Several generations later, the Air Nomads are slowly, but surely, restoring themselves with a population of a few hundred. The four nations have enjoyed the lasting peace, and there had been no signs of that changing any time soon. Until Wu Ren was killed while in the Avatar State, breaking the cycle of the Avatar and leaving the world in shock. Fending off a violent series of earthquakes and storms while in the Avatar State, Wu Ren had all but completely stopped them when a stray bolt of lightning struck him, killing him instantly.

The immediate effect was an eerie calm, the weather calming instantly. The week following his death, all witnesses spread the news as fast as possible, the bizarrely perfect weather continuing. The peace was slowly dissolving as the tensions suppressed by the Avatar rapidly resurfaced. And as everyone suspected, the strange calm did not last for very much longer. Accompanying the returning heavy storms were evil spirits from the Spirit World, revealing that a much more terrible unbalance had resulted from the Avatar's death.

But it is not only beings from the Spirit World coming over to the Real World. In a last ditch effort to restore the balance, the Spirit World has brought over a small group of people from the Real World to stop more spirits from escaping, and possibly repair the Avatar cycle...

Nation: Swamp Nomad

What was your character doing when they heard news of Wu Ren's death?
As Louie and his three swamp land friends made their way into New Ba Sing Se he could tell by the way his Gecko Bat hid under his giant leaf hat that people were staring at them. It was alright though because Louie was completely used to it. Now that he was older he finally understood that being different from everyone else wasn't a bad thing. However he was a little surprised when he first left the swamp lands at the age of 13 only to find that not everyone hunted Hippo Fish in river boats.

The Earth Kingdom people walked about their day in long green cloaks while Louie and the Swamp Nomads toughed out the intense swamp heat in green underpants. The more he thought about it the more he started thinking it might be wise to put on at least a shirt before entering another nations city whose traditions and fashion sense were much different. However he was too proud to be a Swamp Nomad to even care.

The four swamp natives found themselves lining up for almost two hours before finally getting a chance to trade at the trading post. While the three older men squabbled and bartered with the tradesman, Louie wondered around the city, curious about other cultures.

A bunch of people gathered around a small stage in the middle of a crossroad where three fire bender performers showed off their tricks. Louie glanced upward and spoke to his pet.

"Hmm, maybe we should move to the fire nation! What do you think, Euoo?" he asked the small bat winged lizard perched on his head. It replied with a tiny screech clearly stating no. Euoo could barely stand leaving the swamp let alone leaving the entire country.

Suddenly, as if out of nowhere a pulse negative energy flowed right through Louie. Every other bender in the world felt it. And even if they didn't realize it (Louie certainly didn't), it was the world telling them something horrible had happened. The Avatar had died.

A few minutes later newspaper boys were out on the street screaming the newest headline on the Ba Sing Se paper. "Avatar Wu Ren dead in Avatar State! Read all about it!" As soon as he heard this, Louie's heart dropped. Even a simple living swamp folk like him knew what happened when an Avatar died in the Avatar state. Chaos.
Allastor stands at 6?1??, and is a thin, toned young man. His jet black hair is extraordinarily long in the back, but he keeps it in a ponytail at all times. His eyes, surprisingly for a fire-bender, are a luminescent, piercing blue color, almost white in tone (rumored to be a side-effect of his family line?s legacy of bending white flames). Three piercing line his right ear, two at top, and one in the lobe.

Dress wise, Allastor is most commonly dressed in a black, v-neck, collared t-shirt, with thick red lining (and subsequently, the collar to said shirt is always up), matching black shorts, wooden sandals, and a black head-band. Black wristbands guard both of his wrists at all time as well.

Nation: Fire
Element: Kei bends fire, and is one of the few capable of bending white flames.
Weapon: N/A

What was your character doing when they heard news of Wu Ren's death?

