Shy
If there are any issues with my sign-up let me know. I had hoped to catch James or Indi online before I started writing my sign-up, but once I got started I kind of got carried away. For the record: Edward Kundi, Terra Prime and Arthur don't know anything specific about the cause of the Great Disaster, but merely see some sort of connection between it and space travel. They mean well in their mission to prevent another Great Disaster from happening, but will not let the loss of a few lives get in the way. -Shy
Aberinkula
I hope my sign-up is okay. I decided to use a real person (Christina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil) to make my Sign-up more realistic. If there is any problem let me know, but I think i did a pretty good job making my characer. I made it so she can be childsh with mature problems, I did it to make the adventure different for her and so she can grow into a more adult person. So when something that needs an adult choice comes up she might make the wrong decision. I just wanted to know if that's fine. EDIT: Is it alright if I add a quick bio of Jonathan onto my sign-up? It'll just be something quick so you know what he looks like. But only if it's okay with you guys.
James
The sign ups look good so far. And yes, you can add details for NPCs if you like.. although your sign ups will really be judged based on your own character specifically. Great work guys! :catgirl: I can already see some potentially awesome Dossier files coming out of the info posted so far.
Sabrina
I hope that worked for a sign up, I made the picture I had black and white, I just hope it's retro enough to fit what you have in mind. XP Also, I figured that there would be tickets issued to cooperations like Ivan Enterprises that had a part in supplying the necessary materials for even building the ship. o_O At least that seemed like a good idea when I did the sign up. If you want me to alter that a bit, just let me know. :catgirl:
James
Yeah that looks fine. I imagine that there would be many materials suppliers involved with the project, although they would probably only handle their specific designs (i.e. they wouldn't know a great deal about the overall design). Also I forgot to mention earlier, with regard to press... press passes will not grant access to all ares of the ship by any means. The lowest deck is off-limits to all passengers and crew (including, quite possibly, the Captain himself). If you guys want to come up with venues as well, I'm going to add a file to the Dossier about them. I'm already thinking of naming several bars, clubs and so on which we'll be able to refer to in the RPG.

It would have been more of a case of Ivan merely supplying what was listed as being needed, at least for those things they actually manufacture. I imagine that the actual ship design was and still is a very well guarded secret, we do have that mysterious deck that is off limits after all. :p
Raiha
Since I didn't really describe my lounge, I'm going to blatantly rip off the one I've spent some time in and enjoyed immensely. Only it's IN SPACE! Kimera Lounge: Rather enforced dress code: smart casual to formal. Full service bar: specializing in designer martinis. Live music: Yes. Oh yes, I appear to have mentioned to Crystia and not you that she'll be singing in whichever bar she's assigned to. I figure her contract is probably more flexible than most, if only for efficacy and whatnot.
James
Looks good. I'm also going to include a bar in the Von Braun called Der Raum, which is a real bar here in Melbourne (and was recently voted the 4th greatest bar in the world :D). My character may work in that bar. I have yet to decide.
Aberinkula
So will the Von Braun be like a small town? Some very fun and pleasureful places. Some very rich and uptight places with a strict dress code? You know, stuff like that. I mean, I don't think the Von Braun is some kind of gigantic rich place with no parties lol. Also, I was wondering if they're could be a music stage or something where our characters could sing-up to sing, like a karaoke bar? Because some of the people on Von Braun are surely artists.
James
The Von Braun is like a city. You could almost say that each level on the ship contains several districts. The entertainment areas that first class passengers enjoy are notably different from what second class passengers visit. And, as mentioned, there will be some more "underground" venues (like casinos, cheaper bars, etc). So yeah, in short, the ship will play host to a wide variety of venues. You can feel free to play as someone who works in a venue (or even as a venue owner). And I imagine there would be several stages for live performance.
Vicky
What Officer positions are there on the ship? Or should we just make our own up? (I bet this has already been stated somewhere and I've missed it XD )

