The13thMan
This thread was created because i needed a break from my electrical engineering homework... I have a question all along the same lines for you guys. 1. What level of education are you at? Highschool, college? 2. What's your favorite subject, or if you're in college, what's your major? 3. Why is it your favorite subject or field of choice? 4. What's your ideal job along the field you are studying? I'm looking for more realistic answers. If anybody says they want to be a candy man when they grow up i will be uber pissed! 5. Talk about whatever it is that interests you! Why is it so damn interesting? Why'd you choose it, blah blah blah. And if you're already out of college/highschool and have a job or whatever then you can answer your question as if you were younger or whatever, i don't care. Here are my answers. 1. This is my 3rd year at the University of Tennessee. 2. I'm studying biomedical engineering. If i had known when i started out i would probably be minoring in physics too. But for me to do that now would require me to stay on for longer than 4 years. And most of my scholarships expire at that point, so i'm trying to graduate in 4 years. 3. I chose bme because i liked math back when i was a senior in highschool. I chose biomedical engineering instead of any other type of engineering simply on a whim. I needed to choose a discipline of engineering from a list of choices and biomedical appealed to me the most. I think it was because i have an interest in the anatomy of the human body and how it works. 4. My ideal job would be someone that develops new technologies along the field of bme or physics. I want to be on the cutting edge, making crazy new stuff to help people out. 5. I love it because it has so much to do with science and the understanding of the world around us. I have to take lots of science and engineering classes and it's really interesting. I like knowing how things work.
chibi-master
#1.) I am a 7.5 grader(self-proclaimed title). I will be an 8th grader on Wednesday. (PM me for an explanation.) #2.) My favorite subject is Social Studies.(History) #3.) I like S.S. because history interests me very much. I admire historical figures because they are remembered for one reason or another and I like learning about them. Plus I'm good at it and don't ever need to study for the tests. #4.) My desired occupation has nothing to do with my favorite subject. I want to be a mangaka with my best friend. And I may work with an anime animation group on the side. I would've said that art was my favorite subject, but I don't like the person who teaches it and as a result I don't like the subject. #5.) I like to draw and I want other people to like what I draw. Plus, I just adore the idea of doing what I love for a living! (Yes, I know, it's everyone's dream to do what they love for a living and it might be hard and immpossible, BLAHDY BLAHDY BLAAAH!) Vicky
1. What level of education are you at? Highschool, college? Currently just High School, but I would barely call it education, nor call myself educated, really, haha. I start college on Wednesday to do English Language, English Literature, Philosophy and Geography at AS-Level. Although I already have an A-Level Sociology under my belt which I did in High School, so I've got both College and High School 'education'. 2. What's your favorite subject, or if you're in college, what's your major? English Language and Literature. But in college (is it the same in America as in England?) you can take on three subjects at A-Level so I'll be doing both English subjects and philosophy. 3. Why is it your favorite subject or field of choice? English Language and Literature... lol. 4. What's your ideal job along the field you are studying? Author, writer, something along those lines. I plan on going into University (somewhere where they actually have a good writing course *rolls eyes* which won't be in this country) and getting a Masters Degree in Creative Writing, then seeing what kind of job that can get me. I've always had my eyes on book publishing though, but we don't talk about that *mumbles*. 5. Talk about whatever it is that interests you! Why is it so damn interesting? Why'd you choose it, blah blah blah. English because, in Britain nowadays, if you speak English no one understands you. So it's sorta like you've learned French or somet'; plus, I'm good at it. That above all makes it interesting because I can actually do it, and I can't do a lot, haha.
visualkei
The13thMan, you must be really need a diversion to make a thread so that people could give long responses and only talk about themselves. Well I need a diversion as well, so Imma reply. =) 1. What level of education are you at? Highschool, college? College graduate. 2. What's your favorite subject, or if you're in college, what's your major? I liked Language Arts the most when I was attending school, but I majored in education. I am interested in technology as well, but kind of don't know where to start if I switched gears. 3. Why is it your favorite subject or field of choice? A major led me to observe in a pre-school which led me into deciding I wanted to teach. 4. What's your ideal job along the field you are studying? I'm still searching for my niche as far as career goes. Although I like to teach, there are still a lot of different things I would like to learn and try. Sometimes I feel that I am lacking when it comes to thinking critically within my field. I'm no good at talking about teaching, theories, philosophies. In this way, I am just not as interested or driven as I'd like to be to make a great change. I would like to specialize in something that I could eventually teach to adults like in a college or even a technical school later. Teaching overseas interests me as well. 5. Talk about whatever it is that interests you! Why is it so damn interesting? I may quit what I do if I somehow got a job in the anime industry. lol. Electrical engineering. Physics. That takes a special mind.
SaiyanPrincessX
1. What level of education are you at? Highschool, college? High school and a few college classes. I'm kind of up in the air right now. 2. What's your favorite subject, or if you're in college, what's your major? In school I always loved art, history and english. 3. Why is it your favorite subject or field of choice? Art, for obvious reasons, I've always loved to draw. I like learning about what those before us have done, especially ancient history. English..well I liked this more while in high school and younger, but not all of it. I don't like poetry, or the stupid books they make you read which they consider "classics". 4. What's your ideal job along the field you are studying? I'm looking for more realistic answers. If anybody says they want to be a candy man when they grow up i will be uber pissed! I'm up in they air. I've considered doing art for the rest of my life; drawing comics. But I like to be an active person, and sitting in one spot all day long all the time doesn't sound very appealing to me. I've also considered being a Taekwondo instructor one day and opening another school under my current. But I'm not to sure about that since I prefer the training over teaching, lol. I have juggled joining the military for the past three years, preferably the Air Force. Its tough to make such a huge decision. 5. Talk about whatever it is that interests you! Why is it so damn interesting? Why'd you choose it, blah blah blah. Martial arts, drawing, working out, traveling. I love martial arts and working out for pretty much the same reasons. Its good for you body and mind, and I want to become the best. Plus I love sparring, ha! I've been drawing since I was really young, and I've always enjoyed it. Its relaxing, and I like creating my own characters, or doing fanart. Traveling is always fun. I've been blessed to have the oppurtunity to visit two of the three places I've always wanted to go to. Japan and Israel. My next location is Egypt, which I hope to get too soon. I really don't mind the long, long, flights, going there is half the fun. All the antisipation! Coming back always sucks though, I never want to leave.
DeathKnight
1. I'm a sophomore in college. 2. I'm an English major and also a member of my university's honors program. The honors program is a good excuse to do more work for a minor accolade, haha. 3. Literature, history, political science, and popular culture. 4. I am looking into being a novelist but until I "hit it big" I will pay bills with journalism or magazines/periodicals. I'm going to pursue an advanced degree, maybe up to a doctorate in creative writing, so I could also end up as a college professor. 5. I'm a man of many interests! I guess I'll talk about corgis since I love corgis and I saw a corgi today that made me **** all over my car with excitement. God created Corgis on the 7th day of creation primarily to please me. Corgis are fabulous creatures endowed with vigor, intelligence, and tiny legs with big bodies. I do not actually own a corgi but I plan to, with great haste, purchase one as soon as circumstances allow me to own one. I will pet it. A lot. Thank you for your time.

eleanor
1. First-year at Emory University. 2. Right now, my Psych 110 class just kicks ***. Actually the class is known to kick students' *****, but the teacher is worth it. The first day of class all the students were totally into what we were discussing and it was legitimately interesting, and the professor was great. Also my English 212 class is cool, since the professor is also sort of kickass. But I'm still undecided on major. 3. I followed professors' reputations while picking classes, not necessarily what subject I was most interested in. But I guess I've always been interested in psychology and how it interacts with biology, and English has always been a solid favorite. 4. Dream jobs: magazine editor, publishing editor, tv/film production 5. The fact that COMPLEX JUST WON SONGFEST '08! Holla
Rachmaninoff
You know The13thMan, less spamage in your own thread would be a good thing, or at the very least, actually pay attention and don?t correct someone for something they didn?t say. I trimmed out those last two posts between you and chibi-master. If you have an issue with that... pm me, don't continue it in here. Thanks. Anyway, as for the actual thread? 1. College graduate since I have my Master?s Degree. 2. Music education and yes it?s my favorite subject. 3. This is practically identical to question two. Still the same answer? Music. 4. I?m looking to teach music when I finish. I want to work for a University, but I?ll be looking for jobs for other levels of education as well, such as High School. 5. Because I like music, that?s why. Not just listening to it, but taking the time to learn to actually perform pieces.
The13thMan
3. This is practically identical to question two. Still the same answer? Music.
I honestly do not understand why people keep saying that. Question 2 was: What's your favorite subject, or if you're in college, what's your major? Where question 3 was: Why is it your favorite subject or field of choice? Do you not see how the question of "what?" and "why?" are different? Question 3 is asking why it is your favorite subject. Did you have an idol who liked the same thing and that's why you liked it? Or perhaps you like it because you love listening to music? It's either people don't understand that difference, it was just a mistake that happened to happen more than once, or i'm a crazy nutter.
Rachmaninoff
Because it's easily answered within the scope of question two so it would have made more sense to combine them. So to say, what's your favorite subject and then turn around and ask why... Usually the question is what's your favorite subject and why... goes together. Mind you I'm talking about when I pass out questionnaires to students. So it's probably just habit for me to think of it as one question. =P
Korey
I think Music still holds as a valid response. Why does he have it as his major, why does he like it? Simple, Music is why. No further explanation needed, good sir. As for myself... 1) I'm a sophomore at New Mexico State University (Fighting Aggies) 2)My major is in Journalism/Mass Communication. 3) Why do I like it? Journalism is just my passion. I love to write, report, get quotes, fact gather, deadlines, creating images and graphics. Oooh such goodness contained in every bite :) 4) I'm going to use my degree to work for ESPN in sports journalism. I grew up watching Sportscenter and thought it would be awesome to work there. My current job is going to get my foot in the door to realize that goal. I'm going to work for the local sportscasting team at our school. Last year three of their crew got signed on to work for ESPN. Here's to hoping that I'm next! 5) What interests me is none of your concern. I've said it enough times in other threads for people to know. If you truly want to hear what I like, either PM me, IM me or look at said threads. I'm kinda getting tired of repeating myself. Basically, I like DDR, I like playing music, I like being with my girlfriend, I like hanging out with my friends on my days off.
Treble
1) This is going to be my fourth year in a small college here in Ohio. 2) I?m majoring in Studio Art with a minor in Business Administration. 3) Anything that involves Art is pretty exciting to me. Learning about art history, looking at art, seeing things from other people?s perspective, or just working on art excites me, and I get totally lost into it. It?s good stuff. 4) I?m still undecided with what areas of art I want to specialize in, but I?m leaning towards drawing like some of the people here. I still need a lot of work, but it seems to be what I enjoy the most so far. Unfortunately, I?m having a lot of difficulties in trying to create something new or drawing something from my own mind. As a result, I?m in a complete stump right now as I?m not sure if this whole art thing is going to work out for me. 5) I like Cookies and Cream flavored ice-cream. Yum! Claire
1. What level of education are you at? Highschool, college? I've been a senior in high school for about three weeks now. 2. What's your favorite subject, or if you're in college, what's your major? I'm not so much about subjects anymore. I'd say I like English Literature the best, but I walked into the classroom this morning and saw "Poetry Timed Writing" written on the agenda for today and thought "why did I wake up this morning?!" (luckily the teacher just hadn't updated the calendar and we took notes on the Renaissance instead...) For me, my favorite class depends on the people. And this year, the people suck. When I go to college, however, I plan on majoring in Recording Arts. 3. Why is it your favorite subject or field of choice? There's no way I'm going to get stuck doing a crappy job I'll hate. I would love to write books, play in a band, and act in movies for a living, but I don't need a college degree to do any of those things, so I don't want to waste my time trying to get one. Instead, I want to learn how to produce music so that I can do so for myself and get a job at a studio if I really really needed to. 4. What's your ideal job along the field you are studying? I plan on becoming a self-sufficient musician, but if necessary I would love to work for a recording studio as a producer. 5. Talk about whatever it is that interests you! Why is it so damn interesting? Why'd you choose it, blah blah blah. Music interests me. I listen to it all day and I discovered that I can also create it myself. I love performing - I'm about to learn the role of the Wicked Witch for a production of Wizard of Oz - so anything involving playing shows with a band or acting is very relevant to my interests. I love writing, too, and I like to think I'm good at it for my age, but sometimes it's really hard and I get frustrated trying to please myself. Darren
