Discuss The Company (Heroes)

[FONT="Tahoma"][COLOR="DimGray"]So, I've been watching a lot of Heroes lately. Season 3 has more than made up for Season 2 and I'm excited for Monday every week once again. I know there have been [i]a lot[/i] of "super hero" RPs on OB (especially recently) but I'd like to be part of one that is actually going somewhere.

First, I need to know if anyone would even be interested in doing an RP based off the show.

I was thinking that we could RP the early days of the company (maybe even the creation of it). If you don't watch the show, the Company is an organization started by a group of people with and without abilities devoted to hiding the truth from the world.

In the beginning only a few of us would be part of the company. The RP will start with an eclipse so everyone will be discovering their powers at once. After a while those of us in the company would gather everyone together and tell them what's happening. Then the story would really pick up and that's where your creative freedom comes in.

The idea is to have a bunch of heroes that are in no way connected and have them slowly meet up either through the actions of the company or some greater force. Once we're all together the real action would begin.

What do you think? I know there are a bunch of Heroes fans here and I want this to be perfect to the point that everyone can enjoy it. C&C?[/COLOR][/FONT]

[SIZE=1]I've actually been having some similar ideas recently, and I've been watching Heroes avidly since the beginning. So, in short, I'd be well up for joining in, or even helping you in the creation of the RP.

I think it'd be really good to take the good parts of Heroes (the morally grey Company agents, the struggles with powers etc) and remove the bad ones (the way they never let anybody freaking [I]die[/I]), and I reckon with those elements mixed around and changed, it could be a really cool RP to play.

It could also be quite different to a lot of superhero RPs, because the Company are essentially the "bad guys," so it'd be an interesting new perspective.

However, I think you'd run into a metaphorical minefield trying to RP the creation of the Company - there's so much we don't know about the foundation of the organisation that it'd be difficult to make up a plot that doesn't tread on the toes of what story already exists. However, playing through the early days of the Company (perhaps exploring the reasons and origin behind the "one of us, one of them" rule and the like) would be good

Also, you'd have to put a limit on powers, because having someone with empathic mimicry like Peter would be on the verge of god-modding. You don't want one selfish S.O.B running around with [I]all [/I]the powers.

But anyway, I'd be happy to talk this idea over with you, Lrb, if you fancy it. I'm on AIM and MSN so you can usually catch me on either of those.

I am also an avid Heroes fan... And I'm also just a comic book freak in general. If it weren't the rather poor response to a lot of classic superhero RPs I would have already created one. But I love the idea!!! The company is something that I've always had my share of questions on so I wouldn't mind that at all... And actually playing a Company Agent would be way fun...

However, I don't think there's a whole lot left to be covered with Heroes' Company simply because according to a rumor I heard about Heroes, they're completely separating from that story arc after this season. (Which was practically confirmed when NBC fired the executive producing duo of Loeb and Alexander)

Not to mention that only two founders are still alive in the story, and I'm willing to bet that one or both of them will die by the end of the season. So I wouldn't worry about contradicting whatever little story the creators have behind the company.

But I have a question: If we explored the creation of the Company, or the early days, would the existing Heroes characters who worked for the company [Maury Parkman, Angela Petrelli, Adam Monroe, etc...] cameo? Or would it be like an alternate time line Company?

I'm glad to see there are more Heroes fans than I thought here. :^D

The Petrilli's, Mr. Parkman, Linderman, and Monroe could all make cameos if we want. I think that would be really cool, actually. We could even have Future Hiro make a cameo or something.

As for the company, we can go off what we know for sure about them. It was created to hide the abilities from the world. They stop villains with abilities from abusing their powers and they've experimented on powerless good people to give them abilities.

To make things easy, all of our characters would sort of be "grunts" for the company following orders from a ominous voice kind of thing. For the beginning anyway.

Obviously there will be a lot of diversity in the characters. We could have people who were given powers, those who just discovered them and those who don't want them or alternatively those who don't have powers but want them (that would make for a good villain, actually).

I was hoping the company would be playing a behind the curtains role in this while we do whatever we want. I want the characters to be pretty different with a mix of good and bad, powerful and powerless characters. How does this look for a sign-up sheet?

Also, if you guys want to work on this with me, that's awesome. Perhaps one of you could write up a prologue of sorts and post it here for us to talk about.

Like, a "Good" character would honestly believe that trapping Evolved Humans and keeping them detained was the right thing to do, a "Bad" character would just be in it for the violence and personal gain, and an "Unsure" would be tormented by the moral ambiguity of what his job entails?

