Japanese Animation (Anime) does feature a lot of neat stuff for all sorts of viewers, but of course there's more to great animated films and series in the world than just what's produced in Japan.

Regarding the topic of this thread, discuss what you consider are the most awesome animated series/films/features ever produced outside Japan and what do you find makes them great. The works you mention can be from any decade of release, and it does not matter target audience.
God this is hard.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure the Animatrix had both Japanese and American animators, so scratch that one.

Probably Bambi. Best art, best hilarious music, best made up word. Twitterpated.
Phineas and Ferb is one of the most brilliant, witty, fresh and original things on TV right now, period. There's at least one original song per episode, and there hasn't been a bad one yet. They're insanely catchy, too.

And this airs on the same channel as Jonas. Guess it proves that Sturgeon's Law still leaves 10% of everything to be amazing.
That old show Pepper Ann. I loved the hand movements that the characters made!

INVADER ZIM. THAT IS ALL YOU NEED TO LIVE. *epic love*
I ADORED Milo from Pepperann.

Finding Nemo. Wow, that movie is so freakin' epic and the cast was amazing. It was a movie that I sat in and wondered "when is this going to end?" and then "I hope it doesn't!" There were so many trials and tribulations the characters went through, and it also made me laugh so much.

Fish. Heheh.

Pepper Ann was a somewhat odd show but I liked it as well. It wasn't annoying and it was rather amusing.

Also agree with the love of Zim. <3 Really sad it got tossed... But considering the creator of it is the same guy that created Johnny the Homicidal Maniac (personally a big love of mine comics wise) I can't say I'm surprised. In truth he actually hated working with Nick. He basically said every time he had to walk into a giant slime shaped building part of his soul would die off.

Always have loved Batman in pretty much any and all animated ways. I suppose that's mostly because he's always been my fave from DC. But the animation out of any of the shows out there really doesn't bother me any at all. I like seeing new versions of him in shows.

Metalocalypse. Kinda started a little stiff animation wise, to me at least. But i still love the way its animated specially with all the things they put into it just for the show. Random mass murder by means of releasing angry kitties as an act of "charity"... I dunno lol I just love it. :p

Metalocalypse: I love this show cause you can't help but laugh when they try to make some of the strangest things "Metal". Plus, since I already love heavy metal, the comedy just tops the cake.

X-men: This cartoon was all I watched in the 90's for sure! I found a youtube channel where the dude has all the old marvel cartoons up, if you want to know the channel, hit me up via email or PM.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Hey, if you don't like this show, then you have no real sense of humor. :D

Robot Chicken: Seth Green. Nuff said. :P

(Edited due to grammar Nazis. Cause we all know it's a sin to make a typo.)

This is tough. There are a lot of great animated shows/movies made in places other than Japan. Actually, I would say that the only aspect of Japanese animation that I truly find superior is their ability to stick with story structure and end their shows adequately.

Anyway, to answer your question, my favorite animated show right now (favorite show period) is The Venture Brothers. Not only is it a great satire, but it is a tremendously funny show on its own.

It's just so pretty. Plus, the opening (youtube link!) contains scenes taken from a medieval tapestry (wikipedia link!), which is hardcore awesome.

Also, the music is super dramatic.

Well if you wanna be obvious about it lol! Hmmm... A lot of movies I'd mention are ones I liked as a kid and still rather adore now. Though the Triplets I saw in one of my art classes. ^_^

Hmmm it's not really animated in the drawing sort of way but Wallace And Gromit anyone?

Also rather like Persepolis. More mature I think as far as what its about. The animation was interesting though in its own weird way.

Ah man, Brave Little Toaster. I watched that so much when I was little. How I didn't become terrified of some aspects of it, though, I will never know.

And I liked The Iron Giant, though I only ever saw it a couple times, so I don't remember it all that well.

Also:

I don't think I need to say anything.

Quite a few Disney movies, but the main ones I'd really look at these days are Lion King, Mulan, Aladdin and Pocohantas (What? I like the artwork and animation in it). I'm actually tempted to watch some of those again since it's been a long time.

It'll be a crime if I didn't mention Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles considering that I'm an action fan and I grew up watching and collecting everything involving the turtles. I also like that TMNT movie, so yeah.

And then there's X-Men 90's cartoon, Spider-Man 90's cartoon (Although I can't really get into it as much as I used to) Justice League, Batman: TAS, Superman: TAS, X-Men: Evolution (This takes me back) I also liked Darkwing Duck, Mighty Ducks (DARN YOU DXD for removing such great shows for this live action garbage) Gargoyles

I think I've made it well known that I'm no fan of Jack Black, but I liked Kung-Fu Panda a lot. The fighting in that is awesome.

And last but not least.... Two shows that fully has my attention.

I'm a big fan of Brad Bird, who has directed "The Iron Giant," "The Incredibles" and "Ratatouille." I especially love that he wrote, as well as directed, the latter two. I've always had a lot of respect for director/writers.

Without knowing who directed them, my two favorite Pixar films were always Incredibles and Ratatouille. And then I watched Giant, loved it, and realized Bird directed all three. I've since read a lot of articles/interviews with Bird, and it's obvious that he's obsessed with great storytelling over anything else, which I always appreciate.

Which sort of brings up another point. I really like anime and Asian cinema, but I've always thought that, in general, it lacked solid storytelling abilities. The ideas have always been fantastic/original/intriguing, the art directions has always been great, but yeah, to me it lacks great storytelling. I think that's one factor American cinema holds over Asian cinema.

Also, I will always have a soft spot for "The Thief and The Cobber," even though it's sorta crappy tbh. I just watched it ALL THE TIME as a kid. But the animation is really cool?

I was going to mention my favorite American tv shows (Simpsons, Futurama, Venture Bros., Avatar) but got too lazy. But yeah, Venture Bros. is awesome.
