Aaryanna
I just saw a preview to this the other day. I loved the older one made back on 1959, here's the trailer to it too. Heh. It's cheesy as all get out but I still get a kick out of watching that movie. So naturally I'm looking forward to seeing the re-make when it hits the theaters on July 11th. Who else is excited to see it?
Sabrina
Ooh! I saw the trailer to that just the other day. I remember watching the one they made back in 1959 as a kid. I just loved the idea of exploring the inside of the Earth! Naturally I grew up and learned more but that older movie is something I remember fondly. I really hope they did a good job with the re-make. I know I'm going to see it when it comes out.
Rachmaninoff
I'm kind of iffy on this, I'm not thrilled that they picked Brendan Fraser or that many of the clips in the trailer look like they are trying to be funny. I am going to see it since I enjoyed the other one made back in 1959, but I'll be disappointed if they turned it into more of a comedy this time around. Anyway, perhaps I should pick up the book and read it, after I see the show of course, reading before seeing it is a sure way to have yourself going...I can't believe they left that or this out. XP
Yeah, I just finished reading the book today. It's absolutely enthralling and I must say that Jules Verne really is the father of science fiction. But just like you said, even from watching the trailer I notice a bunch of stuff that's all out of place and is already bugging me. First off is that they seem to have changed the characters. In the book its three men, two seniors and a young adult (2 geologists and a guide) but for some reason instead of a guide they have a girl and the Professors nephew is a kid. The movie is obviously just going for the family laughs and isn't taking the book seriously at all, which bothers me quite a bit. But that's what I get for reading it before I see the movie! I should watch previous JttCotE movies and see if they lived up to the book. The trailer you posted, Aaryanna, looks like it is a much better representation even if it's a little dated.
Allamorph
Brendan Fraser seems to be having a good year. This movie and Mummy 3 coming out at the same time? Nicely done. I think normally I might have the same concerns as Rach, but I think this movie will also take a good deal of the old English pomp out of the atmosphere, which is always refreshing?in the sense of the difference between stale air and moving air. That said, I'm not holding out much hope for great continuity with the book, but I don't think that was at all the intent. I also think that there are some books that if made into movies need to be adapted precisely, and that there are some that do not. With things like LotR, the complexity is part and parcel with the surface story, while here I think the general impact will be fine as is; Jules' deal was basically subterranean exploration, and look what the movies did to Dinotopia. I think it'll be a good watch as long as you don't go into it expecting a stunning visual masterpiece of V for Vendetta proportions.

That way I can just enjoy the film for what it is instead of expecting more, I'm going to at least try to. Then I can laugh at it and read the book and watch the older movie just for kicks. Ellerby
So I just got back from seeing it in 3D. What a magnificent display of our current technology! The entire movie was visually stunning. I'm glad I read the book before seeing the movie. They complimented each other exceptionally well and there were lots of things for me to pick up on that your normal audience member wouldn't have got. They actually didn't use the same characters but they still tied the story of the book characters in. It was very well done. I have to admit that if I hadn't read the book and didn't see it in 3D it would have been a bit of a bore, though. So if you're going to see it make sure you see it in 3D. It made the movie 10x better.
