Recently I've been going back and listening to a lot of old theme songs/soundtracks of old TV shows I watched as a kid, and I've been rather surprised by some of the quality of the songs. So I've made this thread for everyone to post their favourite TV show songs from when they were a kid! Any theme songs from a children's show (or teen, I suppose) or songs from a soundtrack based on a children's show is fair game. Just remember this isn't a thread about your favourite toons (for that thread, click [url=http://www.otakuboards.com/index.php?/topic/44592-fave-toons/]here[/url]), its specifically about how awesome the songs are/were. To get the ball rolling heres a few of my favourites! First, I'll start with the classic just so nobody else has to post it... [center][b]The First Pokemon Theme Song (full version)[/b] [media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTdsijn32HQ[/media][/center] It's amazing to compare this theme song to the other Pokemon themes that succeed it, because none of them are even on the same level as this song. Anyone of pretty much any age can enjoy this song. It's got a good rock beat, a nice drum intro, catchy singing... it's an all around great theme song and it's no wonder nearly every gamer/anime fan in the world can sing it in its entirety. I mean just look at some of the other Pokemon intros... Does anyone else have anything to add as to why the first theme pwns all the others? Next is another classic for a different age group. If you look at other Disney shows from the 80s and 90s a lot of them had awesome theme songs (Gummie bears, Ch-ch-ch-Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers, etc). They really knew how to make a catchy tune for the kids and parents accompanying them to like. It's just that the entire dub's soundtrack was full of pure, concentrated win, and then the theme itself was more or less a basic techno backdrop piece with repetitive lyrics. The fourth season's dub theme was a vast improvement, but it still kind of loses out to the Japanese version just because of how rockin' [i]FIRE![/i] is. On the subject, though, and because Sangome was kind enough to overload the last post with the pokeymans soundtrack, let's go ahead and take a little trip through exactly what made the Digimon dub OST so amazing. [center][media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExP2ei65wzU[/media] This was pretty much the battle theme for the first half of season 2, if I recall correctly. It's catchy, it gets you pumped, and you just know something cool is about to happen when you hear it.[/center] [center][media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8mu2nRKxEA[/media] This was what they played when Season 2's cast entered the Digital World. They only ever played a small clip of it during the show, as that was a pretty short sequence, but it was enough to get it stuck in your head and drive your parents up the wall. It's not a bad song, it's just that it hardly ever seems to fit the mood of the scene they put it in. It was Season 1's battle theme from about the Tokyo arc onwards, and they killed Myotismon (the first time) with it playing in the background. Like I said, it's not a bad song, but it really would have fit the mood of that scene better if they had used something less upbeat and happy, like "Run Around". That said, it did work pretty well for the finale scene.[/center] [center][media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYGCAE7aGm0[/media] I don't even remember what they used this for in the actual show, but it was in the movie and it's probably one of my favorite songs out of these. It's just a ton of fun and you can tell the artist loved making it.
