Magus
After this, I suppose I'm done with the thread. Solo - To each their own. I admit that I haven't actually went back and watched any of the old stuff outside of Superman, Spider-Man, X-Men and Batman from time to time. (Don't feel like wasting money on it.) But at the same time, the remakes to the older series are fairly poor. And then we have shows that are fairly similar to what I once used to watch. The only cartoon that's not affiliated with Bugs Bunny and Scooby Doo (and was comedy) that I used to watch was the Simpsons, and I've been grown out of that series back in the late 90's, so obviously I'm not going to like shows like Family Guy, or Futurama. I do agree with you on a couple of things though. The quality of animation in some shows nowdays, do beat out most, if not all of the oldies, and it is close to impossible for me to get into some of the older cartoons (Batman: TAS) because of it's poor animation. Maybe I shouldn't have said all modern cartoons are crap because there is a handful (probably only a few) that I'd actually watch. Spectacular Spider-Man (despite that quirky look), The Batman, Legion of Superheroes, and the newly discovered Avatar. (Oh yeah, and Justice League) But all this other stuff that's being mentioned... Foster something, Spongebob, etc... just, no. Lunox - Perhaps I am too serious, but then again I also don't consider what other folk might think is funny. Lack of sense of humor, perhaps. But then again, I also find a lot of shows like Spongebob and Family Guy (2 different shows, I know, but all the same, they're trying to be funny) to be corny. (Now Boondocks is funny) Also, I don't hate Spongebob, (Can't hate something I've never seen. And I'm not really addressing this to you.) I stay away from it due to the crowd that it's suppose to please, because I know if I were to actually sit down and watch a few episodes, I'd only make myself mad, and go to sleep on it.

Yeah, I can see your frustrations there :p Every time a franchise gets rebooted it has to change in some way, either visually or in the writing, and it can take away from what originally made it popular in the first place. But if a series stayed the same forever, it may never attract new audiences and would only appeal to the fans it already had. As far as I know Scooby-Doo hasn't changed one iota since its inception, and to me it's one of the most banal pieces of television ever created. But it's simple enough that kids can get into it at any point, so it actually works quite well in that sense. In comparison, something like Pokemon also hasn't changed since it first aired, but its influence has diminished quite dramatically. While Scooby-Doo's continuance probably rests on its existing reputation to a degree (parents sitting their kids in front of it, or whatever), Pokemon I hardly hear mentioned now, outside of the cards or video games. Because the series has some kind of overlaying story (albeit very weakly), it still isolates people who come into it part way through and don't know what's going on. I doubt Scoob has any complex, over-reaching story arc to confuse people with >.>; It's funny, I know loads of people who've bought the DVDs of Transformers out of sheer excitement that they could own it all, but nobody who's actually watched it again. It depends why a series is made. I can't name even half of all the CN franchises popping up now, and none of the new ones look anywhere near as good quality as Fairly Odd Parents, so I get the impressions they were started as schedule filler under different remits ("okay, we need a sci-fi, something set in a school, etc..."). And the lack dedication to its own quality is really evident if you can't get into it despite knowing the premise is actually quite intersting. I think with comic book series the reboots are that much more jarring if they don't work properly. For the record, I really liked Justice League ^_^ And actually, Thundercats had incredible animation compared to its bretheren. I'm impressed every time I catch the opening sequence to that. To make a point, a favourite series of mine that I still adore is Mysterious Cities of Gold, which was made in 1982. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Futurama is better than Family Guy...
visualkei
I know kids don't really learn anything from SBsquarepants but that show never fails to make me laugh. Spongebob is an incredible character. He's got a good heart, and takes it to the silly extreme.
