Cat
I need some criticism on some of the projects I have done for my classes. I needs someone else critiques besides the teacher and my friends. These are just a few of the projects I have done and have gotten back. Once I get more the projects back I will put them here. These are all from my Typography, Design, and Color Rendering classes. Sorry, about the large images. A lot of the projects have been poster based. CaNz
well... I am not sure if I have any critisism to give... I have no idea what these are for, they kinda look like advertisements, and if they are, what i say may be way of in terms of making people want to do what the picture tells them. of course i would like to help... sooo... 1: Its kinda trippy to see a persons face segmented and rendered individually. I am glad you did it in horozontal rows instead of vertical collums because it preserves some facial symmetry. i don't really have any constructive criticism with this one... oh... and whats in her mouth? 2: I like the spinally text in front of a spirally patterned background. It looks very professional, except the logos have white boxes for the most part, when I think they should all have a dark black box (dark enough to be seen over the shirt) and in some cases color inversion like the Yamaha one. Also, the pupils make this look a bit silly, this could be a comedy movie i guess.. but if its anything other than that i would suggest picking one and altering the other. 3: I love the shadows and blur on the text in this one, but some of the cat toys look like they have been pasted in, and not completely blended. and others look like they blended too much and became so blurry you cant tell what they are anymore. I don;t know if its worth fixing though because that text is beautiful and eye catching. without forcing myself to notice the details on this one I wouldn't have caught it. 4: I dislike decapitated animals and I would never go to this zoo! (but i find the simple style of this will work out for the average person perfectly) 5 I have no idea how you did this one, but it is impressive. the size of the 'T' varying to fit the picture as well as the light color scheme make it look amazing. I dont have any constructive criticism for this one. 6: I am not sure about the text in this one, There are too many repeated characters so the bloody look doesn't fit well in my opinion. especially if you use it on the spine of the book and the front. The scorpion image looks really good, i like how it blends in with the black. i think the image could actually be used more than once, like a small version on the spine and/or on the back cover and flipped horizontally. It looks really good so it may spruce up the blank parts. Anyways they all must have taken forever, and when it comes down to it, all of them look great, so make sure you don't kill yourself! I always say "when it comes to editing you will never get things done completely, you always work until you have something that's close enough." in other words, you will always find something that you can change up. don't worry about it being perfect. just make sure it does what you need. Cat
Thank You, for the critique CaNz. Now some answers for you questions. 1. That is a lip ring in HIS lip. I really messed up on it. Yeah, its a guy. Your not the first one to make the mistake, don't worry. Its the singer Wednesday 13. I doubt anyone knows who he is. This project was to piece together different coloring medias. It also is in "3D". Some of the sections come out towards the viewer and it makes it look a bit better. I'll have to take a picture of it. 2. I can't change the pupils cause that is an actually the way David Bowie's eyes are. One of them stays dilated like that. It is from a past injury he had. If I was to fix them it would be misrepresentation of David Bowie. You can read about it here I agree with the sponsors at the bottom. 3. The toys were the hardest thing to pull off. It was also on the few times I worked in photoshop. I was lost on how to get them to blend. 4. He wasn't decapitated before. He had a body, but the teacher thought he looked better with just the head. 5. It was a lot copy and pasting the letter T over and over in Adobe Illustrator. To get the color I did a type mask with a texture. 6. This one was the hardest one I had to do. I was at a complete blank on how to do it. There was a scorpion on the back cover, but again it was asked to be removed in editing.
CaNz
any time! I figured you know much better than I do about it, but i have time so i'd help if it was possible! 1. well... i can see the lip ring now... not so much the gender, but on second look i guess the only thing that looks feminine is the long hair and make-up... everything else looks neither manly or ladylike... but even with the bland features I am sure someone knows who he is! 2. I see... well I learned something new then... he still looks like a goof though. I feel bad for him. I couldn't possibly take him seriously even though it isn't his fault. 3. using a system you aren't familiar with will do it to you. honestly the only reason why i noticed it was because I usually do the same stuff. the only way i have found to seamlessly blend items in with photoshop is to either give them a border, or go into a magnification that allows you to see pixels and replace all non main color pixels with colors close to what you are blending it into or the main color of the item. it takes forever so sometimes i just blur the edges then start the pixel clean up. 4.well i say the teacher should at least let his head be connected to the pictures border to provide the illusion of a body! no one would go to a zoo that had nothing but floating heads! (except people who shouldn't be allowed to go anywhere) 5. I have done similar things by taking a repeating pattern then pasting a white stencil like image over it, but I can tell it would not look the same because of all the images being whole and the variation between fonts. This is easily my favorite picture you have made. 6. It sure didn't turn out bad for a complete blank! really the only thing i didn't like is the Blood text. the "o" especially looks strange because when things are written in blood no two letters look the same, but the giant blotches are in the same spot right next to each other. It wouldn't work all that well with the text you use, but a trick I like to use when I am using a unique looking font is altering the size. it adds a touch of random while remaining legible. plus its easy to do. in photoshop you can stretch each letter and rotate them in a snap. also it is good for titles because important words like "house" and "scorpion" can be big while "of" and "the" can be small, creating impact as well as a simple connection. They are all done it color pencil with some photoshop to bring out the color more. They were also some of the first color pencils I have ever done. Snake (I don't know what kind it is. CaNz
7. OHMYGOSH!!! those eyes are so friggin cool!!! 8. I love how the feathers have that fuzzy look to them. It kinda makes it look hand drawn, and also i want to pet it. 9. It looks pretty scary with those teeth. if i may ask... why is the fur normal, and the whiskers and mouth colorful? it kinda makes it look frightening. It look really looks great though. I ended up using blue over the white to try and bring them out.

