Raiha
Yeah, so it's officially Summer up here in the States and quite frankly the weather has made a very noticeable shift from bearable to slightly less so. The house I live in has excellent cross ventilation, which is just as well because we can not get away with leaving the windows upstairs and downstairs unopened. I can also tell because the weather's shifted because my allergies are finding other ways to make a nuisance of themselves. People are putting up umbrellas in their backyard patio sets. The smell of people's grills abound. I had to shift my closet from all long sleeves to my shirts and blouses that are less likely to cause a dearth of sweat. What is signaling a weather shift where you live? How do you deal with the heat? A/C doesn't count, just for the record. Claire
It's so gross here. Florida is notorious for being both very hot and very humid, which is an awful combination. Walking outside for only five minutes makes me need an immediate shower. I spent a few hours outdoors the other night, and even though the sun had been down for a while I was just drenched. Mostly because of the moisture in the air, though. The thermometer in my mom's van has been reading between 95-101 F lately, though. I don't have very good clothing options to combat heat. Most of my shirts are black because I am super self-conscious about sweat showing (which it will, if I wear lighter colors). But of course, I've heard that black absorbs/traps heat more than any other color, so I'm probably even more hot that way. I need to invest in white clothes, I guess. Florida doesn't really have seasons, though. Winter can get a little chilly if a cold front comes through, but last Christmas I had to wear shorts to bed. Pretty much as soon as it's March, it gets hot again. Then summer is unbearable, even when it rains, and autumn is barely distinguishable. The leaves don't change colors and the weather stays the same. I just spend as much time as possible inside a building. Edited June 7, 2010 by Tonks
OMNOMNOMALY
We've finally had a smattering of summer weather, up north here in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It's been a month of absolute weather chaos. I got back from Vancouver around May 3rd and was greeted with snow. Yep. The white stuff made an appearance. And it stuck around, too, for a bit. Then it went away and was just windy and cold, and then there was some more snow... point of the story being, in a month we went from winter to Summer. Not a lot of time to get used to warmth here... And it's dry dry dry heat when it comes so it usually feels even hotter than it is which is yucky. Once summer is finally in full swing (probably about 2 weeks til that kind of weather sets in) we'll probs have 30+ C weather every day for awhile. When that finally happens, I will hide in my basement like the lurker I am. And have lots of popsicles.
Selene Shri
Well when I'm not inside where the AC is running then I like to have iced lemonade, water or sprite and I wear cotton shirts and shorts since they're not as hot as my other clothing. I also love to go swimming if I can. I love doing that on a really hot day.
Cat
In Tucson, Arizona lately its been up in the in the hundreds. It is currently 8:37pm and according to yahoo weather and the weather channel it is around 95 degrees out. Tomorrow its going to get up to about 105 or higher. We also are going to stay in the hundreds all week from what I gather. Its a little bit better I guess then places who have high humidity cause we have a dry heat. Mostly what I do is stay in doors during the hot parts of the day. When I do need to go some wear I use sunscreen so I won't burn. We don't really open up any windows or even currents. One reason there is rarely any breezes and two the darker the house the cooler it feels. Clothes wise I don't do wear anything special. Just jeans and a tee-shirt. I know Raiha you said A/C doesn't count but its just to easy to over heat without. Besides the A/C we keep the two ceiling fans on in the living room and dinning room. The two ceiling fans in my room and my dads. Plus we have a large regular floor fan in the hall and regular floor my computer room.
chibi-master
I have my AC on 70 F and every ceiling fan in the house on full power. Also, kids at my high school are dropping like weak flies due to the heat. Those are usually pretty good indicators...
The Spectacular Professor
The days in Eastern Washington vary wildly recently. Today was probably the best general example of how it's been working around here lately. I woke up to a Citywide waterfall of a cloud, which lasted about half a day, but then the sky cleared up and I managed to spend most of the 6 o'clock hour playing a completely absurd game of soccer with some of my friends.
Pumpkin
Northern California.........................It's Cali what can I say? I lived in Sacramento for a year and a half and that was the worse heat I ever felt. However my complex had a pool and we would sneak out and go swimming at 2am in the morning which is what we did for my 21st bday. It was really fun. But so far everyone I know goes to the river. I'm lucky to live A] by the ocean now B] The Russian River C] Sonoma Lake and of course thousands of swimming pools. Feeling hot? Those are the places to be =) And anyone who doesn't like to swim. stfugitin2wtrful. Love and kisses!
Korey
I get rain. What the heck... The past few days have been nice though. Around 80 degrees or so and since we live up in the hills, there isn't too much humidity to speak of. It makes it a nice day to go castle hunting or hiking. Wish I had a bike.
Skye
Georgia, usually the most finicky of states in its weather patterns, is actually pretty consistent. Rain maybe once a week, temperatures no lower than 65 and nothing higher than 90 - at least in my area. It gets all muggy and icky, which is why it seems so much hotter than it is. Swimming is always fun, but one of my favorite past times is laying out in the sun in my swimsuit and soaking up some much needed vitamin D. Doing so is a lot cheaper than going to a dermatologist to get professional "UV treatment" for my psoriasis. And much more pleasant. Oh! And we put out tomato plants yesterday. Today it was raining in the morning (luckily for me and my wetlands-trippin' Geology class) but now it's nice and sunny. Nice timing on that. I can say that at least the temperatures are stayin' pretty nice. Around the 70s-80s zone would be my guess. But I imagine it could get hotter as we get further into the summer months. As long as it's not as hot as last year. My good gracious, that was the worst thing ever. Never again, plzkthnx.
chibi-master
Have I mentioned that previously living in Korey's old hometown, I am very amused when I see my science class dying off one by one? Nothing makes my day like someone asking, "WHY THE HELL ARE YOU WEARING A HOODIE AND SCARF?!" I then reply, "Unless I can make breakfast on the hood of a white car at 9 in the morning, it isn't all that hot." RedJ
Ah, North Georgia. The weather is bipolar, as usual during the summer. It can be burning up one day and then feel great the next, and then start raining without warning. And then the sun comes out while it's still raining and thunder can still be heard. Magus
I hate the summer since it leaves me all uncomfortable when trying to sleep. But these days around Detroit it's been rainy and stormy. DeathKnight
Hotter and stickier than a witches' cooter out here. 91 degrees and 70 or 80 percent humidity. Woo. Texas weather, man, hittin' like Georgia weather it seems. I was driving down 410 (local loop highway) with sunlight piercing through my front windshield and the rain coming down in sheets from the cloud situated directly above that section of highway. We also had a wonderful thunderstorm last week that knocked out power to 119,000 people in San Antonio from high wind and lightning. It messed up people's yards something fierce with a house down the street having an unfortunate oak tree that just kind of tripped and fell over onto the house. I need to move to Germany, apparently. Edited June 10, 2010 by DeathKnight
