They Should Bring Back...

What old school games or franchises do you wish they'd bring back or remake? What older games do you think deserves a sequel?

For me its...

Jet Moto: one of my favorite PlayStation titles, I had every game in the series at one point. I loved it. Hoverbike racing through the desert river valleys and canyons? Hook-turns off of waterfalls? That was a great time, even on a PS1. Imagine what they could do on current consoles? The graphics update and physics would be amazing and I'd definetly buy it.

SSX Tricky/SSX3: Needs to be re-done on the PS3 and X-Box 360, or atleast given a sequel in the same style. The best extreme sports games ever. Easily one of my favorites of all time, I enjoy the over the top style more so than even Tony Hawk's games. It was just so much fun, and bright. Every time you landed a trick you felt like you were freaking amazing, and catching those high flying half-pipe combos with your special going and fireworks in the air while blaring Felix Tha Housecat as Viggo wearing a bikini bottom and fedora is an unforgettable gaming experience. I want to relive that so bad. I'm aware of Blur, but it definetly can't provide the same experience as Tricky or SSX3.

Def Jam: Fight For NY: They did a newer X-Box 360 game with the Def Jam name, but that travesty held no comparison to the Fight for NY game. Easily the best wrestling-style/brawling game around. If they did an MMA game, it should be something like this. Its my third favorite fighting game ever behind Soul Calibur and Tekken, and for good reason. It's just such a great game, and I've only been beaten in it once by one guy. The fighting style fusion system and character creation were amazing, and the clothing was actually cool, unlike almost every other wrestling/fighting game around with the same feature. They need to bring this back, and give it a sequel.

What about you? Does anyone agree with me?

Here is what I want as a sequel or a remake of an old game:

The Legend of Dragoon: This game should be a sequel on the PS3 and Xbox 360, with using the Unreal Engine to make it look good. Gameplay on this game should kinda be the same but with different changes toward them like more button pressing with different style, but the way they did with the button pressing is still fun even till today. The music in this game will have kinda like a jpop or rock music so that it sounds awesome. The character in this game are back, with new looks, new heros and villian, plus there are new city to explore and dungeons to explore also, and new bosses to fight since the first game. Overall, I'd say this game should get a sequel because I know that people play this game and probrably want a sequel to this game also. I'm a huge fan of the game and I am hopefully to hear a sequel to the game soon if someone decide to give it a sequel.

The very first game that comes to mind for me is Uniracers. It was a racing game made by Nintendo for SNES a while back. Up to two players could play and it was a very fast-paced side scrolling race with up to 8 (?) other unicycles. This game was a lot of fun. It was basically like Sonic except your were racing other people as opposed to just going really fast through a level.

The level designs weren't amazing but they kept you on your toes every time. There were loops and oil spills to catch you off guard. Also, it's interesting to note that as you were going off ramps you could press certain buttons to do different tricks which would (depending on the mode you were in) either give you a boost (Mario Kart Wii?) and/or grant you points.

It'd be really easy to make a sequel to this game. Nintendo already owns the license and I think the DS with its stylus control would fit this very well. I can only begin to imagine the magic Nintendo could create.

If you have a SNES emulator, download it (although its not quite as fun without a controller) and if you own a SNES try and find it. Its worth the trouble.

EDIT: I did a little research and apparently the game was made by Rockstar North (who was called DMA Design Limited at the time) which is owned by Take-Two Interactive. Still, a sequel is just as likely. :D

As a side note, Jet Moto got more than one sequel. I think it went as far as 3. It was wicked fun. Few people know the shortcut that I know through the swamp level (psst, it's in the House, gun for the door and boost)

As far as games that deserve sequels, the first one that comes to mind for me would be Saturday Night Slammasters. I played this just last night and I think a new remake or sequel is highly deserved. This game is just wicked fun. For those who played Final Fight, this is where Haggar came from ;)

I'd also like to see another Viewtiful Joe game, but Clover was disbanded :animesigh:

This topic is very interesting, as there are many games that I would love to come back that probably never will. Some of the games I'm about to mention may have sequels, but I'll explain individually:

Another great Lunar RPG: I have no idea what is going on with Working Designs right now, or if they're even still a company, but it would be awesome if a new Lunar rpg was made for either the PS3, Xbox360, or hell, even the Wii. I know that there was a game made for the Nintendo DS called Lunar: Dragon Song, but at the time I did not own a DS and it seemed from what I read that it didn't really have much to do with the older games anyway. Maybe someone can fill me in?

