9mm Avenger
I am a HUGE HUGE HUGE Sonic fan, but is his switch over to Nintendo going to be a major change? Will the next Smash Bros. have sonic in it?(god I hope so) Was it right for Sega to die, and throw Sonic to the nearest passing lifeboat?!
RicoTranzrig
Sega's not dead...they've just turned into a full-time 3rd party developer...its likely that we'll see a Mario/Sonic crossover game soon...Concerning becoming a 3rd party developer...I guess the owner didn't think Dreamcast would make it in the future...so rather than risking his company...he killed off the dreamcast. It' was a wussy decision...but it's probably better for most people...
Fall
He's coming to Nintendo?! OOOoo, I never knew that! Well it will be great if he turns up in a Smash Bros. game.
Charles
Sega's dropping out of the console business wasn't really a "wussy move." The launch of the Dreamcast was highly successful, but shortly afterwards, sales numbers dwindled to a near standstill. Sega's failure with the Saturn didn't totally turn the consumers off because many true gamers recognized that Sega had gotten back on track and was ready to make amends for past misgivings. Many people were glad to give Sega a second chance. However, third party developers didn't want to put big games on the Dreamcast until it sold better, but that wouldn't happen until more big games showed up. While there were enough gamers who recognized the Dreamcast's potential to give it a successful launch, there weren't enough to keep sales going at a steady rate. In the end, only a handful of games actually broke into the TRST top 20 for units sold. Sega didn't even fare too well in Japan. You see, Sega made the right move for business. Now, people will actually play their quality games. Now that my history lesson is over, I'll address the topic. Sonic's move to Nintendo actually freaks me out. I remember Sega's strong campaign against Nintendo. "Sega does, Nintendon't." Sega's commercials were top notch and hit below the belt. Nintendo was just as vicious, publishing an ad in magazines that bashed "blast processing" and showed several comparisons between dithered Sega graphics and Super Nintendo graphics. The looked so much like an editorial that many people wrote in complaining. To see such a mingling between two of the greatest mascots in the history of gaming will be a monumentous occasion. Guest Imsirion
i was going to buy i dream cast but then it died( along with segas console career) i think its cool to see sega games on other systems though.
Desbreko
I think it's great that Sega is a 3rd party developer now! This way, you'll be able to play their games no matter what console you have! I'll finally get to play Sonic games on my Nintendo systems! I don't have anything against Sega's systems, it's just that I never have enough money for two consoles... I think it's funny to go back through all my old issues of Nintendo Power and Electronic Gaming Monthly and see all the Sega and Nintendo adds bashing on one another.
9mm Avenger
Yep......I remember one ish of EGM...The editor was bashing Tails..."He's furry, cut, with those sloppy disgusting big eyes...Ugh, he's like the Scrappy Doo of the gaming world." Syk3
To start, sega is making a hell of a lot more games for other systems that just sonic for gc. But is u hav a dc, it doesn't matter about the sonic game because the 2nd one for dc is supposed to be exactly lik it, so don't waste ur money for the expensive gc one. The next super smash, if there is one, will not hav sonic in it. As u should kno, super smash has characters EXCLUSIVELY FOR NINTENDO, which means that sonic would not be on it, because it belongs to sega, even if it becomes a 3rd party for another system. Do u c tony hawk in the game? No. Just because a game is on a system, doesn't mean that it is owned by that company.

(if there is another SSB game) may actually have Sonic in it. In an old Nintendo Power from a couple months ago, there was a short interview with Yuji Naka (the head of Sonic Team, the offshoot of Sega that makes the Sonic games) and he said that he and Shigeru Miyamoto were actually thinking about making a game together. He also said that Sonic might be in the next Super Smash Bros., if there is another one.

I can't wait to see Sonic Adventure 3 on GameCube. :) Other than that...I think we can look forward to seeing Sonic in Mario Kart on GameCube...I can't even imagine how cool that'll be, as I'm a HUGE Mario Kart fan. :)

I am sure that someone must be messing around with the dates. About the topic, Sonic looks like he has found a home, like I stated in a previous topic, in Nintendo. If Sonic Adventure 2 Battle hasn't convinced you enough, then I hope that you will believe me once an entirely new Sonic game comes to the GCN. JCBaggee, I think you mean Sonic Advance, and it came out a long time ago. Again, why does it seem that people are messing with the dates? :blah:

I just wish that companies would make games for both Gamecube and Playstation2. I really like some of the games on the ps2, but it comes to the monie problem. I got a Gamecube and can't get a ps2. I know that it would probly hurt the console sales but the game sales would mostlikely go up though.

These games are mostly sport games like Madden 2002 and SSX Tricky, but they are still extremely good. I see what you are saying though. You mean that they should have the same action games, like Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, right? Ah, but that would bring down the sales of one, if not both of the systems. There would be no reason to choose between them, no need for competition, no fun at all, in my opinion. I like it better the way it is now. :blah:

If a console can't hold its own with good first and second party games, then I don't think its a very good console. A good example of this is the Nintendo 64. It survived for a long time, mainly off of its first and second party games.

Please remember, this forum (and some others here) tend to move fairly slowly. And thus, the definition of an "old topic" is perhaps different here to what it would be in General Discussion. Also, the use of old topics isn't against the rules at all -- it's preferable to creating an entirely new topic which would essentially be the same as the old one. Just thought you'd like to remain updated on the rules. ;)

Once the game is released and people are able to play the game, their opinions on the finished product can provide new life not only in the thread, but in the forum as well.