(I bet this has already been stated somewhere and I've missed it XD )
Aside from what's already been posted in the sign ups. The only ones that are closed to players is that of the Captain of the ship and the example one in James' first post. Beyond that you're free to make things up, just as Malkav posted to be Chief of Security, and inwardscream posted to be the lead medical officer. So you can create just about anything you want. You might want to keep in mind what others have already signed up for since obviously there's only going to be one Chief of Security, but that doesn't mean you couldn't be the Chief of Engineering or even the Captain's second in command. Sandy
A (real) question: would it be okay for me to play as a tour guide of sorts? Or perhaps one of the "ship hostesses", who'd be part of the crew but in charge of introducing the passengers to all the things the ship has to offer? Would that role demand something special from me? It would at least give my character a motive to familiarize herself with any character necessary. Possible positions could be in food, housekeeping and entertainment. Someone who gave tours of the ship would be one possible reason for someone being on board in that capacity. So if you want to play someone who conducts tours of the ship during the voyage, go right ahead. James and I already talked about the option of people getting tours of say the bridge since normally they would not be allowed access to it. James
Sounds good to me. Unfortunately my character will soon discover that in addition to sleeping in a tiny room, he will also be paid next to nothing. So he may not be able to afford to entertain himself in the nicer places. :catgirl: Oh and regarding officer positions, please feel free to write whatever interests you. If there's something I need you to change or modify, I will let you know. Most things should be fine, however.

Malkav
Ok, this is going to sound kind of nitpicky but can we have a better explanation of the organization NARSIA? After reading Aaryanna's post and seeing how her character wanted to go to the NARSIA academy, I couldn't help but wonder exactly what kind of Agency it was. I thought it was modelled after the CIA, NSA, and Secret Service, i.e there isn't really an academy. Also seeing as it has a Director rather than a CEO, I also assumed that it was part of the government. The only reason I brought it up is once again Aaryanna mentioned an academy and in my post my character just took a job there. Sorry again if this is nitpicking. Changed my character portrait to something a little more detailed.
James
NARSIA will be detailed in a Dossier file soon. For now though, I can point out that it's an absolutely massive organization with many, many internal divisions. NARSIA handles all policing, intelligence and judicial issues. It would basically have an internal division dedicated to each area. So it's entirely possible (and probable) that there would be a NARSIA academy of some sort. It should be pointed out, though, that NARSIA is a less-than-benevolent organization much of the time. I'm sure that many of its most junior recruits are wide-eyed and idealistic, but yeah... it doesn't have the best reputation. Many citizens are somewhat skeptical of it.

I was going on the information in the example sign up, the one about Samantha A Wells who literally outranks the Chief of security on the Von Braun. So I figured something with that kind of authority was more than just some simple organization. Also, my character is still a teenager, so I figured that there is some sort of training academy much like there is for other organizations. It could even be one huge academy and she's simply specializing in preparing to gain entry into NARSIA instead of other areas of government or military. *shrug* Your character is one who's an adult and has spent decades serving in something that is probably very similar so you'd probably just get a quick course instead of needing full training like some wide eyed kid who knows nothing. James
It's all good. Aaryanna's sign-up incorporates the right amount of info and I am happy with everything so far. Although the upper echeons of NARSIA might be questionable (or, should I say, the general citizenry are somewhat suspicious of the organization), this doesn't mean it's actually "evil" or anything like that. I am sure that the general police officers on the street, or those in the military are a) doing the right thing and b) unaware of any negative goings on. It's more a question of the institutional stuff that won't be a concern to most players at this point.

James
Thanks for all your sign ups so far guys. I will likely be closing the Auditions thread next week sometime. I will be in the middle of moving house this weekend, so with any luck I won't lose the internet for too long (at least I'll be able to access it away from home). So there's probably another week or week and a half left to finalise sign ups and such. Should give everyone plenty of time if anyone is still deciding on characters and stuff. Edit: And no, sign ups are not closed or anything at this point. You've still got another week or so to sign up.
Ellerby
Are cigarettes allowed to be smoked anywhere on the ship? Because my character is Dutch (he's actually based on my Opa, same name and everything, who I never got the chance to meet) and I'd like him to be able to-- actually I'll leave that as a surprise. My question stands, though.