Carrying her favorite Koala Sheep underneath one arm, the half year old Junko, Kei ran along the cliff-lined coast of her island home. Her older sister, Song, was having her fiancé over for dinner tonight, and she never was one to enjoy participating in the pleasantries and annoying pre-meal chatter. All that stuff was pointless, anyway. Instead, she headed towards a spot she had found on her family's small island that gave her a clear view of the vicious storm the Avatar was currently fighting. It was about a day or two away, but her parents seemed confident that it wouldn't reach them.

?Besides, our farm, our Koala Sheep and our family have lived through worse than a thunderstorm,? she mumbled in a deep voice, repeating her father's words in a mocking tone.

Skidding to a halt, Kei took a seat on one of the large rocks resting on the particular hill she had arrived at. Placing Junko on the fresh grass below, she listened to him eat as she watched the dark clouds along the horizon change shape and size as Avatar Wu Ren fought against nature. Despite the distance between her and the Earth Kingdom native, she could clearly spot his silhouette against the foreboding clouds as he was currently in the Avatar State.

The gentle ocean breeze blew her braids around behind her as she sat in silent awe. After a while, she leapt to her feet and began to mimic the forms she figured he would be using, though from her feet and fists she produced white flames instead of bursts of powerful air. After a while, she began to fall into her own practiced forms rather than her mock-Avatar positions, no longer using the basic techniques her father had taught her when she was little.

?I could take on the Avatar!? she cried boastfully, thrusting her fists forward as she spun around fluidly, the large burst of flames she manifested instantly warming the area several degrees from its intense heat.

Several bright flashes of lightning in the distance caught her attention and she clumsily fell off the rock as she stopped mid-motion, nearly landing on Junko. The baby Koala Sheep let out a startled cry and skittered away to continue eating in peace. Startled by how bright the lightning was, particularly at this distance, she suddenly felt herself going white as one of the bolts went directly through the glowing form of Avatar Wu Ren. The sight of the flickering glow against the dark clouds as he fell towards the mainland below left her with a very confused feeling.

?That... didn't just happen... H-He's okay... He has to...? she mumbled to herself, trailing off as the glowing disappeared completely and Avatar Wu Ren was no longer in the air. Eyes wide from her growing anxiousness, Kei watched as the dark clouds seemed to disappear within an instant, followed by a powerful gust of wind blowing her backwards into the rock she had been perched upon previously. Everything fell silent, even the gentle breeze now gone. Afraid and unsure of what she had just witnessed, in one swift motion she returned to her feet, grabbed Junko and was sprinting back towards her family's large farmhouse.

She burst through the kitchen doors, uncharacteristically panicked and loud. Her sister, just outside the kitchen, dismissed the sound as her sister being her usual clumsy self, while her parents did not hear her entrance at all. Only Song's fiancé, a young business man who had previously introduced himself to Kei as Meng, was in the kitchen when she arrived. He noted her frightened expression and placed his hands on her shoulders in an attempt to calm her, calling for his wife-to-be before asking her what was wrong. Though he was kneeling right in front of her, her eyes would not meet his.

?I t-think... I think he's dead,? she whispered in a meek voice the young man had never heard her use before. The few times she had met the girl, she was a spirited, friendly girl, if a bit rude at times, and she always spoke with a loud voice filled with self-confidence.

?Who's dead, Kei? Who?? Meng asked her as Song appeared behind him. Upon seeing her sister's expression, Song summoned their parents into the kitchen as well. Eyes snapping to meet the pair before her, Kei swallowed before answering in a voice that was foreign to her.

?The Avatar. The storm killed him, and... I saw it.?
Liir took his time walking down the path, he was never in a hurry to go anywhere. The fact that his first ever task as a Water Tribe warrior was to be a messenger to the Prince of the Northern Water Tribe less than excited him. Taking a love note to the Princes love interest in the Fire Nation didn't exactly seem like the excitement he was expecting from the job.

