A final crisis approached for their kind, and soon they would no longer inhabit the realm of man. Of the many who once inhabited Hyrule, only three saw fit to bless the land with a final gift. "Nayru, Goddess of the Hearth, created the Lost Woods to feed the hungry and shelter the weak. Din, Goddess of Law, created the Sacred Text for which to guide us. And Farore, Goddess of Life, created Zelda. As Hyrule's first queen, Zelda was to lead the kingdom after the Age of Gods had passed. It is said that Farore favored Zelda above all Hylians, for she was the most beautiful and gentle creature in all the land. However, her subjects soon grew jealous of the girl. They conspired against her, and struck down the young queen The three goddesses were heartbroken: it was their tears that overflowed to create the seas, and their anger which shook the earth to create the mountains. Hyrule would never have a chance to seek forgiveness for their sin, for the Age of Gods was over. James
This sounds good. I've been wanting to see a darker Zelda for quite a while! I did have a couple of questions. First, do character avatars have to be drawn/painted or can they be realistic/photo? Doesn't really matter because I'm sure I can find the former, but I thought I'd ask just in case. Also...just in terms of the overall limits. I'm not really sure what I'm asking here, but obviously this is a mature RPG - do you have any limits as such? Or is it anything goes? And if so, do you have a preference for something more odd/bizarre? I almost imagine that this could be like a Tim Burton-style Zelda, with lots of dark and creepy characters... except more for adults. Anyway, I'll think about my character and I will definitely sign up. :catgirl: (I will probably just edit this post and put my sign up after these questions).

There are strong shades of racism within this Hyrulian-run society, and most of the 'lesser' races of Hyrule live in self-imposed exile with their own kind. I would prefer that the player characters remain Hyrulian, Human or Gerudo. However, if you are willing to play up the racial conflicts of your character living in Hyrule then I have no problem with you playing as a Rito. -Shy
Talon
Name: Ser Raven Sol-Harkinian Race: Almost pure Hylian; he knows not from where the black of his hair comes from, though scrying has revealed no Human or Gerudo within him. Gender: Male History: Named 'Raven' for the darkness of his hair and the amber of his eyes, Raven was the last scion of a family of retainers to the crown of Hyrule, hence the addition to their last name. Born and bred to fight, he holds no love for the arts of the mage, though the arts of the seer and wisdom do hold some small measure of appeal for him. He has spent the last seven of his twenty-two years learning to wield all manner of swords so that he may earn his place as Captain of the Royal Guard. He bears several scars on his back from an encounter with a wolfos; the scars are a reminder of his failure. His mother fell to the evil beasts before he could even begin to rally a counterattack. This has given him a drive and fierce determination; unlike many of the other soldiers of Hyrule, he takes his dedication seriously, and refuses to allow the men of his company or himself to fall to the sins of cowardice and sloth. It is unclear whether he is a racist or not; he is quite tight-lipped and reserves his voice for the training field. It has been said that Raven holds the Three Virtues in equality in his heart, though upon hearing any legend of the Hero in Green, a fierce grimace may be seen to reach his eyes. For the next seventeen years, the child, whom the old man came to call him, Xander, has shown his abilities as the lance. It was old that Artis never taught him the ways of the lance, yet he has never seen such beauty with the weapon. Yet, Xander was an annoying, over-jumpy kid. He seems to laugh at least a hundred times a day and always has to pull a prank on Old man Artis once in awhile. Ellerby
Name: Baba the Delusional Race: Deku Gender: Male Brief character history: On the outside Baba appears to be an over sized Deku scrub (possibly with a royal background) with arms and a staff made from a dried Deku Baba (hence the name). However there is much more to Baba then that. Over 200 years ago a somewhat gullible old Human with strong magical powers was persuaded into handing his enchanted staff over to a Gerudo conman. The Gerudo then used the staff to forever curse this man by turning him into the Deku known as Baba. Waking up as a Deku with no magical powers, a very angry Baba sought to find the Gerudo man that stole his life. For 200 years he's been traveling everywhere his little feet will take him, questioning every traveler he comes across. Telling other Dekus about the story of how he lost his magical staff and was cursed to forever live as Deku is what earned him the name "Baba the Delusional." Maybe someday Babu will get his staff back and become the great wizard he once was. Image: See attachment (minus the large bulbous on his back, everything else stays). I hope you don't mind that I used the Deku King as my appearance. It seemed to fit my character well.
