silpheedpilot
Since there is only 11 days left and I saw no thread for this killer app then I saw fit to create one. Unless you've been living under a rock for the past 10 years or don't like fighting games (Although, that would be silly) then you probably know how the Soul Calibur series are the quintessential weapon based fighting games of...ever. This installment really got me going when I found out there would be a "Guard Break" meter which keeps turtlers from, well, turtling and will make for quicker gameplay. I also can't wait to see the new create-a-character system and how different armors, clothes, and items on your character will affect weight and such as well as the ability to have pieces of your armor broken off. The inclusion of many Star Wars cameos also caught my eye when they announced that only furthering my desire to play the game. How about you all?
Sandy
I for one have been expecting this with great anticipation. I've even contributed to the Wikipedia article made from this game, and gone into a few edit wars for it (well, you know how stubborn I can be, so is it any wonder? XP ). I own both SC II and III, and have had many fun moments playing them with my friends. Even though I'm in no way good at playing the games, there are many things I still enjoy about them, such as the variety of the characters, the relatively deep storyline, and the possibility of creating your own fighters (introduced in SC III, but it will return in this fourth Soulcalibur game better than ever). So for me, SC IV is really a must-buy, and I don't think I will be disappointed.
Korey
Seeing as I turtled by way to Victory in Soul Calibur II and III , the addition of Guard Break really takes the mind games out of it, but I'm willing to adapt. I love the guard impact feature that they have in SC, because it reminds me of the reversal attacks in Virtua Fighter. It encourages your opponents to be original in their attack patterns and makes the mindgames g ofurher. SC is a really deep fighter, despite it's simple button layout. The addition of Star Wars characters was neat, I loved how they had cameos in SCII. I hated fighting Link because of his unblockable arrows and I wasn't that apt at the game at first to eight way run, lol. But I got my Rapahel pretty good until SC3 came out and changed everything. I'm anticipating this game to be a huge hit, good fighters have been scare as of late. And I mean non party Fighters.
desertphoenix
...until SC3 came out and changed everything.
A lot of us understand, and we all had a favorite character or two revamped on us. For me, it was Ivy. Honestly, she doesn't feel a thing like SC2. Hmm, not much praise or anticipation that I think I know is left to give that has already been said. I am kind of curious how well the new guard breaking is going to work out. I think it will be a needed addition, because I think SC is the only game were the better the players are; the less hits actually land, which is not very exciting to me. I also wonder how easy or hard it will be to land an instant kill after your enemy's amour is wrecked. It is just four buttons to press, but if is takes over three seconds for the hit-box to land, it's not going to be worth it to me. I guess my biggest concern is that I'm really not a Star Wars fan. I will admit that the third guy with a light saber I've seen in a trailer looks pretty cool. (Checks Wikipedia), they could of thought of a better name than Starkiller
Claire
I loved Soul Calibur 3 so much, especially for the Character Creation system. I'm glad to see it's back for SC4. And the addition of Star Wars characters is very neat; having a lightsaber fight would be freakin' sweet. Too bad I don't have a PS3 or a 360. :[
Allamorph
And the addition of Star Wars characters is very neat; having a lightsaber fight would be freakin' sweet.
I'm mildly concerned they might end up with a Vader that plays like Siegfried and a Yoda that plays like either Yun-Seung or The Assassin (SC2). But, from looking at how Brawl deleted almost all clones and made some dang good personalized movesets, it's only mild concern. And I second your :[
(Checks Wikipedia), they could of thought of a better name than Starkiller
Starkiller was the original version of Skywalker. Lucas had started with the idea of a main villain, but kinda got sidetracked; however, I'm fuzzy on the details, since I was only half paying attention when I learned about it.
Korey
*Has a 360* :] I didn't really care too much for the Character Design part of SCIII for the sheer fact that game was really imbalanced in competetive play and my favorite character (Kilik) got severly snubbed. I had to play Seung Mina, Xiang Hua or another high tier character just to be in the loop. That game made it super hard to win with anyone that wasn't high tier. I'm hoping that SCIV doesn't have too many balance issues, but I'm still looking forward to this game because I love fighters. I should pick this up and start plugging away on my stick so I can enter some tournaments in the future. I also heard the environments are destructible this time around, sounds like we're gonna be figuring out some high damage DOA styled combos that involve these surroundings. Darren
*Sniff Sniff* :animecry: I don't have a PS3 or X-Box 360! And this really sucks because I've been hooked on Soul Caliber ever since I had my Game Cube. (Simply because SC2 was one of the first games I bought) But since I've always been a Nintendo fan, I don't get to play 4. :( But I'm sure that I'll be inside Best Buy playing the game until they kick me out. I could care less about 'tiers'. That's a load of arbitrary crap to me. But I agree, since my Talim got royally frilled with in 3. (So I hear. Although that could just be the button-spammers talking, and not people who could actually string her moves together.) Talim was just shy of broken in 2, what with the Double Crescents doing so much damage and not having any weaknesses and all, and she didn't need stances to attack from any-which-a-way. =P

silpheedpilot
Four days to go, troops. I'm getting more and more excited by the more videos I watch. The game looks fantastic! I just can't wait to see what they did to my boy Yun-seong, besides making him look like a pirate. Now I'm not WORRIED, per se, about them jacking my character up but I'm a bit nervous since they've decided to go a much faster route. So, we'll see.
Claire
I read that for the Character Creation system, instead of choosing a job class for your original character, you have to pick which SC character they will mimic in battle. However, you can't base your characters off the Star Wars characters. :( I thought it would be freakin' sweet to be able to make a custom Jedi character. I've already done so in SC3 (except, of course, they're only swordsmasters) with the characters from my Star Wars play. I don't know why I care, though, it's not like I'll be able to get the game. Siiigh.
silpheedpilot
Okay. First impressions. Darth Vader is win. Really, though, it's more to love. It's Soul Calibur with tweaked move sets and a much more beautiful presentation. The Create-A-Soul that was introduced in the third installment makes it's return but this time the items you select effect the outcome of your characters abilities. The replacement for Chronicles of the Sword in the third installment and Weapon Master Mode of the second is Tower of Lost Souls in which you ascend, or eventually descend, a tower of 60 floors fighting characters and bosses along the way. Every floor has a number of slots for you to fill with characters should your primary character fall in battle and special conditions hinted toward you at the start of the battle will net you treasure chests should you succeed. All in all a the first impression is good.
randomuser83
I just bought it last night and so far so good. Everything is what I thought it would be and YODA is the ownage.
silpheedpilot
Yoda is cheapage. He's that one character you always really punch your friend over for using. Like Oddjob in Goldeneye. He's too short so basic horizontal attacks can't hit him, and if you're a halfway decent Sol Cal player you'll be 8 way running enough that vertical attacks are rendered ineffective. You can't grab him. He's completely broken.
Vigilance
Does anyone know how much Soul Cailbur IV cost for a used game? I would like to buy it for a cheap price if someone tell me how much does it cost for a used version?