He turned the final bend in the path to the small village he was looking for. The storm he could see from the shore had now started to disperse in the distance. This was a good sign he thought. He entered the village to see it was nearly empty. All the people were crowding around a stature near the center of the village. Thinking that would be the best place to find the recipient of the letter he headed there.

It was a medium sized statue, obviously the previous Avatar from the Fire Nation. The villagers had lit incense all around the statue and all of them were praying and seemed a bit disoriented.

"Show some respect boy!" Liir was wrapped on the back of his legs by a wooden cane, sending him crashing to his knees. "The Avatar deserves respect on this, the day of his death." A crotchety old man stood behind Liir with a rather displeased look on his face.

"What?" Liir blurted shooting up. "When did this happen?"

"He died in the storm," He said japping his cane at the sky. "In the Avatar state..." He pause and turned away for a moment and then turned back around. "The Avatar chain is broken." Liir sat silent as the old man hobbled off. The chain couldn't be broken. It just cant be, thats all he could think. He then turned and bowed to the statue and started praying, not only for the avatar but for the hope that the world won't fall apart without one.

Name: Tso Amaya (last name, first name)
Age: 14
Gender: Female
Appearance: Amaya stands at a mere 4’10” short, and is quick to remind you to never poke fun at her height. What you see in the photo is mainly what you get, only sans the sword. She wears a pair of dark brown, leather boots that are supposed to be up to her knees, but go just past her knees. She wears a matching leather on her forearms. Amaya is almost always wearing her raven cloak made from boarson (boar/bison..ugly creatures) wool. It is bristly and coarse, giving her a waterproof cloak during the rain storms. The inside is lined with the finest pelt from the koala sheep, giving her cozy warmth.

Nation: Earth
Element: Earth
Weapon: Amaya tries never resorts to using a weapon; she does enough damage with her Earth bending. However, for those “just in case” moments, she does keep a few small daggers on her person.

What was your character doing when they heard news of Wu Ren's death?

“Amaya! Come up, my darling!” her mother called from the top of the crest.

The strong wind whistled down the walls of the canyon. She was sitting in her “secret” nook she carved into the face of the canyon wall. Her mother’s voice echoed for miles, weakening as the restless wind carried it away.

“Amaya!”

Her eye twitched, her meditation slipping from her grips. Giving up, Amaya groaned, slamming her palm on the earth beneath her. The ground rumbled and cracked, and like a solid magic carpet, the earth moved from the wall and carried the young earth bender up towards the crest. Amaya’s mother stood, arms folded and her foot tapping.

“I was meditating, and you disturbed me. So it should be me who is irritated,” Amaya jumped from her rock carpet and onto the grass beside her mother. A flick of her wrist, and she sent the stone sailing to the canyon floor hundreds of feet below. The crash and crumbling barely audible.

“Did you see anything in your ‘deep’ meditation?” her mother spat at her daughter’s poor attitude.

“I would have.”

“Well, if you did, you’d have realized I was calling you in for supper for quite some time. My goodness, you can be just like your great ancestor,” her mother stomped towards the house, “And where are your boots? You’ll catch a cold.”

Rolling her eyes, Amaya tightened her cloak around her neck. The wind was getting stronger, and colder. A storm was coming soon, Amaya thought as she looked towards the darkening horizon. She wondered why she couldn’t concentrate on meditating. Normally, Amaya was patient and calm; but not today. Something unsettling in the earth beneath her bare feet.

Then, as quickly as she could blink, a wave of stinging, burning sensation swept over her entire body. Crippling, freezing and hot at the same time, the sensation sent Amaya to her hands and knees. And just as soon as it had hit her, the feeling disappeared. She stood, shakily, looking towards the house, seeing a figure emerging from afar on their road. The figure was coming fast and on the back of boarson. It was her father.

“Quick!! Amaya, Taruna! Quickly, terrible news!!” he shouted, leaping off of the giant creature and sprinted.

“What is it, Miki?” Taruna, Amaya’s mother, met him.

"The Avatar..." Amaya whispered.

