In this thread we will continue our grand tradition of awarding various aspects and members of our totally nifty community. Those of you new to the idea may have some questions... [size=4][b]What is it again?[/b][/size] To put it simply, itâ??s a list of the fifty members, threads, or things that have made theO's community great (â??niftyâ??) in the past year (that includes theOtaku and OB). You, the members, are going to nominate your favorites here in this thread, and the fifty best nominees will be chosen for the list. [size=4][b]So whoever gets the most nominations wins?[/b][/size] No. Itâ??s about quality here, not votes. Make sure that your arguments are strong in your nominations, because that will be the deciding factor. To make sure that members from every clique and segment of the site is fairly represented, The Nifty Fifty Committee will be secretly assembled to compile the final list, The OtakuBoards Nifty Fifty of 2010. Members who really stood out this year, threads that had a big impact, great memories, current events that affected the boards or the main site in some way. Â He's always quick to welcome new members and make them feel welcome or chat up everyone else to keep the conversations flowing. Â I think that he deserves some sort of recognition for that. [b]James[/b]- He's nifty because he always has the members of OB in mind and always does his best to contribute to the site on a more personal level. Whether that'd be posting in threads or contributing new features (and helping the podcast!), James is always there for us. We are blessed to have a Director like James. [b]Boozorz[/b]- My partner in crime is an editing mastermind and also one of the nicest, funniest and friendliest members on the board. He's also got an awesome dutch accent ;) [b]Chibi Master[/b]- My favorite Gremlin. She's always eager to help anyone, and is a "happy person" :P. I enjoy her holiday threads/ segments. I declare whatever day the Nifty Fifty releases to be Chibi Master day! [b] The Lounge[/b]- I moved to this section and I love the large variety in the topics. While I don't participate in all of them, it's nice to see where people's interests lie. [b]Shinmaru[/b]- Shin has inspired me to check out new anime with his weekly anime segments that he does for the podcast. ( I really liked the Shogi one, dude.) and is too school for cool. Shin has a cool voice and doesn't afraid of anything. [b]CaNz[/b]- Whether it'd be having the most profile views for some reason, or misspelling the word "future" , CaNz finds some way to be one of the leading members of the forum. We all pick on him, but it's only because we are obligated to. Or maybe it's because he's family. I dunno. [b]Sangome[/b]- BECAUSEOMGSHEFREAKSOUTCONSTANTLY. [b]Ace[/b]- My OB Broksi. His Hanz von Hozel Fan Fiction Theatre is simply wonderful and has affected my vernacular with phrases such as "make a lazy/ an active." [b]The OB community[/b]- You guys are awesome. The site has waned in traffic over the years, but we have dedicated users who have shown their dedication to their forum. Every time I hear the intros for the Podcast, or I get to speak with another member via Skype, it feels like I've known them forever. [b]Kei[/b]- Our News anchor is so in touch with all things Journalism and has an awesome delivery when it comes to delivering the news. Kei's also a very......persuasive person when it comes to negotiation. I'll be on the lookout if I meet her and she has a bag with her.... [b]Our soon to be MINI-Indi[/b]- While it was a bit /late for me, Indi and Nathan are welcoming a little one into the world. Certainly not the first OB Baby, but still nifty nonetheless . [b] Sabrina getting married[/b]- Indi's roommate and fellow Otaku Sabrina also took a life step and decided to hook on the wedding shackles. When he starts something, he sees it through to the end no matter what. He began his crusade into events with Otaku Awards (i believe) and quickly changed it to a more laid back, easy to read and participate in, Nifty Fifty. Keeping Nifty Fifty going strong for 6 years is quite a feat, and even if he didn't make every single thread for it, I know that he had a hand in helping each year even if just behind the scenes. He cares a lot about the community and this becomes clear with his involvement in OB events. So Shy, I tip my hat to you old chap. [b]1) What is it?[/b] The OB Family [b]2) Why was it nifty?[/b] No, this isn't a nomination for the old "THIS USER IS MY BROTHER, THIS USER IS MY DAD" thing. It's more about the community of OB itself. There's one thing that separates all of us from other forums and that is [i]we care[/i]. We care about writing quality, we care when a new member joins and doesn't know what to do and we care when an old member comes back or a regular leaves. The people of OtakuBoards are a tight-knit community that always has room for a few more stitches. Even if you don't know every member on OB personally, I guarantee you know someone who does. And that's why I'm nominating the community of OtakuBoards as a family. The new layout took some getting used to, but I honestly am starting to prefer it to the older version now. Here's to many more updates and versions to come! [b]What is it?[/b] The Otakuboards Podcast! [b]Why is it nifty?[/b] Because it's 50-60 minutes of hearing fellow members talk about stuff, and being pretty darn funny while doing so. It's great to see everyone come together for it, and hearing what everyone sounds like is pretty great, too. It breaks the depraved chatroom stereotype thanks to a robust moderation system, and for that, I feel it deserves a spot. [b]What is it?[/b] Status updates! He is also very vigilant and will let me know whenever he catches me spying on his profile. Which is all the time. I love him to death, and you know you do, too! [b]Who is it?[/b] Sangome~! We spoke lovingly about our adorable starters! We bragged and exaggerated over our hard-earned gym badges! We cried, agonized and FFFFFFUUUUUU-Faced in response to Whitney's Miltank. Advice was given about an assortment of problematic situations! From a Sudowoodo lost in a PokeWalker that was left in a dryer, to catching a Lapras in Union Cave, our combined knowledge was enough to get even ME to the status of Pokemon Champion. [b]Who is it?[/b] Allamorph! [b]Why are they nifty?