The summer is coming up soon and apparently I am gonna be traveling a lot. And whenever I go traveling I always bring my DS. My problem is that the newest game I own is Pokemon pearl. So yea I really need a few new ones. I really enjoy strategy games like final fantasy tactics and role playing games. I also enjoy puzzle games such as puyo pop fever.

So anyone have any suggestions?

I just got a DS of my own. The only game I have for it so far is Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings. It's really very good, it adds to the story and characters of FF XII, and it's gameplay - a mixture of action RPG and real-time strategy battles - works quite well. So I'd definitely recommend it to any fan of Final Fantasy.

I'm currently looking for Final Fantasy III (the only main series installment I've yet to play), but it's such an old game that I will probably have to order it online. I've read that the game's pretty oldschool, so I don't know if it's actually good or not.

Other than those two games, I don't really know what to recommend. Brain Age looked fun when Nicole Kidman played it in the commercial, but you never know... XD

Oh and I have FF:3 It's a good game. The revamped graphics really add to the whole thing.

Does anyone know of a tbs game silimar to fire emblem for the DS?

You could try looking for a DS version of Advance Wars, which is similar to FE in terms of combat mechanics. I personally prefer FE because of the sheer intimacy the player can achieve with his units, as opposed to Advance Wars where if you lose a battalion you have the option to rebuild it.

Sometimes I wonder if the only reason FE isn't a massively acclaimed series yet is because Western gamers haven't got the patience to play it. But that's irrelevant to the thread.

Also, look into Mario Kart DS. I've heard better things about it than about Double Dash, so it might be worth a shot.

Sort of boring at this point.

Oh and I got Mario Kart a while ago. It's fun but I am tired of it at this point. Thanks though.

Final Fantasy III is good if you like classic FF?meaning there's more of an emphasis on dungeon crawling than storyline. They barely changed anything in regards to the battle system and character/monster stats so it's really true to the original.

I haven't actually bought much on the DS lately either; FFIII and then Zelda: Phantom Hourglass are my two latest games. I'm a bit apprehensive about recommending Phantom Hourglass. It's okay but overall a very simplified game compared to other Zeldas and it also has a couple other annoying flaws. Though it does use the DS's features in some pretty cool ways. It feels like they were trying to please both the legions of casual DS players and the long time fans of the series and it didn't quite work on the latter end.

I was playing Phantom hourglass till my damn stylus went missing. I think I left it at an airport. Do they sell those things separately? Oh and I plan on picking up the new FF:Tactics game and that other new Square Enix title that came out. But their kind of far off. So keep the recs coming guys. I appreciate it :animesmil

Yes they do, in a variety of colors. Then again, my DS came with an extra stylus.

I'm iffy about the Phoenix Wright games. They seem fun enough, but they also seem very short and limited. I've read that each game has about six cases to solve. In hours that must be something like twelve, am I correct? I'll rather spend my money on something that'll keep me entertained for weeks rather than a few days.
All the Phoenix Wright games. If you don't have a problem with doing a ton of reading, then get them right away. Great stories, great characters and great writing.
I second that motion!

Alright, here I go.

Lunar Knights: This one's the hidden gem of the DS. It's got a decent story, plus you can just waste away hours dungeon crawling and hacking, slashing and shooting at zombies and vampires. Great time-waster. Made by the Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear guy.
Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon: If you've payed Harvest Moon, you know what this is. You run around, raise a farm, hit on girls, chat up the locals, and run around dungeons killing stuff. Wait, what? Yeah, you fight monsters. You can even capture them and raise them as livestock.
The Ace Attorney series: These are just way too addictive. You'd think playing a video game as a lawyer would totally suck, but that assessment couldn't be more wrong.
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass: This one's a bit iffy. If you've played Zelda and you come in looking for an epic journey filled with wonder, excitement, difficulty and a breathtaking storyline, keep moving. If you just want something that's easy to pick up and darn fun to play, this is for you.
Animal Crossing DS: I honestly don't play this one very much anymore. It's just not as much fun without online play and my modem hates the game for some reason. If you want to relax and just wander around collecting stuff, though, this is a good game.
Mario Kart DS: You know the deal. It's Mario Kart. It's fun. Play it.
Final Fantasy III: If you're expecting a super epic awesome storyline, this isn't it. The original game was made back in the NES era, so it's pretty run-of-the-mill. However, the real worth of the game lies in the Job system, which is really fun to mess around with, and the overall difficulty, though I understand it's been slightly toned down from the original. It also boasts some impressive graphics and an amazing opening cutscene. Watch out when saving, though. Some moron messed with that more than it needed to be messed with.
Digimon World: Dusk/Dawn: This is more of a niche game, but if you like the breed and battle stuff like Pokèmon, you'll probably enjoy this. The real fun comes with the fact that you can reverse-evolve your monsters, making them potentially stronger than before. Their stats can rise even higher the next time they evolve.

As for Pearl, The main part of the game is pretty forgettable and there are only one or two Pokèmon added to this gen that are worth remembering at all. The real fun comes from the online aspects of that one.

Man, Gallade is awesome, though...

The first and third have 5 cases to solve each. The second and fourth have 4. However, you're seriously underestimating the amount of time you spend on the cases. The first case of every game is basically a courtroom tutorial. They last on average probably about an hour to an hour and a half. All the other cases (except case 4 of game 3, which is pretty much just one courtroom segment as a prologue to case 5) have 2 phases: courtroom and investigation. On average, you go through both twice per case, though 3 cases in game 1 have you doing them 3 times each. each segment takes about an hour or longer, I'd say. So...

Game 1: 1.5+4+6+6+6=23.5 hours
Game 2: 1.5+4+4+4=13.5 hours
Game 3: 1.5+4+4+1+4=14.5 hours
Game 4: 1.5+4+4+5(MASON System, which is confusing enough to take up a lot of time)= 14.5 hours

Of course, it really doesn't matter. Each game is worth every penny and more because of the amazing storylines, witty writing and hilarious pop culture references. Not to mention how satisfying is it to watch every maniac you corner sweating bullets on the witness stand.

All of the games mentioned so far are great. Especially Phantom Hourglass and Advanced Wars.

If you're into role playing games like FFIII then I suggest you check out The World Ends With You. (click) It's a great game with a very unique combat system, intriguing story line and lovable characters. It'll keep you busy for quite a while.

If you like puzzle games, then you have to rent/buy the ultimate puzzle game available on the DS. Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords. It's a really cool puzzle game where you fight enemies with magic and such and advance through a decent story line.

What makes this game so much fun and memorable is the zany characters and cases along with the utterly cheesy trial music. I'll go through a case and deliberately press a witness on everything because it's just so funny to watch. It's totally hilarious to watch them all go to pieces when you tear their fake testimony to pieces. Haha! :D

I'd definitely recommend this for having when you're on a long trip. Mixed in with other games that have been mentioned, it makes a nice addition to one's collection of games.