“The Avatar Wu Ren has died!!”

A tear rolled down Amaya's cold cheek. Her feet tingled; the earth was going crazy.
Sorry it took so long, I wanted to see all the episodes of the show before writing the sign up.

Name: Bai Hu
Age: 42
Gender: Male
Appearance: Bai Hu as obvious from his physical appearance is an intimidating man, at just over six feet in height, his muscular build is far more akin to an Earthbender than a Firebender. Bai has an almost perpetual look of thought on his face, which goes unbroken even in the heat of battle.

Nation: N/A
Element: Fire
Weapon: Firebending Master.

What was your character doing when they heard news of Wu Ren's death?

Bai watched disinterestedly as the group of bounty hunters drew closer to his table. Slowly swallowing the remainder of his jasmine tea, he placed the fragile china cup back down onto the table before locking eyes with the leader.

"Please withdraw from here. I have no interest in fighting you."

Dishevelled and reeking of cheap alcohol, the man merely spat on the carpet between them and smirked, revealing a set of badly rotten teeth.

"'Fraid I can't do that Hu, price on your head is just too damn high, and I aim to collect it."

It was obvious a fight was going to break out, such a shame really, the tea shop would likely be damaged extensively and he had found it to be a very relaxing place. The owner was looking over at Bai in a pleading manner, obviously thinking exactly the same thing. Sighing, he pushed himself out of the seat and motioned to the leader.

"As I said, I have no interest in fighting you. However, if you wish to try and capture me, I will not allow it to occur here. I will meet you all outside in a moment after paying for my tea."

Removing several coins from his jacket, Bai walked calmly towards the owner. The old man he'd learned had operated the tea shop for the last sixty years, apparently the Jasmine Dragon had been in operation for over two centuries at this point, he would not allow it to be ruined by these ruffians. Dropping the currency onto the counter, he bowed while smiling politely.

"Thank you for the tea. It really is the best in Ba Sing Se."

"QUIT SCREWING AROUND !!!"

The blow came roughly and not unexpectedly, ducking slightly, Bai lashed out a kick to knock the offender hunter off his feet and to the ground. He sighed again more loudly this time, some people just had no manners at all. Leaning down, he struck the man hard in the face knocking him unconscious.

"It seems bounty hunters have no honour at all."

"LEE !!!"

"I'd ask you all to withdraw, but I already know it's not going to happen. Please do not attempt to attack me again until we are outside."

He smiled slightly as the two individuals blocking the doorway moved to allow him passage, at least they had some semblance of sense. The street outside was mostly deserted, the evening sun barely visibly above the great city walls and the thunderstorm in the sky. There was a brain in the group somewhere if they chose to attack him as his power began to wane, it was only a pity they badly over-estimated the effect of sundown on a firebending master.

The leader withdraw a badly notched katana, just looking at it was enough to tell Bai it was old, something he'd probably stolen and never taken care of.

"Now we're gonna getcha Hu. Nowhere to run."

"I am no intention of running from you. You are not that great a threat."

Inhaling deeply though his nose, Bai moved his arms in a circular pattern, any seasoned bounty hunter, or at least one who had bothered to do research the target would have some idea of what was going to happen, but from the blank looks on their faces, the group was made up of complete novices, they wouldn't even have time to react. As the lightning shot from his finger-tips, Bai watched with some amusement as comprehension broke across the leader's face just as he slammed into a nearby water trough. The remaining hunters simply dropped their weapons and ran for what they assumed to be their lives.

"Pathetic." Bai murmured in disgust.

Brushing down his clothes, he re-entered the Jasmine Dragon, noting the expression of shock on the old man's weathered face.

"You're alright ?"

"Yes."

"Another tea ?"

"Thank you."

The renewed peace was broken as a small child burst through the doorway soaked to the skin, he was gripping an equally wet sheet of paper with large print across the front of it.

"GRANDPA ! GRANDPA !"

