Alright, you all can blame this thread on Allamorph. =P I hadn't even noticed this paticular deal until he mentioned it. So take a look to see what it's about.

Apparently, according to the article, Americans think we pay too much in taxes. If the data is correct, the irony of this is that the percentage being taken has gone down over the years, not up.

So what are your thoughts on this? I hadn't even heard of it and I don't feel like I'm being over taxed so I don't plan on joining those protesting.

It has gone up, but since most Americans categorically have no freaking clue what tax rates are as opposed to taxes themselves, I won't bother explaining the ups and downs of it except to say that we at one point were taxed 30%. That's now up to 55% in many cases with the rich paying an unfair amount of taxes compared to the poor. Look up what the Death Tax is and then get back to me on how fair it is to tax someone's assets that they paid taxes for while living after they've already kicked.

There's a Tea Party in my area that I'm going to personally if only to skip out on one of my fiction classes in the evening, but also to show solidarity with my fellow right wing and moderate left wing bigots. "If 10 % is good enough for Jesus, well it ought to be enough for Uncle Sam."

And no, this has less to do with Obama than you think. I'd be protesting regardless unless Obama or someone else was lowering the tax rates more than George Bush did and then locking that rate in for the next eternity or so. I feel I am definitely being overtaxed because I look at every paycheck I get from my evil stockholder boss and see the Federal Withholding. I'm paying for everything these days from someone's foodstamps turned to alcohol to an electric eel farm in Sutton. And quite frankly I'm tired of my tax dollars funding that sort of flimflam when it could be going towards my hard working policemen, firefighters, servicemen, and the Coast Guard.

There are innumerable other reasons why I feel I'm being dicked out of my hard earned money but that's a long and sore subject. But the reason most of you haven't heard of this phenomena which is in fact gaining a lot of momentum nationally is quite frankly because the media does not want to support or draw attention to something that isn't anti-war, anti-Bush, or anti-Something More Trendy and Sexy.

I'm not familiar with it and I'm not going to join the protest. I need to know more about taxes before I agree with the sentiment that we are being overtaxed. I'll find out soon enough since I have to take some classes on this kind of thing. =_= I hate Math.
