Sephiroth had used the afternoon to sit in his hotel room and polish his Masamune, while Karu and Chole had decided to browse the local market. Karu had bought "Madam Butterpetal's Chocolate Favourites", which were packaged in a small, brown, silk pouch with silver string tied around the top. Karu liked magical things, and this particular chocolate was unique in that it was able to change to whatever flavour the person eating it thought of when putting it in their mouth. There weren't many magic shops in Solhara City, but those which existed were better than Karu had seen in the Kingdom of Physar. Chole, on the other hand, had been looking for new rollerblades. And he'd found an amazing pair at one of the many Rollerblade stores across Solhara. Since Solhara was really the world's "technological gizmos mecca", there were a wealth of options when it came to any consumer product. The pair in question were black with red wheels. They not only looked funky, but they used the latest forms of anti-gravity technology, which the Metropod race had become famous for. Basically, by pressing the right heel against the ground, the wheels would turn on their sides and start to glow bright red -- allowing the wearer to hover and "skate" along thin-air. Chole had bought his new rollerblades and tried them on in the store -- and decided to wear them for the rest of the day. As night began to fall, Chole and Karu met up with Sephiroth outside their hotel. It didn't seem at all like nighttime in Solhara City; some places were flooded with so much neon light, that they looked like they were places in a dream -- they were so surreal at times. It seemed as though Solhara City was regularly having at least one kind of festival or show. The Annual Gun Festival had finished that day, but tonight was the first night of the International Spacecraft Show. The show was being held partly inside the Solhara City Exhibition Center, but as most of the giant spacecraft couldn't fit in the building, organizers had decided to hold the rest of the show in the city's City Center -- a huge, paved area full of fountains and carefully-pruned shrubs. As the three came closer to the Exhibition Center, they saw huge crowds of people ahead. The crowds were so large, infact, that the Center looked very far away indeed. Loudspeakers were set up everywhere and they could hear an announcer say[b] "Ah yes, what a show we have on tonight, ladies and gentlemen! We have more than three million visitors to the International Spacecraft Show tonight! Isn't that amazing?! Organizers say that tomorrow will be even MORE crowded, with more than four million visitors from all over the city. However, numbers won't be larger than last year's record of twelve million visitors, because of the fact that the city's gates have been closed for the foreseeable future. Sad it might be, but we're certainly not complaining! How lucky we all are to live in such a grand and beautiful city! The monsters outside our gates won't dare harm us -- with our race's technological prowess, nothing would dare attack us! Hahah! Anyway, we hope that everyone enjoys the 50th Annual International Spacecraft Show! Remember to validate your Citizen Pass at one of the local Identification Kiosks!" [/b] The trio looked at each other.[/i] Chole: There is no way we could possibly get in the Exhibition Center with so many people about! Sephiroth: Hmm, it would seem to be a hurdle... Karu: But we MUST get in there by tonight! They'll be debuting the SC-3000! It's the only way to get out of the city if we want to go within the next week! Chole: Yeah I know, Karu...but how can we make our way through this crowd? Karu: I don't know...:( [i] Karu looked down as he pondered the seemingly impossible task of getting through the huge crowd. And then he noticed a manhole cover...[/i] Karu: Hey guys...look over there. We could use the sewer system! Chole: Are you serious?! I don't want to crawl through that... Karu: But Solhara City hasn't used it in more than twenty years! Remember, their toilets now have a Waste Neutralizer...they don't need sewers anymore! There would be nothing down there...no people to bother us...it'd be an easy ride. We could walk to the manhole directly underneath the Exhibition Center, if we were to walk north all the way. Sephiroth: The kid has a point...I say we do it... Chole: Oh alright...let's go! [i]Chole, Sephiroth and Karu walked over to the nearest manhole cover and pulled it off. They then slipped down into the darkness under the crowded streets of Solhara City... ...but little did they know, their journey wouldn't be so easy. You think you're scaring anyone with that stupid false confidence?! Hahaha...look at me! I'm a big, stupid Falyore! Hahahhah!! [i]The other four theives began laughing out loud, while Sephiroth calmly stood still, his eyes narrowed.