"Chan ? What's going on ?"

"It's the Avatar grandpa, he's been killed in the Avatar state !!"

"What ?! Chan, please, show me the newspaper."

"By the Great Wall, he's right..."

Suddenly the thunderstorm made a lot more sense...
Nation: Here's a strange one. Previously fire nation, now a dweller of the spirit world. Acts as a guide and counselor to outsiders. He's lived there, ageless, for over 200 years, since Avatar Roku died.
Element: Firebending master, though he avoids bending if possible. He has a few tricks up his sleeve, and mostly relies on martial arts.
Weapon: Any and everything he can get his hands on, but he doesn't carry any with him.

What was your character doing when they heard news of Wu Ren's death?

Laying on his back, arms behind his head, Shin dozed peacefully on a hillside.

"Now this is the life," he said, letting out a deep breath. "The weather hasn't been this nice in over fifty years. Nothing like a little peace and quiet to -"

Shin stopped, a sudden beating of wings silencing him. He glanced up at the sky. Thousands of shrieking birds wheeled over head.

"This isn't normal," he muttered, worriedly. Rushing to the hilltop, Shin turned circles, animal calls echoing from the forest.

"It's like they're expecting something to die, and they'll soon be able to devour the corpse."

Lightning burst from the sky, scourching a distant mountainside. Fist-sized hail pelted the ground, while winds exceeding 200 km/hr threatened to lift him off his feet. Fire shooting from beneath him, Shin propelled himself toward shelter.

"What's going on? Why would this be - ?"

And then it stopped. No wind. No birds. Nothing.

Shin stepped away from the forest.

"No," he let out, staring at the clearing. "This can't be happening."

In the middle of the rolling hills, where for thousands of years the indomitable Avatar monument stood untouched by man or beast, a physical representation of his unending role as peacekeeper, a deep depression marked the surface of the earth.

The monument was gone. The Avatar was dead.

The dark haired boy walked through the rocklands which were outside Ba Sing Se. The weather was fine today, unlike it was for the past few days. It was odd, sudden thunder storms and clouds and then peaceful tranquility. The care-free boy shrugged it off and didn't think about it. His dark black-blue hair popped back as his head tilted up to look at the cloudless sky.

"Meh."

He slipped his hands into his dark jeans as he proceeded farther away from the town. Then randomly, he sat, right there, right on the ground. In the middle of no where he decided to sit down.

"Life sure is boring now adays."

He laid down looking up at the sky. The light blue sky with the sun hanging in it. Time seemed to stop as the breeze passed by and the sun moved ever so slightly towards the east. The boy was so entranced he didn't notice the oncoming footsteps of three men. One carried a giant pack on his back while wearing a traditional bamboo hat. He looked maybe thirty, and as if he wasn't being paid enough to do whatever he was employed to do. The next held a sword at his side and was mid-twenties, thirty at the most. And the last was a giant, standing probably six feet three inches.

"Kid, get up, we're takin' yer money."

The boy on the ground looked over to see the one handling the pack speak to him. The man held an accent of a local thug. But, the boy did not move, instead, he turned his head back up to the sky. He saw a whirr from the corner of his eye in time to bring up a small rock platform to block the kick aimed to his head.

The man reared back in pain and the other two moved in to attack him. He toppled down the swordsman by bringing both his hands forward. The Earth literally tore up in an odd direction, hammering the man bluntly in the stomach.

He turned to look at the incoming giant. The giant's fist was met by the side of the boy's forearm, which proceeded to the boy's otherr forearm hammering into the man's collarbone. He dropped like a rock.

And soon, the third of them came rushing at him. He grabbed the man's arm and foot swept him with the help of Earthbending. He chucked the man to the ground and he instantly fell unconcious. And the wind was back. With it, it brought a small flyer from a news paper. He caught it, while standing calmly in the middle of the three bodies.

Unphased by the news, the carefree boy took his eyes from the paper to look forward.

"What now?"