An actual good Crash Bandicoot platformer: Oh man ... the Crash Bandicoot games were definitely some of my favorite ways to waste the day away wen I was younger, but lately all of these new Crash Bandicoot reiterations are horrible excuses for the original games. It's obvious that a lot of the platforming spotlight was stolen by Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank, made by the same company that Crash was once the star of. Some of this information is probably wrong, but the major point I'm trying to get across is that I'm a sucker for nostalgia, so a new Crash game would definitely wet my whistle.

YES!

Why wasn't this fighting systme done for ICON? I hated ICON oh so much FFNY had an excellent fighting system and the interaction with the enviroment was incredible. I loved it's Fight Club vibe. The story was also great and it had a lot of depth.Specials and subway fights were great. Managing a label and using an analog stick to fight using a turntable sucked. I reallly hope the next Defjam game is done like FFNY or even Vendettta.
The Legend of Dragoon[/B']:
Hooray for you, my friend. I wanted that game since it released in 2001, and I just grabbed it this winter.

Vigilante 8 ? best car game ever, in my opinion. No real racing involved; just driving around, blowing the ever-lovin' snot out of everybody else with whatever you can get your hands on.

The really bad disco-style music and the mutilated car names made the game even more fun?El Guerrero for El Camino; Palomino for Mustang; etc.?but yeah, driving around blasting other cars into molten metal was amazing fun. Remake for Microsoft, I think, or Sony, since the Wii just doesn't seem like it'd gel with the control system. (Plus the PS3 graphics would be killer.)

I have no interest in buying a PS3 or Xbox360 but if they made a new Lunar game for it... I'd end up buying the system just so I could play the game. XP

Also, the game Lunar: Dragon Song, though interesting, didn't really live up to the name. There is another one for gameboy advance called Lunar Legend. It's just another version of Lunar Silver Star Story, but the small variations in the storyline make it fun to play. :catgirl: Plus you can get a used one through a seller at Amazon for about $10. If you really like the game, it's worth getting.

Golden Sun should be given a sequel. So many questions left unanswered, a great storyline, good plot and characters, beautiful landscapes. It's great and I shun those who have never played it. Either way, rumors of a DS sequel ran high for a while and there just now springing back up. Camelot should do it.

Fire Emblem 6 I only just recently beat it on an emulator and I think it should be remade. Roy fans have probably already played through the english translated version of the game but I think they should remake it for DS or Wii. If not then translate it and put it on Virtual Console.

Which is why I stated that I owned every sequel, haha. There were three, by the way.

But definetly needs to be redone. The action of that game is just awesome, and I don't think any other game could provide the same experience, not even WaveRacer (which also probably could use another awesome title, because I loved that game also... who remembers that?).

I also agree with the Lunar statement, but Lunar 2: Eternal Blue sticks out in memory for me.

Another game that I loved, which I'm sure atleast a few people remember, is Monster Rancher. I owned the second one, and never got ahold of the third, but I loved the second one. Awesome game and fun concept. I actually got emotional when my monsters died of old age. It was like Pokemon meets Horse-Breeding. Good times.

Vampire Nights. I dunno if anyone remembers this Namco light gun game on the PS2 (and yes, I love light gun games), but it was a vampire-horror theme game where you (and a friend) acted as a duo of vampire slayers who go into a city (country maybe?) that's been decimated and conquered by a group of vampires. The boss battles were fun, the designs were cool, and the game was pretty fun. I think if they added a Time Crisis ducking feature and lenghtened the game, it'd be awesome. It'd work very, very well on the Wii, being that it doesn't even need a light-gun attachment. BTW- Duel-Wielding light guns was one of the best parts of the game. They should bring that back.

Wow, I can't believe that I never even thought of the Golden Sun series. It was definitely one of my favorite RPG series on the GBA, not that that's saying much, but in all seriousness a sequel on the DS would be sweet.

Oh, and to SunfallE, I actually do have the remake of Lunar for the GBA and I thought that it was very nicely done. It would be pretty cool if they remade Lunar 2 for the DS with extra content. I know I'd sucker in the money for it.

You are keeping in mind Golden Sun 2: The Lost Age, right? It's been forever since I played it, so I don't remember all of it, or if it closed up the loose ends or not.

