Raiha
Either wear shoes meant for martial arts or tape your toes together. You'll break them most definitely on any variety of surfaces. Remember to stretch out your knees and joints because with tae-kwon-do, those will be the first to go. Always respect your teachers and those higher ranked than you even if they are complete jerks. Learn the proper way to kneel for hours on end without letting your legs go to sleep. It'll come in handy at ceremonies.

Lunar
For your information, it has videos instructing you how to do. besides......it's not permanent, i'm curious about it and i'm doing school online, too, so i'm used to it.:catgirl:
The Spectacular Professor
Video martial arts. ... ........ ............ Not seeing it. Anyway, the only way to actually get good at this kind of thing is to get yourself an instructor, IMO. You just can't get the kind of hands-on training from watching a recording (Tae Bo doesn't help in a fight and is basically there for exercise purposes, so it doesn't count.) Besides, who's gonna [strike]pound your head in[/strike] let you know when you're making a mistake? Also, this is from someone who also takes online school courses.
Lunar
Again. I'm not really using as self defense(i can defend myself very well) just an assignment. :catgirl: as for the pounding in heads..........i'll do it myself!
chibi-master
Video martial arts. ... ........ ............ Not seeing it.
Same here, man. Same here. Anyway, since you're doing it online, I suppose the best advice is too stretch and pay close attention.

SaiyanPrincessX
I take Taekwondo. Online martial arts, thats a new one. I prefer the actuall training, but I understand your doing this as school work so whatever floats your boat. Your going to have to pay close attention to fully understand the correct way to perform certain techniques and kicks, seeing as its online and not in person. I would find it hard to learn that way as a beginner. As someone who has taken it for a while I could probebly pick up on things much quicker. Obviously stretch good. Its hard giving advise for this kind of online class. Tell us more about it and maybe we could be of more help. :/
Lunar
okay. basically, they record the moves on video and show you step by step how to do it. first they do it slow, then medium, and at full speed.
Drizzt Do'urden
Hmm....I think its sort've interesting myself. Tae-Kwon-do is a pretty mild martial art, not saying its not a workout rather its just less intense as say brazilian jujitsu or muay thai. So the thought of doing it in your room, or in a smaller space is feezable. I am curious as to why you picked that though? It would seem to me that something like tae-bo or some sort've aerobics would be a better fit for just "working out". With them you have a solid workout, not a lot of slowing down to show you moves like there would have to be with Video Tae-Kwon-Do. Hmm, I know you were asking for advice but I wouldn't even have a clue, keep us filled in on how it goes. I'm really interested in this.
Lunar
Yeesh. Must i tell you? my favorite video game character does it. ^_^ i'm gonna do it my living room. it's really big. it's fun and another choice could be capoeria.............. i already do a ALOT of cardio, so i just need to work different muscles.:catgirl: by the way, who knew how many belts you have to get until a freakin' black belt!?
SaiyanPrincessX
I've always wanted to try Capoeria, but sadly there is nothing near me. As for belts, it depends on the school. Almost every school is diffrent when it comes to the belt ranking system. In some schools it will take longer for you to achieve your black belt than others aswell. At my school it goesas follows: - White belt - White with yellow stripe - Yellow - Orange - Green - Purple - Blue - Brown - Red - Red with black stripe - Black belt (1st Dan) You have to be picky when it comes to choosing a school, a lot of places are more out for your money rather than teaching you anything useful. Those would be called 'Mcdojos', or in Taekwondo terms 'Mcdojangs'.
Lunar
lol. mcdojo......funny. anyways, there's two black belts for mine. Oh, yeah, I'm taking up kickboxing, too. it's kinda hard to find the good tae kwon do stuff, but i still found it. kickboxing's more interesting.
Dragon Warrior
I'm going to be beating a dead horse here by basically regurgitating pretty much what the others have said, but as far as Tae Kwon Do, Kick Boxing, and most any form of martial arts or elaborate workout system, you really won't get far doing it online. I'm not even sure why your school has that as a course. I'm assuming it's for those possibly curious about it, but not expecting to become particularly good at it. You may be doing it for exercise reasons or getting a grade, but I think you won't benefit much from simply watching some videos, even if attempting to just get some workouts in. I've done a bit of martial arts for fun myself, and we had to watch videos in the classes on the stuff, but there was no way we got anywhere just imitating what was on the screen. My suggestion is find an actual exercise program (weight workout is always number one ;]) or if you're actually passionate about martial arts (because of a video game character or whatever!), find a real teacher. Don't trust those online courses. :]

A video might at least get you familiar with the idea, but I don't see it actually teaching you very well. You're doing it for fun so that probably makes it different, but if you ever want to get more serious about it. I'd go and take real classes instead. Dragon Warrior
Well, even so, you said you're doing it for the exercise as well, but you won't benefit much from something like Tae Kwon Do online. Either way, do what you like and good luck :]