[/i] Sephiroth: This is your last warning. Turn around immediately and don't look back, or I might change my mind... Thief 2: Bahahahahah!!!! What are you gonna do, buddy? Get your stupid Quart friend to throw a twig at us! BAHAHAHAH!!! [i]Sephiroth lunged forward at the speed of light and grabbed the second thief by the throat. He lifted the thief up above his head and looked into his eyes with a piercing stare.[/i] Sephiroth: You don't even know what true fear is...want me to show you? Theif 2: Uhh...no sir...please sir...please let me live... [i]The front of the theif's pants suddenly became a little darker; Karu muffled a giggle. Sephiroth suddenly threw the thief forwards, sending him at least a good ten metres backward. The thief's body thumped hard against the metal flooring of the sewer. The first thief, despite this display, moved closer to Sephiroth, eyeing him suspiciously.[/i] Thief 1: I've seen you somewheres before... Sephiroth: Maybe you have. But if you don't leave here right now, the only time you'll ever see me again is in your nightmares... [i]The thief pondered this for a moment and thought the better of himself; he backed away and motioned for the other thieves to follow. They ran away and turned the corner, their footsteps echoing against the harsh metal pipes of the sewer. Sephiroth looked ahead of them...[/i] Sephiroth: Let's go... Rasanak turned round, but the others were gone.[/i] Rasanak: Oh crap... where are they? [i]Rasanak panicked and ran frantically through crowd, calling their names, people not taking any notice of him as he pushed everyone out of the way. Soon the crowd died down and Rasanak thought he had gone a little too far. He ended up pacing slowly through a narrow street, it got dimmer as more buildings towered up on each side. Suddenly he saw a gang of theives just climb out of a sewer. They were looking quite scared, but then they spied Rasanak, and they walked over to him.[/i] Theif1: Heheh... second weirdo we seen today, eh guys? Other theives: Hahahaha... Rasanak: What was the first? Theif2: It was some stupid Falyore with a big sword... just some freak probably... Rasanak: [i]That sounds like Sephiroth![/i] You looked pretty scared when you climbed out the sewer... Theif1: Grrr! You punk, don't insult us! [i]Some of the theives started swinging their chains round, others took out some flick-knives.[/i] Rasanak: Hahaha! Toothpicks!! All theives: Grr! [i]Rasanak unsheathed his own weapon, his great Mecha Sword and he spun it around and got quickly into a fighting pose.[/i] Theif3: Not as big as that other freak's sword! Rasanak: The size doesn't matter, you rat... I am not going to hurt you, just let me pass and I might not. Theif1: What do you think boys shal we let him pass? Other theives: Nah!! He put his sword back into the scarrab.[/i] Treble: We've been looking for you. Where'd ya go to anyway? Rasanak: You guys left me at a stall, i turned around and you were gone... Ken: We had to get going, the fair was about to end and all the prices were down Durumir: We best be going, the International Spacecraft Show starts in a few hours. But it is backed up to the main squares in Solhara.... I wonder... is there anyway o beat the crowd? Rasanak: The sewer system would work...? Treble: We can't chance it..... we have little ones... AJ: Hey, i'm not little... Cloud: Maybe we should split up?? [sephiroth turned around, and both he and the thief's eyes locked on to each other, a look of surprise appeared on the thief's face] thief: no......you can't be....hey, take off your hood [for the first time in the entire journey, sephiroth took off his hood, his long white hair flowed freely, and both bangs of white hair appeared in front of his forehead] seph: .....its been a while.....jasmine [the thief took her knife away from karu's throat and took a step back] jasmine: but I....we all thought....you were dead seph: ....well, you could say I was jasmine: .....I'm.....sorry for everything [she then ran off into the distance, karu and chole stood there with a look of confusion on their faces, sephiroth just put his hood on and began to walk] seph: come now, we are almost there.... to be continued.... Sephiroth: Sometimes it's best not to reveal your identity so easily... Karu: Why? Sephiroth: Because there are many in this world who think they have a score to settle with me. When you become famous for turning men into little boys at the sight of you...there are significant rewards for people who wish to destroy you... Karu: Oh...I see. If that's the case, then why are you coming with us on this journey? Aren't you worried about being discovered? Sephiroth: I've had enough of hiding. Let them discover me...so what...their fates will be no different. I, just like you, want to find out about the monster population increasing...people think I have no plan or agenda, but that's because they talk with their sword and not their mouth... Karu: What do you mean? Sephiroth: Sometimes, young Karu, people don't want to listen. They want to fight...that's all they desire. I only fight when I need to. That is why I do not talk much...those who listen are the ones who have a better chance of knowing the enemy... Karu: Oh... Chole: Hey guys, look...up ahead... [i]Chole pointed at a ladder leading up into the darkness. It was the manhole cover they were looking for; the number on the wall was the same as the number Chole had on a map of the city.