Raiha
Okay, it's been out for awhile, time to talk about UP. My new most favorite Pixar movie. Evar. More than the Incredibles. More than Toy Story 2. It has a Japanese voice actor, and the man who did the voices of Mr. Ray from Finding Nemo and Roz from Monsters Inc. as well as other characters who weren't quite as cool. Coincidentally he's the writer of the entire story, so I figure he was onto something when the best character in the entire movie was created. That character being Dug the Dog. Anyway the movie. I won't use the spoiler tags to tell you the main thing about the film aside from the part where some bits of it were so hilarious I cried laughing. The thing that was the most wonderful for me was the way it was so compelling and emotional, even though it was entirely animated. If you have a soul, you will cry. More than once. I warned you.

She's right though, I cried right along with my fiancee and 9 year old niece *flexes to show some sign of manliness left*. Though I have to stick with Mr. Fredrickson as being my favorite character, just because of everything he goes through. I will say Dug was a fantastic addition to the cast though, and the movie would not have been the same. *Point*
Nony
I can't choose a favorite character, woe is me! Anyway, the movie itself, yeah... It's definitely one of Pixar's best; I think WALL-E was better, but this was pretty damn good too. I was certainly expecting to laugh, which I did, but I was not prepared to get all choked up at certain parts. Heck, I'll buy it when it comes out on DVD. 'Tis worth it. By the way, a question for y'all: When you went and saw Up, did you watch it in 3D (with the 3D Fredricksen-like glasses) or was it just normal? 'Cause where I am, our theater only has the 3D version, which is kinda limiting for people who have one bad eye. And frankly, I never remembered the movie even making great use of the 3D that often. *shrugs* I dunno.
Nerdsy
I loved this movie. My favorite part was when
the perfectly likable villain feel to his gruesome death. Brutal.
Aside from that, the most striking thing to me was
when [strike]Cosgrove[/strike] Fredricksen struck that man, cracking his head open. There was actual blood; I can't recall the last time I saw that in any animated film (outside of anime, of course). It really stuck out.

This movie is definitely the funniest thing Pixar has come out with. It somehow managed to out-funny A Bug's Life while still managing to deliver a level of depth and genuine emotion that is hard to come by in just about any form of media. I loved every minute. And the transition from laugh-out-loud to misty eyes never felt forced, no matter how fast it happened. Oh, and my favorite character absolutely has to beSQUIRREL ...Dug.
chibi-master
I ADORE this movie! And seeing all the blueprints, sketches and whatnot for it when I was in Disney World made it even better for me! And my favorite character was, of course, Dug! Especially the way he talked!
"OH, PLEASE BE MY PRISONER!"
And yes, my friend and I both cried within the first fifteen minutes of the movie...and later. When the
Kenny bird thing
showed up, she whispered "I want one..." And I had to agree...:animesmil But Dug just MADE that movie for me... Raiha
Oh Nerdsy, can I feel to my death too? I suppose the reason I liked this movie more than Wall-E is because there was no contentiousness in the form of a big message of "Consumerism is bad and this is where it leads." Don't get me wrong, I liked the characters in Wall-E and felt they were well pulled off, but the underlying message of 'THIS IS THE FUTURE YOU FAT AMERICANS' to me wasn't really necessary for a kid's movie. But this isn't about that. This is about loving to death a movie that was simple at its core and didn't have an overarching theme that was rooted in a socio-political message. At least overtly. And no, I saw it in 2-D. My boyfriend and I both get disoriented with 3-D.

The glasses force your eyes to focus on both at the same time, and that causes the 3-D effect. So if you take off the glasses, the image tends to look blurry. That being said, the glasses they gave me at the theater were pretty fantastic compared to the old cardboard ones. These things murdered your eyes like nobody's business. You can barely tell that the lenses are tinted now.

Though, that meant that through the entire movie I was pulling the 3D glasses down over my eyes and then shoving them back up on top of my head, back and forth, back and forth.