[/b] Allamorph, also known as Basement Cat, has mentally scarred me so many different ways that I've lost count. It's actually interesting to see what he comes up with sometimes! He frightens me beyond mere words, but also makes me laugh so hard that my face aches, and I think that's a pretty decent trade-off. Allamorph is goofy when he wants to be, but can offer some great advice when someone is in need of it. [b]Who is it?[/b] Miss Anonymous! [b]Why are they nifty?[/b] Are you kidding? Cure Curry is, like, the BEST reason to go on theOtaku Chat! She always seems to have something amusing to say and she managed to get me addicted to a sparkly Magical Girl anime! She will flat-out tell you that she needs your face to die, as I have learned from the OB Podcast, and I think that's a good thing! No one likes a sugar-coater! She's just all-around fun to hang out with and she has a knowledge of internet memes that might even surpass my own. She's a reliable mod and she can provide great moral support when it counts. Also, I'm hoping putting this up here will help convince her that she's actually way more awesome than she thinks she is. [b]Who's Nifty?:[/b] Shinmaru! [b]Explain yourself!:[/b] Shin is totally cool, man. He's the guy who organizes the weekly movie viewings, which aside from reintroducing me to some classic comedies are full of some great color comedy from the other participants. He's full of great one-liners and he's a reliable source of new anime and movies that don't suck, so in short, Shin is win. [b]What's Nifty?:[/b] [b]Heartcatch Pretty Cure[/b] [b]Explain yourself!:[/b] Over the past six months or so, Desbreko has gradually managed to drag a select few individuals straight into the depths of the magical girl fandom through this show. I was among these unfortunate individuals, but I totally don't regret it. HCP is a lot like its main characters, it's sweet and girly and cheesy on the outside, but look a little closer and you have fight scenes that rival the best of any shonen action series, crazy monsters, fun characters and a surprising amount of depth for a monster of the week format series. Over the course of the show, the gradually increasing number of new viewers got together to watch, discuss, and generally gush about how cool the last episode was and how much they were looking forward to the next one. It's fun, it's crazy, and one of the villains stepped right out of [b]Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann[/b]. In short, and I quote TV Tropes, "This show is too awesome to be for little girls." And that awesomeness brought us all together. Or something. [b]Who's Nifty?:[/b] Ducky [b]Explain yourself!:[/b] Honestly, expanding on the phrase "Ducky is Awesome" is just not possible. I have dubbed her the Matriarch of Awesomeness and it seems to be a generally accepted title. She's like the cool big sister of the entire population of the website. That is really all I can say. [b]Who's Nifty?:[/b] You! [b]Explain yourself!:[/b] No. You go to the bathroom right now. Now look in that mirror. You know what that is? That's you. And you are constructed of 100% concentrated win. You've spent a lot of time becoming you are, and that in itself is a pretty great accomplishment. After all, you're the only person who has done it! So congratulate yourself, sir or madam. You show me a board that's better and I'll show you someone that's full of ####. Folks here are easy to talk to whether they're old or new, up in age or one of them young thundercats and everyone has their own little quirky-ness about them and people are actually funny. For all the time we spent talking about it, it's really satisfying to see a real podcast up there - and to already have so many published episodes, too! It's been so much fun to listen to and I'm really impressed that it's drawn in so many members to participate. It's even crossed the border and dived right into theOtaku.com territory. It's a huge draw for OB and it's another thing that makes this site really special. I hope it keeps going and if it does, I'm sure it will grow larger and larger! [b]Who is it?[/b] Korey & Boo [b]Why are they nifty?[/b] I couldn't mention the podcast without mentioning its creators! Korey and Boo have done a brilliant job on the podcast and they have been a really great example to everyone else on OB, as well. I'm very happy that they are here and that they have put in so much effort for something that means a lot to our community. Plus, they happen to be awesome members anyway - podcast or no podcast! [b]Who is it?[/b] Petie & Desbreko [b]Why are they nifty?[/b] Again, I have to mention a duo here. Petie and Desbreko both deserve to be nominated together because they have worked together so well over the last year. During 2010 we launched a major new version of OtakuBoards in a very short space of time (the whole thing was literally done in a week). That's really, really impressive given that it was quite a big job. On top of that, they both worked very hard on a big upgrade in December, right in time for Christmas. Due to their collaboration, we have been able to keep OB on top of its game from a technical point of view. I couldn't have done it without them and I think the entire community should be really pleased with the work they have done. [b]Who is it?[/b] CaNz [b]Why is he nifty?[/b] Somehow he managed to be the butt of all jokes on OB over recent months - but it all comes from love! CaNz is an all-round awesome member who has a great sense of humor and never takes things too seriously. [b]Who is it?[/b] chibi-master [b]Why is she nifty?[/b] This is the second year in a row that I've nominated chibi. What can I say, really? She's always having fun and she always has a really bright, positive attitude. Plus her podcast segment is always great. We're very lucky to have her here with us! [b]Who is it?[/b] Futer [b]Why is he nifty?[/b] Simply because I don't think we've had a fake member with such a high profile since...OtakuBot. 'nuff said. [b]Who is it?[/b] Sangome [b]Why is she nifty?[/b] She's an all-round awesome member who keeps the place fun and interesting. I think she has become one of OB's celebrities over the last year - perhaps there will one day be an Otakupedia article about her, as with some of our other OB legends. ;) [b]What is it?[/b] Status Updates [b]Why is it nifty?[/b] It seems like a small thing, but I think status updates have been one of the most important changes to OB in years.
