James
I just want to add that this thread has been fine with me, in the sense that it was kind of silly to begin with... so I haven't minded what's happened here. But even if it's a silly discussion, at least try to keep to the point - having private chats between two members is pretty much a pain in the butt for everyone else. Rachmaninoff
I'll re-open this for now, but I do expect people to remember what AIM and PM's are for. Like James said, it's a pain in the butt when people flood it with messages that have no place in the thread. By all means some silliness is okay, but otherwise, it's just annoying. So... lets try to not derail it again. Thanks.

James
I'm sure Gavin will find some other way of encouraging gang activity. Ahem. Anyway, to me it seems obvious that no amount of intervention by Wal-Mart in terms of products is going to make one atom of difference. Kids and gangs often go together, like movies and popcorn. If kids want to create idiotic gangs, they will do so regardless of bandanas. Even if Wal-Mart stops selling them, they will easily be able to buy them elsewhere (does mom know what little Jimmy's pocket money is going towards? Ouch!) And kids will use other means to identify which gangs they belong to if banadas are no longer available. It could be anything - you might have one gang that only wears Pokemon t-shirts and another that only wears Disney t-shirts. Pokemon versus Disney, a crime epidemic. Kids are smart and stupid at the same time. That is to say, they will always come up with smarter ways to do dumber things.
Will reducing the amounts of butter sold in stores cut down on the number of fat people too?
Brilliant, just brilliant.

Gavin
Ahem. Please rest assured fellow members that I am indeed not the CEO of Wal-Mart Corporation, secretly conducting market research here for the last seven years to better develop our various mind-control devices in order to further my intentions of world domination, which by Alien's Resurrection have been realised on an intergalactic scale. Please also rest assured that I am not promoting gang activity in the United States through the use of certain coloured bandanas, as to be honest I find gangs by their nature to be quite juvenile. I prefer to support various military and political insurrections, as well as certain wars as the aftermath of these conflicts allows me to enter the newly established civilian markets and make a killing (pardon the pun)...I mean...Oh damn it...Members, please kindly wait inside your homes for my various goons to arrive and make you disappear for knowing too much...

I was going to say ... I don't think I've ever heard nor seen that before, that would have been news to me. I really don't think not seeling red or blue bandannas at Wal-Mart will curb gang violence or membership in any way, shape, or form. Gangs could easily go from wearing bandannas to wearing different colored bracelets or shoes or etc., the lsit goes on. It would not be constitutionally acceptable to stop selling certain colors of a product because some drugged up foo's decided to adopt them into their violent culture. Bah.

Remove butter to get rid of obesity! Remove this to get rid of that! >_> Uh... no. Doesn't replace parenting and teaching kids to be smart enough to NOT join a gang or to be sensible with their diets to avoid obesity.
