Drizzt Do'urden
CWII=Cold War II? Is this the direction the worlds heading in now? Poland allows the United States to put a defensive missile base only 110 miles from Russian soil. Obviously no Country wants another Countries missles anywhere near it. Especially militarily developed countries. Example, the first Cold War and the Cuban Missle Crisis. With the world at Russia's throat already for the Georgia situation, can it take another cold war? And if so what do you think the odds are this could turn into the next WWIII? I personally believe this one's going to blow over. Though the United States is spread thin elsewhere in the world (and please don't use this thread as a chance to bash the United State's occupancy of Afghan. and Iraq.), it is still a big enough deterant to keep Russia from invading Poland or doing anything of the sort. I can't say I wouldn't be mad myself if Canada agreed to allow Iran to put a missile defense base there. What do you think? Does Russia have a good beef and will they strike back with more than diplomacy? Also, if there are any Russian newgrounders. What is your take on the Georgian incident and the U.S. missile base in Poland?
DeathKnight
[color=crimson]The Russian Federation has a legitimate beef with the United States. The policy of NATO recruitment in former Soviet Republics had an obvious ending - why on earth would Russia take that calmly? Considering that Georgia was part of Russia for a good couple of centuries I'm not entirely sure where the United States gets off saying that invading countries is "bad" since, well, we seem to be fine with it when we do it. I do think that Russia has been waiting during the past two years for a good case to deal a strong blow to Georgia, but this is only after Georgia began to really drift towards NATO. I'm not sure what the Georgian president was thinking - what can NATO do to help beyond humanitarian aid? I don't think the Cold War definitively ended. The suspicion and leering between the United States and Russia went on following the Soviet Union's fall at a slower pace, but it's hard to say that either country has avoided antagonizing the other with much passion. It's hard to say what will happen now. Maybe good things could take place, but I doubt it. I hope Russia doesn't attack Poland because that is an entirely different situation from attacking Georgia, leagues different in fact.