Cat
Well, I just competed another project. Its due Tuesday November 9, 2010 sometime in the afternoon. I really don't know what time. My classes on Tuesday and Thursday blur together because I have the same teacher. Anyway, this is a tea box layout for Typography. I'm sure something is misspelled some where. I can't spell to well any way. Its not upside down either. That is the way the layout is meant to be for printing. Comments and criticism much appreciated. This one is really girly compared to the other projects I have done. Now, I'm going to crawl in a hole somewhere and try to get some sleep for once. CaNz
that is very pretty Cat! it took a few seconds for me to transform this into a box in my head... but the way i see it, this fits together very well. the colors are nice for the dark shades you used, giving it a cool tone. The color of the butterflies also stand out nicely my only criticism is that there doesn't seem to be anything appetizing on the box. obviously it isnt mandatory, but i think people are more inspired to buy something that looks like it tastes good. i doubt a tea cup would fit with the color pattern, but a nice flower dripping with nectar might fit in with the theme. its a very well done theme and it looks quite professional! Cat
I'll see if I can add the flower. True fully, I don't know where to put it. Thank you, for your help. Here I was thinking it looked really thrown together.
CaNz
it looks nice! I wouldnt worry to much about the flower. the only place that makes sense is on the black plant stuff.
Cat
New project compete. Well kind of anyway. I have 5 different tee-shirts designs below. The pink one I can't use cause, I couldn't find any pink tee-shirts. The other 4 have very slightly differences to the. Your probably going to think she post 4 of the same design. Most of the differences is in the color of the text and the intensity of the blue swirl flower in the background. I'm not completely sure which one I'm going to end up using, yet. This is for typography, thus the reason there is little graphics too them. CaNz
I am kinda surprised you didn't have any see through text. seeing the blue swirls wouldn't be difficult for actual production unless the letters are being stitched on. out of the four i like the pink and light blue the best. pink and turquoise go well with bratty little girls,
Cat
There going to be printed out using an ink jet printer and iron on to the clothes. I'm not sure how the text will come out using iron ons or if I can even iron. Its going be interesting weekend. For the turquoise one, the one with the white text or blue? Once this is done its and graded this is going to be my little sisters Christmas gift. She is a real brat.
CaNz
White cause it looks more like the border separates the pattern from the text. the blue kinda makes it look cloudy in my opinion.

Cat
These are logo designs for my Art history class. The project was to re-design the logos for popular sports teams. I decided on the football teams New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys because they were easy to re-design. The type on them is terrible, however luckily the teacher doesn't really care and allows me to relax a bit on the designs. CaNz
well, since i am a 49er fan I am inclined to say both of them suck. but in i guess that's not right to do since you put effort into them. I actually really liked the text for the most part, especially the patriots one. as for the colors, i do like the vibrant red and blue shading in the patriots logo. the cowboys logo colors kinda seem drab cause of the all the gray, but the guns look really well done and details. also, does this count as redesigning the logo since the only thing that makes them look like the logo is the old logo still being on the picture? not that it really matters, the art is what is important and all the attention to detail shows. Lyndy
I saw the those colored pencil drawings on theO and commented them. x3 But I'll go ahead and comment on them again here. I really like the colors on all of them. The hair on the cheetah looks real, and I love the beak on the bird. But my favorite drawing is the snake. The colors blend really well on the scales. I really can't find anything wrong with those drawings. Very nice and keep up the good work. ^^

Well, the art teacher wanted some reference to the old logos in the new logos, so she wouldn't have to go looking for the teams old logo. These to me seem more like symbols. If it were up to me I would have taking the old logos the teams off.