Nerdsy
Anyone who needs a tv show to be happy should seriously reevaluate their life. As for the whole "cartoons suck nowadays?" Cartoons always suck. It's in their nature. They're not taken seriously at all ("cartoons r 4 kids lol"). They're not given the proper resources, and more often than not they're half-assed because kids don't have high standards, so who cares if this crap isn't superb? That's not to say that there aren't good cartoons, but for every Batman:TAS there's a dozen terrible Marvel cartoons.
Lunar
For your information, squirt, "dude" has by now lost all ties to one gender or the other. It is most commonly used when expressing sincere appreciation or, as in this case, when the speaker feels the addressee is being a dweeb. Ease up or hush up, one. FONT]
*sighs* I'm biting my tounge so hard not to say something smart. I'm going to be very upfront: 1)Don't call me "squirt." 2) I'm smarter than you think. 3)I know what "dude" means, okay? 4) I'm not being a dweeb, provided I don't even know what a "dweeb" is. 5) Don't talk to me like that, if you please. Allamorph
2) I'm smarter than you think.
I don't think you realize the implications of that statement there. Since you don't know how smart I think you are, you're assuming that I think you're rather dumb. If that's true, then that would mean you have given me sufficient evidence to decide that you are dumb, in which case it is entirely possible that you are as smart as I think you are. In short, your entire post there was a waste. It had nothing to do with the topic, and it blatantly ignored both Clurr's admonition and my own, which was to just take it easy about this whole thing. Why you seemed to think it more important to get angry over her supposedly confusing your gender than to say "okay, I'll be cool" is beyond me, but that's enough. Enough of the melodrama, enough of the off-topic drama, and enough of the drama period. Just cool it, 'aight? 'Aight.
That's not to say that there aren't good cartoons, but for every Batman:TAS there's a dozen terrible Marvel cartoons.
Or a Chuck Norris or Mr T. cartoon. :p

Anyways, I agree that it's ok to watch something if it makes you feel good. Hell, I occasionally watch some things that I normally wouldn't simply because it puts me in a better mood. However, to say that this rule applies to everyone, let alone for the same shows, is just plain silly. Yes, you may get happy watching spongebob, on the other hand.. it makes me want to kill someone. However, you turn that around.. many people wont like the same 'comfort' shows that I like. Hell, when I want to get 'happy' from watching something on TV... I watch reruns of Tremors (1 & 2). Some people hate them, some people love them. I am one that loves them. As far as your "I'm smarter than you think" statement... you've not only introduced yourself to the deepest concepts of Irony, but contracted yourself at the same exact time. I'm no jeaneus but I'm not the one arguing that for everyone to be happy they have to watch spongebob. NOTE! If you ask why I spelled it jeaneus instead of genius, and feel smart for noticing my error.. please feel free to make a post correcting me. I'd really appreciate it. visualkei
Oh, man. I never look up Spongebob Death Note parodies, but I'll always watch em if someone posts them. Hilarious. Btw, I didn't have the motivation to watch DN until I saw a Spongebob version of it. Which is really strange. Hey, for anything out there, there are going to be people who have extreme opinions. Love/hate. I'm surprised a thread of this topic can get this ugly. ...It's Spongebob. Anyways, there were some good cartoons out there, and there are some really good ones now. Heck, I'd say most cartoons out there today are more than watchable. I noticed that a lot of popular cartoons have sophisticated jokes to appeal to more adult audiences. And I'm not just talking about the stuff they show on Fox. Nick toons is jammed packed with entertainment. ...I never seize to catch another funny thing no matter how many times I rewatch Futurama episodes. Shinmaru
Hahaha, those SpongeBob = Death Note parodies are wonderful. The one with SpongeBob acting out Light's initial killing spree is especially hilarious. I'm a SpongeBob fan, although I haven't watched the show regularly in a while. Whenever I see an episode I like, I'll watch it, though. The show is good, silly fun. Also, replying to something else I saw -- Batman: TAS had poor animation since when? That statement just blows my mind. It's not as slick as the very best possible today, but it's hardly The Super Mario Bros. Super Show or something like that lol.
