What draws you?

I know we have an area for new people to introduce themselves already, but I'm wondering what draws you to Otakuboards. Not just what drew you to start posting, but what keeps you coming back?

For me another member turned me onto the boards during a bad time in my life. I haven't talked to her in ages, but Athena got me to start posting. We were in tech-school just after basic training and I was about as low as could be. She told me about the RP aspect of the boards and before I knew it I was hooked.

What keeps me coming back? It's more than just the RP or the stories in the anthology. On Otaku there's no Tabu subject, you can talk about anything with great people. Sure you get your dissagreements, but you can have a drag out fight with someone on one subject, and then turn around and be on their side on another. It's a truly remarkable thing!

I first found otakuboards through the theotaku site. as for how i got there, i think it was a link for something else i was looking at. i dunno:animeswea
i didn't know anything about the site, i didn't even know what an rpg was. ah, those were the days. what keeps me coming back(besides the fact that people can see my writing) is the ability to debate. yes, debating is a pasttime for me, if you hadn't noticed..........anyway, i have chibi-master to talk to and she's a totally awesome person. i get to talk about video games and find out what kind of anime's out. also, i get to make totally awesome threads, have totally awesome sigs, and totally awesome custom titles. I think i heard a transformer bug fly by.............anyway, that's basically it. except for this one thing: I LOVE THE SMILIES!!!!!!!!:animesmil

A few years ago, I was bored & cured my boredom by finding riddles online, & my search brought me to the OB.
I have pretty much only posted in the Lounge. Like... ever. I think I've posted in the movies/music/TV topics a few times perhaps, but that's about it.
Because of OB, I became friends with James (Mr. Maul) IRL. That's kinda neat.
I don't come back too often anymore because, to be honest, the Lounge has been kind of dead since... eh, about a year ago or so.
But I suppose I just like seeing how this place has evolved. It's kinda neat.

Yep.

Oh man I was going to do this thread! I had it all thought out when I went out then poof! Thread Stealer!:animecry:

I know how I got here, there was a site called Trouble Makers and All Things Naughty that had a messageboard which I'd joined in '99 while I was in college. It was a fun site mainly based on Sailor Moon villains but they talked about other things too- and once Otakuboards came up in a discussion about a site called Christian Anime Alliance. I clicked the link and joined the fun here.

I got here in late '03 whenI was married and living in Texas- I believe it was November so I've been here almost five years! Whoa... yeah. So I've been here through four different stages in my life:
marriage- extremely boring at times, but hey I was happy so I talked about it a lot and you all were nice enough to listen.

pregnancy-I was happy and sick and tired and pukey and the baby daddy was in Iraq at the time and you all were nice enough to listen. .

Divorce- It's like being kicked in the stomach repeatedly by someone wearing really ugly steel toed boots. But even though I started to lay off my posts by then, but you all were there for that awkward two years of hell. More or less .

New Boyfriend- This is why I'm annoying right now. BUt I'm happy that I finally came back
Man five years, also a few different jobs from assembly, to packaging to fast food to cleaning planes and now I'm in health care. Wee!

I don't know why I keep coming back. I think it's the combination of intelligent conversation (yes we have that) Mods that listen and don't over mod (I've been on 4Kids- worst messageboard evah! Though I did meet some decent people there too)And the fact that everyone is pretty cool here with their own quirks. But mostly the discussions, nothing is off limits here which is cool If someone wants to start a thread on underwear we can do that, Homosexuality done, DDR on it, Our favorite cereal... yeah it's here somewhere. We're a very diverse group. :catgirl:

Right now I still talk on AIM to Morpheus, but everyone else eh I guess not as much. Don't be shy, I talk a lot... I'm just friggin' shy myself.

I came across theotaku.com when i was in middle school. That was between 8-12 years ago. That sounds pretty crazy to me. To think i found this place around a decade ago and still come here is absurd. Of all the things i used to do when i was that age coming here is one of them. Other things on that small list include eating, pooping, cutting my fingernails, mastur....errrrr :o I think you guys get the idea.

I came across theotaku through a search engine. I was looking for pictures of Dragon Ball Z so i could print them out and draw them in my little sketch pad. I haven't drawn things like that for fun in a very long time. Actually, i think my first real DBZ drawing was of a fanart that another person posted on theotaku. The funny thing is that the drawing wasn't even a very good one!