Otherwise, like I said, that sign-up sheet looks great. I can't think of anything else that needs to be added, but if I can think of something, I'll post it. If there's any other way I can help, let me know. =D[/FONT]

If it's five years since the Company was founded (in 1977), and also that would mean that Adam has been locked up for five years, so that probably rules him out for a cameo, right? I mean, if we're playing "grunts," I somehow doubt the Company would let mere underlings like ourselves in on their dirty little secret. Perhaps I'm looking into this too much, though.

The sign-up sheet does look good, but I agree with Omega - the alignment should surely have something to do with whether you're a part of the Company or not, at least at first. "Good," "Bad," and "Unsure" doesn't give a whole lot of detail, in my opinion.

However, everything else looks good. I've got a day off today, so I could write up a prologue of sorts and either post it here or PM it you personally, Lrb. I'm thinking it could have something to do with the eclipse and people discovering abilities, some good, some bad, and the shadowy Company heads pledging to find them.

So at the beginning there will be those of us that are in the company and others doing their own thing. Eventually we will all meet up (hero or villain) under the company and things will really get moving.

That sounds awesome, go for it! When you're done you might as well PM it to me and I'll give it the final okay. If we're lucky we can get this RP up tonight! Just remember (as it seems you have) that primarily, everything revolves around the eclipse (but nobody really knows that). Otherwise the story has mostly to do with the neutral Company (I say neutral because that's how I personally see them) and anything they do. About that, I was thinking when it comes down to a good guy versus a bad guy it could be rock paper scissors or something and then the winner makes the winning post. We could also make a seperate spar thread where 3 posts and a judge make the call. What do you think?

When you win you wouldn't kill the other person but it will have an effect on them in some way or another. Maybe we can have a "scar" system where when you lose a fight against someone their power is scarred on you somehow. i.e. If I lost to you, my character would have heat lashes all over his body which would incapacitate him for a little bit in the RP. Thoughts?

Also what do you guys think about having character portraits (see: [url=http://www.otakuboards.com/showthread.php?t=59080&highlight=von+braun]Von Braun Odyssey[/url])? Let me try and convince you:

[SIZE=1]I'm definitely a fan of the "scar" system - I think it definitely adds a little something to the fighting in the RP. As for how the fighting should go down, of the two things you suggested I think the spar thread would be the more sensible. You could make a single thread for all the different fights and just get the people involved to post the name of the fight (ie "Gray vs Leon" etc.) at the top of the first post. Obviously that would mean there couldn't be more than one fight going on at a time, so I suppose in that sense multiple "fight" threads would make more sense.

I also like the idea of the character portraits - I'll try and find a picture approximating my character's appearance and post it either here or in the Auditions thread.

Rock, Paper, Scissors wouldn't be as fun when it comes to spar, but 3 posts and a judge might take too long. I would say one post each (from each person in the spar) and then all the members of the RP would vote. (Majority wins and makes the 3rd and final post)

And I've always loved character portraits. They're fun... So I'm definitely down with that! And don't worry about the art program. The ones you made look fine to me, but whatever.

I agree wholeheartedly on the spars taking place in multiple separate threads, but I don't think 1 post per character is sufficient- at least not in every occasion. I mean, maybe one character decides to enter into a brief altercation with another, as a distraction or something, and then 1 post each would make sense-- sort of like a hit and run. On the other hand, maybe a character (say, the Endless) is specifically hunting another character, and is thus removed from the events of the RP itself anyways. Then, I think 3 posts each makes a little more sense.

[SIZE=1]Perhaps the "brief altercations" as you so beautifully put it could take place in the main thread, and last one or two posts, or however long or short they may be. To think of an example from the show, like Peter and Sylar having a rumble in Primatech before Peter went to see Arthur.

For the more "epic" battles, we could switch into the spar thread, and they could last a few posts each. I guess the length and number of posts could be fairly fluid, altering depending on the seriousness of the fight.

I don't know if this would make things too complicated, but it's just what I was thinking.

I'm still ready to start the RP, but if I have to wait too much longer, I might get too overloaded. As it is right now, I'm trying to finish up the Von Braun Odyssey. I'm also in Mr. Blond's RP, and I've been thinking of joining the 2nd Almagest Legacy RP... I don't want to have 3 RPs going at the same time (seeing that I get stressed out writing for just two) so I need to know if this is still in the makings or what.

I'm just going to change his motives and his background - his alignment, name, physical description and powers will remain the same. I just think the whole "wants to kill all humans" thing is a little one-dimensional, and I want to allow the character to grow throughout the RP.

I hope this will be ok, Lrb. I'll wait until you've let me know one way or another before I change anything. I'm also going to try and find a suitable picture for him so we can go ahead with the character portraits idea.