It tied up some of the loose ends but not all of them. There are still some questions left unanswered (especially concerning Alex). It also gave us new questions to ponder. Such great games, though. They were like a mix between Zelda and FF which is a magical combination.

I also agree with Monster Rancher. The thing I loved about those games was that you could put in different CDs (I'm talking the PS games here, not handheld) and get different monsters. Such a neat idea.

Agreed, and I meant the series as a whole getting a sequel.

I just adore the Lunar series, as if my signature didn't give that away on some level since I used characters from each game for a banner for a different rpg. Heh.

I'd also love to see a remake of some older classics like Secret of Evermore or Illusion of Gaia. I still have those games and even pull them out to play from time to time. I'd even be satisfied with a version for the DS though I'd prefer something more substantial of course.

Illusion of Gaia.
Oh! That's the one with the boy who transforms into other types of warriors right? One with long blonde hair and the other a type of energy being. He has a flute he plays melodies on to unlock parts of the dungeons if I remember correctly. If I have the game right, my brother has it, along with his older SNES system. I never finished it, but the game was fun! I would like to see a remake of that or a sequel too. Though knowing my luck, they'd do it for a system that I don't have. XP

Other things that I'd like to see have already been mentioned. :catgirl:

I too want to see a second sequel to Golden Sun, since Lost Age ended in an interesting cliffhanger. I've actually never played the first part, though. In any case Lost Age had a very interesting gameplay, the use of magic outside of battle in puzzle-solving hasn't been done in very many RPGs surprisingly, and the puzzles in the game were really fun, challenging and diverse.

The story itself and the fleshing out of the characters could've used some more work, but they were sweet and true to the genre.

Another sequel I want to see is the third part of the Longest Journey. Dreamfall, the first sequel, was a bit of a letdown since it steered away from the adventure genre, but I enjoyed it's visual look and funny characters nevertheless. Now Ragnar Tornqvist has announced that a conclusion to the series is being planned, but that was like three years ago. I'd like some confirmation by now!

Hand the rights over to Namco and you'd have an absolutely glorious fighting game as well as some cameos of Tekken and Soul Calibur characters for sure.

Ironically I just got a copy of the soundtrack to that game. Listening to it is making me want to replay it as well as wish they would do a remake of it. I just wish they would stop putting re-makes on a hand held system. I so prefer a larger screen over the tiny one of the DS. XP

And since I'm in here yet again I wouldn't mind seeing a re-make of Quest 64. The idea had merit but they didn't really go very far with it in my opinion. It's something that if fleshed out could potentially be a lot more fun. I enjoyed it for a once through but that was about it since the story was kind of non-existent. It's like they got half way done producing it and just skipped straight to production instead of giving it any real depth. So I'd be curious to see it in a more developed format since I did like the basic idea.

I suppose the multiplayer segment of the Jedi Knight series would the the closest Teräs Käsi ever got to a sequel. That said, depending on how good/bad/mediocre Force Unleashed turns out to be, it could happen, as you said Joe, if Namco were brought on-board by LucasArts to create a fighting game for Star Wars, it would probably be awesome, at least, as long as LA don't rush the game like they did with KOTOR2.

With the 3DS bringing back some oldies, now seems like a good time to revive this thread. Seeing how Metal Gear Solid 3, Star Fox and Zelda all look colorful on this little thingamabob, I'd like to see Chrono Trigger and both Final Fantasy 7 and 8 be done on it. I don't know if you can get any more color out of Chrono Trigger seeing that it's full of life, but if there's a chance it can be done then I'd like to see it brought back. Final Fantasy 7 needs to do away with the lego/blocky look. I'd really get more enjoyment out of it then. And FF8, just because.... lol.

I can think of two games right away: Pilotwings and Blast Corps. The former is being made for 3DS, although I'm not sure how much variety it will include. I do hope it's as big or bigger than, say, Pilotwings 64.

Ideally, though, I'd love to see a brand new Pilotwings game for Wii. Think of that huge island (I forget the name) where you could just fly around as the Birdman. If you increase the size of that island by two or three fold and add a few different things to do, I think it would be a lot of fun. You could even incorporate online multiplayer into the mix.

I'd also really, really love to see a new Blast Corps. It was one of my favourite Ninteno 64 games and I think it could be really spectacular on a newer console. I'm not sure who owns the rights to it (given that it was developed by Rare), but I'd love to see it on any console. Although, it could look particularly beautiful on the Xbox 360 - with those giant explosions and physics and stuff.
