Yes, I know this is music but because it deals with videogames then I figured it would do more good here than in the music section.

Anyway, so, everyone loves a good game soundtrack, right? Granted, yes, there are games that have simply horrendous music and so you either turn it off and play your own tunes, or suffer through it and just forget that game ever had music but..

Have you ever played a game and that soundtrack just stuck in your mind? Whether it was well-known songs by labeled artists or an engrossing score that kept you involved with what was going on with accompanying melodies or concertos?

I'm sure you have, so let's hear 'em!

For me? Easily enough it was Metal Gear Solid. At least it was the first. Back in '98 when that game first came out I was only 10 years old so my appreciation for music was pretty limited but that game in fact made me sit there and just run around in the Warhead Disposal Facility just to listen to the overtone playing while you sneak around, or sometimes I would prolong boss fights just to listen to the great boss battle theme or even just get into fire fights to hear the battle music.

Diablo had really inspiring music as well. The starting town, Tristram, had a very gothic renaissance theme and when you descended into the labyrinth for the first time you heard thumping war drums and ominous tones that sounded like they were coming from the pits of hell themselves. Further into the labyrinth yielded far more epic songs with plenty of overtures and crescendos. Worth playing just to listen to the music.

Anyway, what about you?

Alright, I'm just gonna come out and say one that's pretty obvious, most games from the Final Fantasy series have great soundtracks in my opinion. I think a reason for that is firstly, if you were to pick up one of the OSTs there are so many different tracks and are varied in different ways, from Character Image songs, to just background music. Just to name a few, I enjoyed Aeris' and Tifa's Themes from FFVII; Vamo alla Flamenco from FFIX, To Zanarkand, Suteki da Ne, Besaid Island, Yuna's Ballad from FFX, and Eternity: Memory of Light and Waves from FFX-2. I find background music to be very significant because often it will add that final touch that really makes it seem kinda realistic to you if it's giving off the right feel.

Following along that line, I quite enjoyed the soundtracks from Kingdom Hearts. Again the background music for different worlds and stuff was great, though obviously not all the music in the game was original because of the nature of the game, travelling to Disney worlds where they usually used remade tracks as the background or somewhere in it. But the worlds like Traverse Town and Twilight Town had kind of mellow tunes to go with the kind of laid back atmosphere, while the ending worlds tended to have eerieish or colder music (I'm really bad at describing music ><). And I thought it was fun how your battles in Port Royal would use the Pirates of the Caribbean theme, that was cool. =P Plus I really liked the key vocal songs from KH 1 and 2; Hikari/Simple and Clean, and Passion, both done by Utada Hikaru.

Another game that isn't so well known that I thought had a great soundtrack was Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure, from the name alone I think you probably get the idea, but it was cutesy with the characters periodically bursting into song in points of the game. They were a little cheesy, but adorable and actually quite catchy. Though I have to say they should've done something with the dungeon music (the times in the game where you would put the TV on mute and play something else). >.>

Anyway, those were the few that immediately jumped to mind.

Any and all music from the first Final Fantasy's (I-VII). I guess it's more of a comfort thing, one of those reminders to your childhood. There are several games that have good soundtracks, but those would be the particular ones.

Oh and NFL 2K for the original XboX. Just because you could customize so finley. For those of you who don't know you could set a certain part of a track saved to your Xbox to play at certain times. ex. First down was the chorous to Free bird, since whenever you get a first down it free's up your play book. (cheesy, but I was like 15 so I was all about football and being cheesy)

Ohh! I know. On Tekken, my fav game, there's this song on one of the stages that I associate with my fav character(hwoarang). It's catchy and it's like the other music I listen to. Also, it's an illegal place to fight.:catgirl:
