Voting | Week 004

This is the voting thread for Week 003, where all members of the OtakuBoards community are welcome and encouraged to join and vote for their favorite banner for the week.

The theme for this week was Money.

Voting will be taking place until Friday October 03, 2008 @ 11:59 PM PDT. The next SOTW contest will begin shortly after that date.

A few notes before voting

We encourage you to [strike]both vote in the poll and[/strike] reply with a post stating who you voted for and why. In the post you can let the participant know what you liked, didn't like and in the latter case, how they could improve. For further information, please read the Art Studio Basics thread, on Constructive Criticism.

Remember, this is a banner contest. Therefor, please do not vote for someone because you like the person so much, but instead vote for someone because you like the banner over the other banners.

When voting, you're asked to also look at how well the banner fits the theme. In this case the theme is Money. It is quite broad, so who was most creative with this theme?
Without further ado, here are the entries for this week's Signature of the Week!

Out of the two I like the overall color scheme and saying in Jeremy's work the best. I may not have liked the font, but the placing of the words was in my opinion, nicely done. Cat's piece was also well done, but it seemed to lack something to give it a finishing touch. I'm not a graphic artist so I'm not sure what was missing. Maybe something like a saying to give it a focus? Anyway, in the end I vote for Jeremy.

Cat - I like the green colors in your work in addition to the nice border you gave it. I don't like how it doesn't seem to have any direction though. Like something in there to focus on or a saying.

Jeremy - I really like the warm colors to your piece and the saying and placement of the words is very nifty. I don't like how it seems to lack a border. Or if it has one, I'm just not seeing it. o_O

Both pieces are nicely done and my vote goes to Jeremy.

I dunno if anyone realises this, but Cat's banner has people an animals made out of money on it. That's what the oddball shapes are supposed to be.

Maybe for this one, Cat, you should have used a background color/texture that didn't blend quite so well with the foreground images, because recognizing the animals wasn't exactly the easiest thing in the world. Clever idea, but I think you went a bit far on the camouflage angle.

Voted for ya anyway, since I thought that idea was really clever and because the phrase on Jeremy's (root of all evil) is fundamentally incorrect.

I keep in mind color and texture next time. It seems that some of my flaws are getting the background to match the foreground without blending them in. Practice makes perfect, thanks for the critic. I work on trying to fine sayings or quotes that work for my future graphics. Thanks for the critic.

Cat: The blending and colors look nice, though like Allamorph said, the blending does make seeing what the money images really are a bit hard.

Jeremy: The colors and saying are fun, but to be honest, I don't really like the saying since it's overused. It is visually pleasing to look at though.

I think I'm going to give my vote to Cat. I'd give more critique, but others have beat me to some of it so It seems pointless to repeat it.

The actual proverb reads "love of money is the root of all evil". Money itself is quite obviously incapable of being anything but neutral; the good or evil is in how it is used.

So yeah, since I was pretty well split on my call, I felt the indistinct images was less of a problem than false advertising, if you will. :p

sunfalle, thanks for the critique, though you know sigs don't really have to have borders : p
Oh I know, it's just something I notice since I like a border, even it it's a simple one. If I don't have one on my own banners, it drives me nuts until I fix it. o_O Don't know why.
