Anime Summer 2009 Anime Season

Damn, these seasons sure go by in a hurry, don't they? It seems like just a short time ago that I posted the spring thread. Yeesh.

Anyway, summer is known as one of the weaker parts of the year for anime, but there are several shows this season that show some good promise, I think. I hope all of them are as good as I hope they will be. Also, I'll try to keep this thread afloat longer than the other two, haha. I've been way too lazy about posting here ...

[b]Series I am definitely interested in:[/b]

-- [URL="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=10805"][b]Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei[/b][/URL]: SZS is by far and away the best comedy series to come from SHAFT/Shinbo. The first season is good, and the second season + the OVA are both great. If it continues on that path, then the third season shall be epic; if not, I am sure it will still be friggin' hilarious. ZETSUBOUSHITA

-- [URL="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=10269"][b]Spice and Wolf II[/b][/URL]: The first season of [b]Spice and Wolf[/b] is not only very good but also different from the usual fare. Its focus on economics is really interesting, and the interplay between Lawrence and Horo is always entertaining. Especially on Horo's end. She is such a great character, with a good amount of depth and many sides to her. The recently released OVA also explores an issue (Lawrence's mortality) that could lead to some awesome stories this season.

-- [URL="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=10704"][b]Tokyo Magnitude 8.0[/b][/URL]: One of my favorite writers, Haruki Murakami, wrote a book called [b]after the quake[/b] that uses short stories to explore the lives of people after the [URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_earthquake"][b]Kobe earthquake[/b][/URL]. I could see this series being similar to that, which could be potentially awesome. Stories that tie together disparate groups of people based on a single influence are great when done correctly. In the hands of BONES, I think this will be done correctly.

-- [URL="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=10196"][b]Bakemonogatari[/b][/URL]: Another pairing of SHAFT + Shinbo? Check. Supposedly excellent, hilarious source material? Check. Hiroshi Kamiya as the lead, and Chiwa Saito, Yui Horie and Takahiro Sakurai along for the ride? Quadruple check. This could be an epic as hell season for SHAFT with this and [b]Zan[/b].

[b]Series I am somewhat interested in watching[/b]:

-- [URL="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=10168"][b]Umineko no Naku Koro ni[/b][/URL]: Down here really only because I like [b]Higurashi[/b] but am not totally in love with it or anything. I can't see myself dropping this, however, especially with the promise that 1) It will definitely be different, and 2) The cast is filled to the brim with heavy hitters, with my boy Daisuke Ono leading the show. Hell yes.

-- [URL="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=10644"][b]Kanamemo[/b][/URL]: I don't expect especially great things from this series, but it could be cute and funny, and that is really enough for me.

-- [URL="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=10270"][b]Canaan[/b][/URL]: Hm, this could be like a poor man's [b]Mnemosyne[/b] (except not as graphic, obviously, haha), and that is enough to capture my interest. Plus, Maaya Sakamoto is playing a badass lead. Count me in.

What is everyone else looking forward to?

I'll probably end up watching some other stuff as well, but the only series that really matters in my head is [b]Aoi Hana[/b]. I'm still baffled at the fact that two of my favorite yuri manga--first Aoi Hana, and later Sasameki Koto--are being made into honest-to-goodness anime. Oh well; I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. Especially not when it's getting directed by the Honey & Clover guy, and may even have an OP sequence done by Kunihiko Ikuhara (who directed Utena!! :animenose).

I am curious about watching SZS, but then that means I need to get around to finishing the rest of it first. I don't know why I didn't. It's a little over the top at times, but still amusing to watch.

Oh and interesting title there Shin, what with the little stars and all. Better hope Lady A doesn't see it, she just might whack you. =P

[SIZE="1"]I'm not sure if I'm going to be watching much, but I might see if I can get back into the anime groove...we'll see.

Either way, there are series I'm interested in. And they are as follows:

[b]Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei[/b] -- Uh, frick yeah? SZS is one of my favorite series ever, and I'm stoked that it's getting a season three. I still need to get off my bum and watch the rest of the OVA, though.

[b]Spice and Wolf II[/b] -- I rather enjoyed season one when we watched it in Anime Club [which makes me happy that season one is also licensed]. I might wait until the entire series is out though, cause I'm not sure it's something I can watch just once of per week, heh.

[b]Hetalia s2[/b] -- I'll also be watching this down the line, as soon as I can get off my duff and catch up with season one. >>;

[b]Umineko No Naku Koro Ni[/b] -- As a rather big fan of Ryukishi07's previous work [Higurashi, which should go without saying], I'm giddy for this one, too. I was rather disappointed by the lack of suspense and all that in Higu-Kai [even though it was the Answer arc], so I'm hoping Umineko returns to the mystery that had me captivated before. Though gore is something I'm growing less and less comfortable around, animated or not, so we'll see how it goes.[/SIZE]

Same here, Rach. I've needed to finish up SZS for months now, so before I could even think of starting Zan I'd have to watch Zoku and Goku first. I like to be chronological like that.

Anyway, based off a glance, I can see at least two series I'll be interested in seeing (eventually). [b]Spice and Wolf II[/b] for sure, even if some of the economic talk flies over my head at times, and then the second season of [b]Hetalia[/b] once I finally catch up with the first season. XP

Since I'm still watching so much from the last season as well as the random eps of Haruhi season 2 when they air. I'm probably only going to pick up [B]Spice and Wolf [/B] season 2. however the synopsis of [B]Bakemonogatari[/B] has piqued my interest from the synopsis and [B] Canaan[/B] may be interesting though I haven't seen a synopsis.

Er.. This season seems quite bland for me. Majority of the anime that's coming out this season looks like it's aimed toward those who're into those "slice of life" type shows, and I don't particularly care for that type. I don't really watch anime online anymore either.. (Due to the spot I usually go to is messed up and I hate going to youtube to watch anime split into parts.) And even then, I was still playing catch up with a lot of series I've yet to see. (Soul Eater basically..)

If there was one show that looks like it can be interesting, it's Cannan. But other than that... Nothing for me.

On the upside though, Gundam 00 season 2 starts this coming Monday (I think)

I'm looking forward to almost everything that's airing this coming season, many for reasons already stated, but no one has mentioned the new[B] Space Adventure Cobra[/B] anime yet! It's one of my favorite old school anime, having been done by The Almighty [B]Osamu Dezaki[/B], and Madhouse who is doing the new one as well. It's sure to be a hell of a time!

By the way, [b]Kanamemo[/b] is freakin' hilarious and has turned into one of my favorites of the season. I recommend it if you like comedy and cuteness.[/color]

As a true fan of Horo, i cannot afford to miss Spice and Wolf II. But Kanamemo sounds interesting, maybe I'll check that one out too.
