Alright, somebody had to start a topic on this one.

I went to see this with my gf and a friend last night, and I have to say, it was awesome. The casting was perfect (Robert Downey Jr. was absolutely brilliant), and it had a pretty good soundtrack too. I thought the story was pretty good, but not knowing much about the comic, I can't say how faithfully it represented the comics (although I've heard it was very good, including from the friend I went to see it with). Of course, the special effects were top-notch, and some of the one-liners were just great.

If you haven't seen it yet, you need to. And stay after the credits. Trust me, it's worth it. If you're going to see it again, and didn't stay, stay. If you've seen it, and don't plan on going again, I ask you....WHY NOT?

I'm going to see it this week so that'll be fun. Apparently it had the 2nd biggest opening weekend of all time for a movie that's not a sequel. Which I can believe because I work at a movie theatre and it was ridiculously busy at all times (even during down time).

Saw it last night with my brother and father, and I have to say, it was just awesome, probably my favourite superhero movie so far. Downey was just excellent in the role, as were Paltrow, Howard and Bridges, in fact,
seeing as I wasn't familiar with the character Stane, I thought Bridges gave an exceptional "good guy" performance before the big revelation.
I think my favourite parts to the film were actually the more light-hearted moments, or any of JARVIS's lines. They oddly gave a greater sense of realism, at least for me.

Quoted for truth, I can't say how annoyed I was I had to go onto Youtube afterwards to see what I missed, especially seeing how awesome the after credits clip was.

Oh, I agree entirely. The 'chemistry' between Stark and JARVIS was great. I particularly like one of the lines in the final battle, though I'm not sure why.
JARVIS: It appears that his suit can fly as well, sir.
Stark (in a rather exasperated, obviously tired voice): Duly noted. Now FLY!
That's probably paraphrased a bit, but I was never very good at nabbing exact quotes from movies.

Well, man, I was all excited about seeing this because I thought it'd be epically bad, but now I'm seriously getting excited about watching it (hopefully sometime this week). Will be interesting to see how my somewhat reluctant friends react...

As the OB's resident comic book fan {Hellboy, Watchman, Ultimate Spiderma, Ultimate X-Men, Ultimate Fantastic Four, The Ultimates 1 and 2, Ultimate Iron Man 1 and 2, Runaways, Witchblade, The Darkness, Miracleman, and The Sandman are all in my collection}, I have to say this is the second best comic book movie ever. The only thing better you will find is Batman Begins.

There are so many high points of this movie, it will take a great effort for me to just list them all. The point of the matter is, this is one of the best comic book movies you will likely see. The only true fault is that it is too short (and yes, two and a half hours is too short for a movie as amazing as this).

For a comic book movie, I have to concur with Matt's review. Outstanding, up there with X2, Batman Begins, and the better examples of the genre. Robert Downey Jr. nails the dry wit I imagined Stark would possess. The film makes the source material its own and takes some artistic liberties. For instance, I felt that the origin story explaining Iron Man's creation might be a sort of make-it-break-it point for comic book fans. It remains contemporaneous while alluding to the comic with a jury-rigged suit that looks remarkably like the original. I thought at moments it was campy, the terrorists are sort of archetypical and it's not readily apparent why
they're attacking their own people.

The fact that Jarvis is removed from his typical role as a walking, talking, human will also be noticeable to fans of the source material.
Obadiah’s character was well acted as well from the guy who played “the dude” in the Big Lebowski. He really pulled off CEO of Military Armament Company with that epic beard. Really, I couldn’t stop staring at his massive soup-catcher, the thing looked like it needed a set of retro rockets to keep Obadiah’s head from drooping under the weight.

However…
I felt his rather sudden shift from “politically incorrect advocate for weapons development/manufacturing” to “conspiring assassination-arranger/suit-toting bad guy” climaxed rather quickly. Also, his defeat was unsatisfying. I felt like the comic version is better: where Iron Man and Iron Monger battle it out until Stane realizes he’s lost. At which point he reveals how Tony’s father died and finishes himself off in front of the bitter Stark.
Definitely worth a movie viewing, rental, and/or (if you’re a fan of the genre) purchase.

Ah yes... as mentioned before by others in this thread stay till the end of the credits. My friends and I chanced it on opening night and were happily rewarded.

When I first heard about this I wasn't too excited, thinking it wouldn't be great. After reviews of its excellence started flooding in, however, I felt the anticipation grow.

Tonight I went to see it. It was geat. Unfortunately for me, my 2 year old lacks the capacity to sit through movies so at least half the time I have to leave (I'm too nice of a guy to make my wife do it, even once). So I saw the first hour, but missed the end. And that means I'm going to have to wait for it to come out on DVD.

WHY!?!?!!!

I should be seeing this movie sometime in the week, partly because I love the superhero movies and partly because I'm a huge fan of Robert Downey Jr. I was never a huge fan of Iron Man comics, however, but I am familiar with Stark's character and I think that if anyone can do it justice, Downey Jr. can.

I was expecting this to be a movie that was so bad it was good, but from the rave reviews it's getting here, I think I should be safe in spending my money on a ticket.

I laughed, I cried, it became a part of me.

I saw it last night with one comic book nerd [so he says] and one person who has never touched or looked at a comic book in his life.

And since I spent most of the movie alternately giggling silently to myself or singing happily on the inside, I can't help but express my great joy in the glory of the movie that is Iron Man. Does anyone smell War Machine coming? Oh yes, and Pepper Potts was the strong charming character with the best line in the whole movie.
News Bimbo: "He still has you picking up his dry cleaning?"

Miss Potts: "Yes, and sometimes take out the trash."

Then there's the actual "ending" where I jumped up and shouted at my friend: "I ****ING CALLED IT! NOW WHO'S THE *****?"

"Does Marcellus Wallace look... like a.. *****?"

Then why you tryin' to **** him like a *****?
I thought it was a brilliant movie with awesome casting. Ive never read the comics, but the movie made me want to. It is definately worth seeing again. The special effects were simply spectaular and the ending was the complete opposite of super hero sterotypes. I loved it.
