Obsessions

Recently me and Tetra of Sound had a debate over which video game/ anime character was the coolest. That got me wondering: I wonder if some people actually obssess over games for real? So, here's my question, what video games do you obsess over so much that you must have every installment of that game? That you know everything about the video game and its characters? And Tetra, still, Hwoarang is better than your Kakashi.:catgirl:

Well I guess you could say I used to have an obsession with a series. I followed the Final Fantasy series avidly. That is until they started throwing chinks in it. First it was Final Fantasy tactics, yes I know most people loved it I just didn't. I got back on track, downloaded the Japan entries that didn't make it to the states.

They ruined everything for me when they brought out FF XI that you had to play online. It should've been it's own like FF tactics then I would've stuck with it. So now I'm sort've blah about it.

That's really the only series I've been "obsessed" with.

I guess my "Obsession" would be DDR. I've played the game for several years and own every PS2 console Version from DDR MAX2 and up (Still have yet to pick up Max 1). I play the game mostly at arcades, however. The home versions are very nice, but my pad isn't up to snuff with DDR pads in the arcade. I do have most of the soundtracks from 4th mix all the way to the most current mixes. So yeah, I guess you could say I'm obsessed with DDR. Enough to make a Youtube Page showing off my DDR talent. Shamless plug? Perhaps. But when have I ever been one to show any sort of shame?

Guest Crimson Spider
I will go through random moments in which I will obsess with a game. Not just playing all of the sequels, but to the point where I can't put it down.

The earliest one I remember was Star Fox 64. I became obsessed with that game because it was a very troubled time in my life, where I would use videogames as an outlet for my aggression. My parents thought that they were making me angry, and tried to stop me from playing games. That didn't work: I stayed angry anyway.

There were a couple of moments, like in Cruising the U.S.A. (another game), where I would completely flip out due to the difficulty. Eventually I became so good at games that they became an adequate method to bleed out my troubles, because I had better control over them.

Now, as far as fandom goes, there were three things that got me hooked for a substantial amount of time: Pokémon, Yugioh, and Duel Masters. Pokémon, the biggest one. I own and have docked hundreds of hours on Pokémon Yellow, Gold, Stadium, Sapphire, and Pearl. Though now I go through moods when I want to play the games, but usually whenever they release a new one, I'm first in line to pick it up.

It's not so much an obsession as much as it's basically one of my favorite game series of all time.

The Legacy of Kain

The story is so rife with fantasy, betrayal, time traveling, and even the butterfly effect. The voice acting is excellent and the characters are highly likable. Kain? Greatest vampire ever created.

Not only do I own every single installment, even as far back as Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen on the PS1, I have action figures of both Kain and Raziel alike.

I guess this counts for this discussion, although I'm obsessed with the franchise as a whole, not just the games.

".hack"

Yes, I own all the original four games (Infection, Mutation, Outbreak, Quarantine; usually shortened to IMOQ) and the most recent G.U. titles (Rebirth, Reminisce, Redemption). Yes, I actually finished all the IMOQ games, and I become quite sad when I hear people never finished Quarantine because it's honestly one of the most touching endings for anything I've ever seen. Yes, I enjoyed Redemption even though the game was rather underdeveloped, although I chalk that up to Shino finally becoming a playable character in that installment and I'm extremely obsessed with her.
I'm certainly obsessed enough to know all the basics of the storyline and I would even say a good amount of the more obscure facts. It helps that I follow not just the games but the anime series, various novel and manga releases, soundtracks, etc etc.

Oh, and for those who want to know more about .hack or really anything concering the .hack universe, just go to the .hack wiki.
