Ellerby
Founder Lrb Writers Lrb Omega Ace Raiha DeLarge Sponsors Tetra of sound
Posting The basic idea is that after we've each written up a character we all become writers for the show "Magic Hat Rabbits: The Legend of the Gate to Beyond." In the actual RP everything will be divided into episodes. Each episode will be divided into three posts. Instead of posting about your character, you'll actually be posting part of an episode so we all have free control over all characters. The very first post in the RP will be the Introduction to the first episode. If you're posting an introduction you are basically setting up the story for the rest of the episode. The second post in the RP will continue the episode with a Problem. If you're posting the problem you're continuing where the Introduction left off and creating a problem for the characters of the show to face. The third post in the RP will finish off the episode with the Solution. Posting the solution is rather easy as you're just tying all the loose ends presented in the first half of the episode and ending it on a (hopefully) happy note. It may seem overwhelming but it's actually very simple. Commercials What would a TV network be without commercials? Whether or not you're participating in the RP is irrelevant if you just want to create a commercial. All you have to do is write/make a fake advertisement that might appear in between episodes of a TV show and PM it to me. Once I receive and approve it you can post your commercial in any OBtv show running. You can only post the same commercial once in each show but you can always just create another commercial. What kind of things would you advertise and how? Your restrictions are only as limited as your creative abilities. If you want to advertise a thread you posted in the arcade then by all means create a short and fun ad for it and send it my way. If you want to create an ad for some zany invention that would never work in real life then you can. I imagine commercials will come in all shapes and sizes. You can create a video on YouTube, make a picture on photoshop, write up a read-only commercial or even a combination of all three! If you are interested in creating a commercial but can't think of anything then please send me a PM and I'd be more then happy to help. If you already have something in mind then make it and send it my way! Sandy
This sounds quite excellent to me. It feels light but also involving, and the concept is fresh. I just have to ask: are the characters same from episode to episode? Are the shows limited only to cartoons and "kids' shows", or will there be more adult-oriented shows as well, like soap-opera and reality-tv? This is definitely something that could get me back in the mood for roleplaying! I feel a bit ashamed to be a moderator in this area because I haven't participated in any games in months. I chose a children's show for the first one because it wouldn't be incredibly deep and wouldn't require a lot of effort which is good for a first run of something never done before. But you can do anything. If other people want to use TV Time in their own roleplays then I say go for it! But I really have my heart set on a kids show so the first RP to use TV Time will be just that. Maybe not Monster Hunters but something similar. While I do want a kids show, that doesn't mean we have to be kids. Most of the characters will probably be late teens early twenties. Think something along the lines of Power Rangers. I'm all ears for any ideas.
Darren
I think it's a great idea, but I'm with Sandy on wanting to keep the same characters from show to show...

Which is absolutely fine with me. Remember that the few people (I'm thinking 3-5 people max) participating in this "show" are the main characters. As long as you can handle controlling more than a few people in one post all the characters should be in the majority of the episodes. If by show you mean TV Show then chances are each show is going to be so different from another that characters from one show just wouldn't fit in others unless it was some sort of spin-off. What I'm thinking is I'll have one main thread in the Backstage as the discussion for all the various shows currently playing. We can call it OBTV. At first there will only be one OBTV Show playing (which will be the one I launch) but if others see and like the idea they'll be free to make their own OBTV Show. :whoops: How does that sound? edit:

And I don't think it'll be a problem to put the same characters into different contexts or shows. Just think about Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck comics - those guys have been through it all: time travel, space, medieval times, pirates, superheroes and all that. Of course the characters wouldn't have the same background story in all shows, just the same appearance and personality. I for one think it would be cool. I also like the logo a lot! ;D
James
Parts of this remind me a bit of my Ladies of London idea (which involved an OB "TV Show"). But I think your concept is much better. I like this idea a lot. Maybe you could allow a few more posts per episode, but still, I think that this could really work. As each TV show begins you could even put together a TV Guide and list shows in different groupings (like by genre for instance). And then you could do a little blurb under each one, with a list of the main characters. If you did Introduction, Problem and Solution though, you could have it so that one member does a post for each. But with each episode they could switch places perhaps to keep things interesting. This way it would be relatively easy to pump out an entire "season" for one TV show without much trouble. Very interesting idea though. I can really picture this having huge potential. I imagine the Guide having a logo for each show and stuff...and people doing totally unique stuff, or parodies of existing shows, etc. You could have comedy, drama, crime/cop shows, horror... etc. All this needs is a fair bit of commitment from the creator. If you were to run/edit the Guide and be a major participant in the shows, it'd have a better chance of surviving.

So really you've got 2 or 3 different writers for each episode. Keeping the guide together and updated wouldn't be too much of a hassle (I do check this site multiple times daily). I don't know if I'd need to be in every or even most of the shows, though. The idea behind this is pretty simple and easy to execute so just about anyone could run their own show. I would use myself as a sort of TV Executive that decides what shows will air, though. I only want quality shows on OBtv. ;) So now that we've got a pretty awesome idea of what OBtv will be could you guys help me create the first show? Lol, here are some ideas I have... Monster Busters Kids Action Show This is pretty self-explanatory. Bunch of kid ghost busters basically. I think it'd be fun because each episode could be them trying to contain a different monster. Otaku Rangers Live Action Show Basically like Power Rangers but with our own OtakuBoards twists. This would be a good show to start with because I think it would draw a lot of people in. And that's what I have so far.. >_>
Raiha
Well I'm just letting you know that as a spokeswoman for the RP lobby, I'll be making several public service announcements for OBtv because what would television be after all with clever attack ads followed by: "I'm James and I approve this message."
The Spectacular Professor
Okay, so just to let you know this is possibly the greatest idea for an unconventional RP ever. Anyway, I'm considering writing an ad for the Law Offices of Dewey, Cheatem and Howe. I could probably make it pretty good, but I want to run it by first to make sure it's cool and it wouldn't be considered plugging my story to an unnecessary degree. After that, possibly High School Musical 36.