[/i] Chole: This should be it...let's go! [i]Karu went first, then Chole and Sephiroth followed. As Karu pushed the manhole cover open (with some difficulty), the three emerged upon a storage room. They were surrounded by boxes and crates.[/i] Chole: Oh phew...I was hoping we wouldn't emerge in the middle of a busy area. Now, let's find that space ship... [i]He walked over to the wall and pressed his hand against a pad near the door. A small monitor on the wall began to glow and it displayed a map of the complex. The SC-3000 display was only a few metres to the south of them. All they had to do was pretend to be a part of the crowd...and jump into the ship when nobody was looking. It's sleek, white exterior looked incredibly alien to Karu, who had never in his life seen a space ship. It was a relatively small vessel, and the pod-flaps at the top were open...revealing exactly three seats inside. Chole and Sephiroth stood infront of Karu, as he hopped into the third seat and crouched down out of sight. Sephiroth decided to create a diversion. He took a ninja star from his pocket and threw it toward a security guard. The star hit him in the shoulder and he howled out in pain. The commotion caused a huge crowd to form around the security guard, which allowed Sephiroth and Chole to jump into the ship. They closed the pod-flaps and Chole engaged the engines. Just as he did this, they could hear gunfire coming from outside -- the guards were trying to stop them taking off. Chole fumbled around at the controls and pressed a button which said "Shields". A female computerized voice then said flatly "Shields Engaged at 100%". The bullets did no good; they merely ricocheted off the hull of the ship. Chole then pushed the thrust lever and the ship began to hover in mid air above its stand. It slowly rose high into the air and with a very light tap of the accelerator, the ship blasted off over the crowd. For around ten minutes, nothing went wrong. And then suddenly, an alert sounded "Stolen Ship Detected...overriding controls" Chole looked at the others. The ship had taken control of itself, the only problem was, it didn't appear to have a great deal of fuel. All of a sudden, the ship turned itself around and went in the opposite direction, blasting off at full speed. The force of the acceleration was so strong, that Karu fell out of his seat. Luckily, Sephiroth reached out and caught him by his shirt before he could hit his head against the wall of the rear compartment. Chole looked out below them; but he didn't see any castle...rather, he saw a dense jungle setting. It looked like the ship was heading southwest -- the opposite direction to the castle. Before too long, the ship's engines began to falter. Red warning lights were flashing all over the ship's console and the occupants could feel the hull moving lower... CRRRAAASSHH! The ship plunged into the thick foliage at the edge of the jungle. Chole got up and rubbed his head.[/i] Chole: Is everyone alright? Sephiroth: Yeah, I'm fine... Karu: Yep, it's okay back here. [i]Chole pushed the damaged Pod-Flaps open. As he climbed out, he saw that they had landed on the edge of a forest. To the south of them (and only a few metres away) was an expansive beach with golden sand and blue water. It was Squeaky Beach. Chole had been here once before. To the west of the beach was a small town called Squeaky Cove. It was a popular tourist destination. The three could relax there and work out what to do next. Chole stepped out onto the white sand: he could hear the perfectly round grains of sand squeak under his shoes, thus the title "Squeaky Beach". Sephiroth Posted February 11, 2002 Share Posted February 11, 2002 [the 3 of them continued to walk through squeaky beach, an hour had passed before any one of them spoke] karu: how much longer until we get there? chole: hmm, about 2 hours I think karu: I wouldn't complain if it wasn't so hot, and this squeaky sand is starting to get on my nerves [they both looked at sephiroth as they all walked, a look of discomfort quite apparent on his face] karu: whats wrong sephiroth? seph: .......its the sand chole: huh, what about it? seph: I have rather sensitive ears as a falyore, and the squeakyness of our feet walking on the sand is quite discomforting, pay me no attention, I'll be fine [another 2 hours had passed, and finally they stood in front of squeaky cove] chole: finally, were here, now lets find a place to get some rest.... to be continued....
