Rachmaninoff
When I saw this article here: What do you do about post-election blues? I have to admit it initially surprised me. Probably because other than to notice who wins in an election, I've never considered it a major factor in determining my own happiness. I do remember feeling disappointed in the first election I voted in since the party I voted for lost, but nothing like what some of the people in that article are describing. So that got me wondering if anyone around here actually had profound changes in how they felt after the election ended. Personally I was rather thrilled since it's the first time a candidate I backed actually won. That was pretty much it though, nothing else. Because like it says here in the article:
"If people want changes, they can do that in their day-to-day lives. They don't need a candidate to do that."
In the end, I've never considered an election, of any kind, to be the driving force for change in my own life. So, what about the rest of you? SaiyanPrincessX
Post-election blues? Yes indeed. But its because I didn't vote for him, obviously. Actually, its not only that. I'm so incredibly tired of hearing about the freakin election all the time. I couldn't wait for it to be over, so all fifty-thousand ads I get in the mail everyday, about this or that would stop. Plus all the talk on television and whatnot. Now that its over I still hear about it contantly, even on the boards. I know its a big deal, but I'm just fed up with it. TimeChaser
I've got nothing to blue about, since this was the first time the candidate of my party won since I started voting. And if anything, I think I'll feel a bit less stressed knowing the country won't continue to be steered in the direction of "totally tanking". chibi-master
why...Why...WHY?! Why won't the election crap stop and get of my frickin' T.V.?! Like SaiyanPrincessX said, I'm fed up with the election...and even though it's over, it continues to be one of the big topics of today... All this election stuff is making my stomach ill...does that count as post-election blues?
SunfallE
The thing that keeps me from getting fed up or sick of it or feeling out of sorts in regards to the election, is staying informed. If I know what's going on, then it's pretty easy to tune things out and focus on other stuff. So in the end, win or lose, it makes little impact on my day to day life. That or I've been around for enough elections that I no longer get worked up over them. This made the seventh presidential election for me (where I could actually vote that is, not the first that I actually remember) so it's lost all the hype that it use to have. I still enjoy being a part of it, but it's ceased to have the same power to get on my nerves that it once had.
Rachmaninoff
Actually, its not only that. I'm so incredibly tired of hearing about the freakin election all the time.
That's what I figured, that it was really more of people ready to move on and being subjected to it by others continually bringing it up. Much like this thread. Though that wasn't really my intent. o_O
All this election stuff is making my stomach ill...does that count as post-election blues?
Possibly, I can't say it's had that kind of effect on me but then I get so busy with other things in my life that when it does crop up, it's just a tiny part of my day instead of running into it all the time. Anyway, thanks for the input, especially since both of you are sick of the whole deal. So I'm sure you looked at this thread and just groaned at yet another election thing. @Beth: Apathy for the win? =P
Sabrina
It's probably because it was the first presidential election I was old enough to vote for, but I didn't experience any of the "I'm sick of it" or "I'm depressed over it" stages that article talked about. It was just fun to finally get to be a part of it, even if it was a bit crazy and time consuming to follow. o_O Or it could be the fact that most of my attention went to school so once I read up on any polls or news, I immediately went back to school work. Which left me no time to get annoyed or worry over stuff. Well other than grades, papers, etc. XD
Sangome
I'm just tired of people rubbing it in. Yeah, okay, I got it. Barack Obama won. No, I didn't vote for him. Stop giving me grief. I've pretty much gotten over that he won. I'm just annoyed at the legion of teenage fanbrats that won't shut the heck up already. Seriously. Grow up. ...I guess that's just a more irate reason similar to "I'm tired of seeing it on TV". Except these are people I know that like rubbing it in. :|
Nony
I'll have to put my lot in with 'Gome here. Honestly, I'm not so much upset at Obama winning as I am at the fanatics who keep going on about it. Plus, I have a great story about my sister being in England, and upon striking up a conversation with an older black man which inevitably led to politics which eventually ended in him calling her a racist for no bloody good reason. Stories like that are what piss me off and make me wish we could just move on and start uniting for goodness' sakes. The only comfort has been in South Park's genius lampoon of the whole ordeal.