Dragon Warrior
Name: Dread Pirate Lukka [Click] Race: Hylian Gender: Male Brief character history: Short-tempered, egotistical, and a bit of a spontaneous kind of guy, Dread Pirate Lukka has made a name for himself in the plunderin' business by being loaded with hair-brained schemes and fast-paced raids that work on the whim of a miracle. He's courageous, but foolish and blindly charges into confrontation. His pride and reputation are held highest above all. A crew would have to be stark-raving mad to sail under Lukka's colors, but he did once have such a group. However, during a farfetched plot to pillage a great fortune from the Thieves' Loom, Lukka fell victim to the enchanting and unholy powers of the sorceress whom lay in wake there. The leader of the Thieves' Loom despised Lukka like most pirates and grew disgusted with how the "Dread Pirate" dared to rank himself amongst them. He ordered the sorceress to curse Lukka. And so, a hex was placed upon the captain, turning him into a monkey, a cheap joke made at his expense derived from the Thieves' Loom leader referring to Lukka's antics as that of a monkey. Dread Pirate Lukka and his crew were released unharmed, but robbed of their every possession. Lukka wished to sail on and reclaim dignity once the spell was lifted, but his crew had other plans. They considered the Thieves' Loom leader's words and decided they were disgracing themselves by sailing under Lukka, especially when he was a monkey. They called for mutiny and Lukka was cast off in a dingy to drift out in sea. Lukka managed to find his way back home. He returned to his family's old house, where he found his sister, an amateur in enchantments. She managed to lift the hex part way, but due to her lack in experience, Lukka remained with a monkey's tail. Nevertheless, he sails on, raiding and pillaging, keeping to his dignity and honor. He wishes to defend his good name. Fortunately for him, no one knows his name to make it any different. SIDE NOTE: Sorry I don't have the drawing capabilities of these other guys. I mean, you've got Talon over there looking like he works for Nintendo's character design team, and all I conjur up is some Wind Waker reject. If I manage to actually draw in normal Zelda style, I shall be sure to toss it up :]
Gavin
Ugh, I am really not happy with this. Name: Valen Race: Human Gender: Male Brief character history: There’s nothing which could be described as of warrant or of interest about Valen’s origins. He’s human and had a human mother and human father who loved him very much, like most parents love their children. He grew up in the capital, like tens of thousands of other human children, was educated to the best of his own ability and when the time came, decided to join the City Guard at eighteen in order to find employment. Valen was not born a racist, nor did he become a racist over any one particular incident which he was exposed to during his service with the City Guard. Rather, it was a gradual process, born from seeing the differences in justice and opportunity between the Human and Hylian populations of the city. He would watch, muted in court, as human criminals were given harsher sentences than their Hylian counterparts for similar crimes, or in rare cases when the “Zeldas” as he began to refer to them, were acquitted altogether. It was a clearly biased system, and given the Hylians were the undisputed power in Hyrule, it was clearly a system he could not outwardly change. And so, if Valen could not change the system from without, he would be forced to change it from within, where he and other humans held some power. As a guardsman, Valen had distinguished himself as a capable, efficient and thoroughly by-the-book officer, earning several promotions over a relatively short time-span until he was posted as guard-captain of an entire sector of the capital at thirty-two. Now with genuine authority, he began to act, quietly gathering a cabal of human officers around him with similar views on the “Hylian situation”. Valen’s human guardsmen were encouraged to take all necessary steps to ensure conviction of Hylian offenders, including beating confessions out of suspects and planting evidence where necessary. Valen himself acted as a shield for his officers, covering up their actions from his superiors. Care had to be taken of course, officers too inclined towards prejudice and violence were silenced one way or another, what he and his followers were doing was too important to jeopardise based on petty savagery. In his own mind, Valen only ever saw himself as a necessary evil, the human counterweight to the Hylian courts, the hand of human justice. Now aged forty, and with the so-called “Gerudo invasion” on the horizon, Valen has begun to take an interest in their minority population of the city, quietly detaining members marked by his followers as representing a potential threat for interview and potential internment. To date he has yet to uncover a Gerudo operative, Valen knows they are there however, and he will find them. P.J. McKrafty