What level of education are you at? I am a freshman at Oklahoma University. What's your major? Well, OU doesn't allow their freshman to proclaim a major. Therefore, I'm only in university college, but my planned major is Professional Writing. But of my classes right now, my favorite is Anthropology 2203: Peoples of the World. Why is it your favorite subject or field of choice? Well, my field of choice: Because, not only is writing my passion, but OU offers one of the better programs for Journalism/Mass Communications. (That's my department) Plus, I like writing everything, and even though my goal is to have a book published, I wouldn't mind just being a journalist. Supposedly PW majors are like a jack of all trades because you sample all the majors in the department. Plus, I'm minoring in Film and Video Studies so I'll be set for writing screenplays and such if I choose. My favorite class: Well, I'll be honest, I only have 4 classes, and they're all boring pre-requisites so Anthropology isn't exactly the most interesting; it's just the best of the 4. But still, it is a very entertaining subject to learn about given the content of our class conversations. And the instructor really tries so that's always important. What's your ideal job? Well, a writer of some sort. Poet, author, screenplays, etc... But if that doesn't work out, I've always found investigative journalism extremely interesting... I am disabled but I am still able to work a little in what would have been my chosen field since I teach piano and organ lessons. What's your ideal job along the field you are studying? My favorite subject is science and english. 3. I like it because you get to blow stuff up and english is easier than math as well as the fact I like to read. 4. I'm interested in being a pediatrician, meaning eleven years in college. I think babies are so cute, and I don't want them to be sick and die. It's fun and the human body intriuges me. 5. DBZgirl88
1. I'm in my fourth year at the University of Western Ontario 2. I'm doing a major in Conservation Biology and minoring in Japanese. After my third year, I took a year off because and went to Fanshawe College (in Canada, college refers to a technical school) and studied Multimedia Design and Production, which was great. But I'm back at the University now. 3. As you can see, the three fields I am studying are pretty different, which puts me in a real dillema. I really can't decide on one thing. So many subjects interest me, from the sciences to the arts (I also play violin, but at the amateur level since I only learned to play at middle school and highschool, not private lessons or those special music schools. I did apply to the faculty of music, but didn't get accepted). 4. I do like biology, but unfortunately don't have the marks to get into grad school, and no way in hell will I repeat those first year courses just to qualify. I've had enough trouble trying to finish my biology degree, and for now, a BA will do. I'm not really sure what my dream job would be, unless there's something that can combine my three subjects together. 5. I really enjoy photography and graphic design, and I love learning new languages. I just really enjoy learning.
ChibiHorsewoman
1. What level of education are you at? Highschool, college? I've had a year of college. I was studying Enviromental Conservation, but I kinda flunked out. 2. What's your favorite subject, or if you're in college, what's your major? As I stated my major was Conservation. My favorite subjects in school were Biology, Algebra and English. I did okay with Spanish, but I don't think I tried my best at it. 3. Why is it your favorite subject or field of choice? Part of the reason that was my field of choice was because my mom pushed me into it. The subjects well: Biology was fun because my dad used to take me down to where he went hunting and I'd get to hike by myself and I'm kind of a nature freak. Algebra I like because everything seems like a puzzle. English- well in my english classes we always did a lot of creative writing and that was always fun. Spanish- well I need to take that over again or maybe Italian because being bi-lingual helps in my line of work 4. What's your ideal job along the field you are studying? I'm looking for more realistic answers. If anybody says they want to be a candy man when they grow up i will be uber pissed! Well I'm not back in school yet. But by next year I hope to go take my CNA class. Right now I only have my HHA license for New York State. That way I can make some more money and I have more options. Heck I can even take my boyfriend's mom up on her offer and move to Canada. So given the certification and the license one would assume that my career goal is to be a Certified Nursing assistant then move up to get my LPN. This is because I don't fit the requirments to be a jockey. :animeswea 5. Talk about whatever it is that interests you! Why is it so damn interesting? Why'd you choose it, blah blah blah. I've always been good at helping people and I'm a very caring and compassionate person. And I'm pretty good at it so why not continue to make a paying career out of it?

Fifth semester of college, just switched from music ed to mech/civ engineering after finally figuring out what I was doing. I was in music originally because a whole lot of professors told me that doing music and engineering at the same time was impossible, and I didn't want to give up playing. Turns out that this is not the case. Thanks, guys. Engineering now because I enjoy problem-solving and making things work, and because math makes sense to me. I want to be a candy man. I'm interested in Truth and people who use the brains in their heads. I also write and enjoy ensemble setting where I can play trombone.
