Art Auction Goers

I'm talking about those auctions where there's a piece of work hanging on a "wall" and you actually write down a bid, and come back to check if someone's outbidded you.

Is there anyone here that's ever placed their art up for auction at an anime convention? Were you able to sell it?

How about anyone that's ever bidded on a piece of art? (How much did you bid if you mind my asking...?)

I walked into an anime art auction at a relatively big anime convention once, and the honest truth is, I wasn't that impressed. I saw a lot of things that I could've drawn myself and wouldn't consider good enough to try to sell. When I think of putting art work up to sell I'm thinking of something that's above an beyond the norm. Plus, it makes me wonder-- if someone actually put in a lot of time into a canvas, and a lot of money into purchasing the paint and stuff, and if it turns out decent, are there many otakus out there that'll really fork over the cash?

I'd like to hear some of your experiences as far as anime art auctions go.