Name: Ariador Race: Half-Gerudo, Half-Human Gender: Male Brief character history: Born to a noble seer, Ariador was promptly abandoned after birth so that his mother wouldn't lose status. Raised in a society where only one pure male is born per century, the half-breeds are treated as outcasts and are used for slave labor. The lucky ones stay small, they are used as servants and the such. The big ones end up as basic foot soldiers or bodyguards. A better definition for this position is human shield. Ariador was unfortunate enough to have a large father. He was placed in the ranks of the Gerudo long-bowmen. On a routine escort is where Ariador found his freedom. They were several miles into the desert when they were attacked by a group of renegade Gerudo. Since the company was taken by surprise, the battle was over before they knew it. The noblewoman they were escorting was killed first and most of the guards were down before Ariador was able to string his first arrow. Being taken prisoner the remaining guards were taken deeper into the desert and abandoned. Traveling for miles in what they thought was the direction of home actually took them further in the wrong direction. Those who didn't succumb to dehydration had nothing to do but continue on. When all hope seemed lost Ariador was found by a passing Hyrulian patrol on the fringes of the desert. Instead of being his saviors they became his captors and have taken him as a prisoner of war. Studying under her Hylian father, whom she lived with alone for most of her life, she worked hard toward the pursuit and eventually became somewhat accomplished, though grew to live under the Hylian way of thinking and behaving, despite her half-breed blood. Seeking to further her skills and her knowledge, she left her home and began to travel, stopping everywhere and talking to everyone she could in order to learn more. However, this led to more than a few altercations, having attempted to deal with other species—ones that do not easily set aside the treatment brought upon them by others of a kind. Despite this, she continued to travel and gather knowledge, keeping various records of her journeys. Knowing that a war would only serve to hamper her efforts for travel, she offered what knowledge and skill she had to the war effort, if only to experience and learn what war is like on the front lines. James
NAME Link RACE Hylian GENDER Male Image credited to nabey. Like Queen Zelda, Link owes his name to those who came before him. Many years prior to his birth, his grandfather destroyed the Great Dragon Volvagia at the summit of Death Mountain. This act of heroism not only saved the ancient Hyrule Castle, but also the whole of Castle Town (which sprawls in all directions around the castle itself). Legends say that "Grandfather Link" spent weeks scaling Death Mountain, fighting many strange and wondrous beasts along the way. He not only destroyed the fearsome Volvagia, but he also collected a number of magical objects, which were said to be the stuff of legend. Upon returning to Hyrule Castle (with one of Volvagia's horns as evidence), he presented these powerful objects to Zelda. Years later, after his death, another terrible threat arose to confront the Kingdom of Hyrule. This time, the powerful wizard Aghanim, threatened the very Monarchy itself. Aghanim had worked as a member of the Hyrulian Guard, but had become obsessed with power and greed. It was as though Zelda's descendants were each fated to confront an enemy; many feared that a terrible curse of fate had befallen the Kingdom. Link's son, who carried his father's name, was called into action to defeat the evil wizard. When Hyrule Castle was overtaken by Aghanim (with Zelda imprisoned), Link bravely found his way in via a secret passage in the castle gardens. He defeated Aghanim and restored peace to the land of Hyrule. The success of both Link and his father became an important part of Hyrule's history. This led Queen Zelda to dub them The Heroes of Time, because no matter what the threat, the Fated Sons would always be there to defend the Queen and Her country. Many years later, yet another Link was born. Like his father and grandfather, he seemed determined to protect Zelda and defend the Kingdom of Hyrule. As many Oracles predicted, another dark threat came over the Kingdom. This time, it came in the form of a warlord from the East. Link did not wait for instruction or request, nor did he wait for a desperate plea. Instead, he rode straight into the Great Desert toward the Gerudo Encampments. Along the way, he fought beasts that nobody had encountered before. Image credited to sandara. Artist's impression of Link fighting Gryphons in the Eastern Desert. After several months of travel, Link returned to Hryule. He faced expectant villagers, who hoped to hear good news from his travels abroad. But he had nothing to tell them. He was bruised and bloody, his clothes were in tatters and his eyes had lost their fire and courage. Word soon spread that Link, the Hero of Time, had failed. The Gerudo consolidated their power in the East and a powerful new Emperor was appointed; the only male of an all-female tribe. His name was Ganondorf. Apparently, evil had won. Hyrule's greatest hope had failed. Not much else is known about the legendary hero, who moved away from Castle Town. Rumors suggest that Link relocated to the Lost Woods, where he knew he could be alone. Some claim to have sighted him, but as time has passed, so too has the memory of Link. His name and the legend of his forefathers have begun to vanish like eroding sand. It is said that Link has developed an odd psychological condition as a result of his horrific experiences in the East. Nobody knows the truth and fewer still seem to care. Link and his legend have been long forgotten.