From theotaku i found myotaku and from that i found otakuboards.

The reason i keep coming back to OB is because of the quality of posts on the boards. A lot of other boards have really crappy one sentence posts. When i'm looking for a response i'm looking for something more indepth than, "U R dumer than shet!" Even though i appreciate some aspects of moderating on this site, others bother me. Mainly the censorship. But that's a discussion for a different time.

Wow I think I'm one of the seniors here as well, it was a long time ago before the boards were ever even started and it was a chat room where everyone could go and talk about all sorts of things. It was cool, I miss it some times I met some good friends in there but what keeps me coming back is the new ideas everyone keeps coming out with and then every now and again I'll have one pop into my head and put it down and some think its good and others don't but people still join or just look, and that's what I love about this place is you can put your ideas down and let your imagination run wild and people are right there with you running down the street toilet papering house with you and laughing about it too. Its awesome. That and every one here, everyone here is so cool, though I may not get along with all of them its the fact that so many people are on here and more join every single day, its amazing. Just the hype is enough to keep me coming back but I have to say its just the over all freedom of imagination that I love.

Well welcome to the group... boards... eh yeah. Hey how did your girlfriend manage to make you post? I'm trying to get my boyfriend to particpate and I haven't had much luck yet. She didn't hog tie ya did she?

Oh man who remembers the old labeling way back in the day? I think I got up to no life before they changed the versions.

Well, my friend told me about the site! She wasn't a member yet (wasn't 13 yet, but I had become 13 a few months back!). Anyway, it was a snowy, boring day and I decided to look it up. I loved it and joined within three minutes.

I come back because I love you guys! Yeah, I suppose the threads and everything play some part in it, but I mostly come back because I like you guys better than a lot of the people I know. You're all just awesome and I admire so many of ya'! *hugs every member*:catgirl:

Surprisingly, no. I was asking her about it earlier, and she was actually startled at the news, so it was probably just a spur-o'-th'-moment deal.
Congratulations, Indi. Finally got 'im around.
Well, uhh, I work here. So I kinda stay around for that. Plus, you know, there's some good cut-up threads here and every now and again something worth talking about, and I have a project or two going in the Theater....

....although I dunno what kind of censorship is going on. (RHETORICAL STATEMENT DO NOT RESPOND)

I'll have to come back to that when I have more time to actually read it. Also...

Aha! I finally put the connection together. You're the one responsible for that white cat plushie right? The one the others got for her back in July at a fellow member's request, when she was in that accident. Though if you're not, I'm going to feel kind of stupid.

So persistance pays off?

So maybe if I keep bringing it up and continue to mention that maybe just maybe he can get some more advice (which he never hesitates to give- seriously never call him when you just want to vent) on dealing with college professors or who knows what and meet more people who are into drawing design and computer animation since our group of friends doesn't do that. Maybe then he'll start reposting again eh?

The first time I came to theotaku was back when it had a Pokémon section that had more than just cheats. Of course, I came for the cheats, too, but eventually I was linked to the forum. It was there that I went to the Pokémon section (there were sections back then) and discovered an area where people would talk about Pokémon, doing more than just saying "Hey, do you have such and such card? OMG such and such card rocks! I have three holofoil!". This was also where I encountered my first Pokémon rating center. It was that center which tailored me into becoming as good as I did at Pokémon, even though that was way back in the past.

One day, I joined up several years later. I think the first post I ever made was on Feebas. I eventually became very active on the forums.

One day, I happened upon a debate in the lounge. Someone said something that I didn't like, so I responded. He responded, then I responded. It went back and forth like that. Soon, I was an active participant in all of the arguments/debates, though my manners and tactics were wild and unrefined.

As with all things, I became bored. When the forums were updated so there was no longer a Pokémon section, I left eventually. I just got sick of fighting.

Many years later, I suddenly have the urge to come to forums again. Mainly because I have the urge to debate and discuss things. The other forums I went to, they just weren't up to par with this one. I was more intelligent and more refined, so I came back here.

Stuff like that would come up in the standard, what have you been up to, conversations that tend to crop up when you haven't seen one another for a day or two. There was never any real push to get me to join. Which is probably why it took over six months for me to get around to it.

Anyway, what drew me here was curiosity and then even more for questions, which got answered. That of course just lead to talking to you weirdos and then making friends. So now, I stick around. o_O Oh and I suppose the fact that I also work here keeps me around too.