Shy
Name: Ganondorf Race: Gerudo Gender: Male Brief History/Biography: Beyond the borders of Hyrule lies the Desert of Doubt, an arid wasteland inhabited by the proud Gerudo tribes. It is said that 1,000 years ago a cabal of Gerudo princes were the first to conspire against Princess Zelda, hoping to seize the throne. As punishment for their actions, the Goddess Din summoned forth a powerful plague, one which she hoped would destroy every Gerudo male, and eventually the Gerudo themselves. However, the Gerudo were a clever people. Through sorcery and secret ways the females survived the generations, and overcame the curse of the Goddesses. It was during this time that the tribe came to worship a new god, Ganon. To appease their deity, once every century a dark ritual would be performed. A virgin from within the tribe would be sacrificed to Ganon, and in return the Gerudo would be blessed with the birth of a pure-blooded male. This child, Ganondorf, is destined to become emperor of the nation, and destroy Hyrule once and for all. To date none of these campaigns have been successful. The Gerudo have learned from their various failures. New strategies have been created, and the Desert of Doubt is now surrounded by powerful allies. Many believe it is time for the Gerudo people to abandon their old ways, but the Emperor calls for war once again. Recent political strife within Hyrule threatens to spill blood beyond the nation's borders. If action is not taken, Ganondorf claims, the powerful artifacts hidden throughout Hyrule could be used for sinister purposes. Ganondorf insists that Hyrule's instability poses a threat to not just the Gerudo, but the entire world. Aceburner I need an image for your character as soon as possible.[/strike] You'll notice that two of the character images featured do not have sign-ups. Who those characters are should be fairly obvious, but if not, you'll understand by the end of my first post. Except that to be up in 12 hours or so. I've got work to do! -Shy Edit: Forgot Xander's avatar. Whoops.
Orcus
Name: Faust Race: Human Gender: Male Brief character history: Faust was born into a human family, son of Faustus and Guinevere. Faustus was a blacksmith, and his mother, a maid for a rich Hylian family. His childhood was far from happy, but he remained infallibly, and naively, optimistic. At a young age, Faustus watched as his father?s job suffered due to a neighboring Hylian blacksmith taking all of the business in the area, despite his inferior products, and also as his mother slowly became more and more withdrawn from her family due to the nature of her ?work?. He was unsure exactly what the nature of his mother?s job was, but it clearly drove a wedge between his parents, and he could often hear the two of them fiercely arguing well into the night. Finally, at the age of 12, the arguing ended- when his mother was murdered. Her body was found near the property of the Hylians she worked for; clothes ripped, and housing strangle marks around her neck and dark bruises around her wrists. Her employer claimed to know nothing about the nature of the crime, though even the young Faust was astute enough to note that the size of the strangle marks were exactly the same size as her employer?s hands. His father noticed to, and for the next couple of months he shut down shop and holed himself and his son in his house, relentlessly attacking his son every day. Faust was terrified at first, and couldn?t bring himself to even raise his arms in defense against his father?s onslaught. He would plead fruitlessly for his father to stop, and he spent most of the first month crying. He wised up soon enough. By the third month, not only was defending himself reflexive, but so was attacking back. His father, in turn, increased the intensity of his assaults, adding weapons into the fray. This went on for half a year, and then, just as suddenly as his mother was out of his life, so was his father. He woke up that morning, realizing he father was nowhere to be found. He lied back in his bed and remained motionless for the next couple days, waiting for his father to return home- not out of compassion, but because he didn?t know what else to do with himself. Soon enough, however, the news was spread around town; a human had attacked a Hylian manor, slaughtering everyone before finally being killed by Hylian officials. Faust, unable to handle himself, and enraged with his father, left the house and turned to a life of crime and violence, becoming a murderous Robin Hood of sorts; stealing from the Hylians and giving to the humans. This life lasted until he was 15, with Faust barely keeping out of the hands of Hylian officials. Ironically, his arrest finally came under false pretenses- he was framed for a murder and series of thefts performed by another criminal. He was given a biased trial and sent straight to prison, despite his age. Even in prison he was treated as the worst of criminals, with the officers and the Hylian prisoners teaming up to thrash him every day. He sustained a number of serious injuries the next four years he was trapped in there, including a permanent burn over his left eye were he was struck with a hot metal rod. Surprisingly, all of these events helped to calm down the rampaging Faust. His skills in combat increased with every prison brawl he was forced to endure, and his agility and stamina were augmented substantially. His skills didn?t go unnoticed by the guards, and eventually, word of his talents reached important upper echelon officials as the war loomed closer. Finally, he was approached with an ultimatum- whither out the rest of his days in that hell hole, or be granted amnesty by fighting for the Hylian army against Ganandorf. Which do you think he chose?
