The topic for today Ladies and Gentlemen is this, has anime become to comericalized in the US. Think carefully about this and please do not judge anyone on their opinions for it is just that an opinion and everyone is entitled to it!

Well recently I was in a deep discussion with someone about the comercialization of Anime in the mainstream US. Personally I think yes anime has become to comericalized in the United States. Just take Pokemon and DBZ for example. If you notice these series were not so popular in the United States before being brought in there dubbed counterparts. With the dubbed counter parts came a US fandom. An when the people found that this show could be appealing to kids they started to sell toylines, and comics, and even burger king toys. The same goes with Pokemon, the craze hit america and now we have lunch boxes, toylines, and even burger king toys!:ball:

With comercialization comes censorship, the word everyone hates among the anime world. With the more comericalization of anime directed to the younger kids, more and more animes will in fact be chopped up and censored to appeal to the younger kids. I feel that in certain cases comercialization can be bad, due to the fact it usally leads to censorship of other animes just to make them appeal to the younger viewers! (sorry if i offended anyone about that statement)

However comercialization of anime in certain cases can be good take robotech for example. Robotech originally was three seperate anime series (Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, Super Dimensional Calavery Southern Cross, and Mosepeda), that were edited to make one show called Robotech. In this case comercialization of anime was good due to the fact that this was one of the major shows that made anime popular in the US. So in some cases it can be good, like back in the 80's but as we head into 2002 it seems like the only reason they are comercializing anime is too simply market it for toys and the younger views. Leaving us older people with censored and severely cut anime that leaves most fans similar to myself a quite a bit upset!

Well I just want to know your thoughts on this subject!

I hate commercialism, with commercialism comes editing, and also know it all's, you know them, those sad little people that watch the dubbed episodes on tv, and check up on the episodes they haven't seen on the internet, and then act all high and mighty saying they've seen every single episode....

commercialism also downgrades a good anime, too much hype ensues it, and if you haven't seen it before, it will most likely not live up to your expectations when you finally do see it....

commercialism is bad, thats all I have to say about it....

Man, animes have become a bit too commercialized for my liking. I mean I can see toys, but when they start make sheets and and cups and other junk out of a show, its time to stop. Also, with that censorship to appeal to younger viewers, I agree. They chop up an anime to make it appropriate to watch on television for younger kids and that means that they probably took out most of the things that older kids and some adults want to see and it makes me angry. I mean, it's like what the old saying says "What you do to one thing affects another.", and that saying really applies here. With all the censoring, they make all the older kids lose interest in the show, which leads to lower ratings, which leads to even more censorship so the ratings can go back up and the thing starts all over again. It's very annoying, actually.

[SIZE=1]Everyone has to realize that anime is a business first and foremost. Animation is extremely expensive to produce in comparison to live-action work and with Japan's (and the worlds) recent economic problems it is becoming increasingly obvious to japanese animation studios in order to pay for the animation they will need to receive income from new sources. The easiest way to make money from the shows is to sell products using the anime characters likenesses (video games, Burger King toys.) Unfortunantly American investors are weary to pay for the production of an anime series if it does not seem to have enough appeal to American audiences. Jokes and scenes involving japanese culture (which 9 year olds wouldn't understand) have to be cut in order to make the shows more relevant to their target audience. This comes at a price though, which is why many dubbed series seem to well... suck. If it weren't for Pokemon then it is highly unlikely that many anime series (Cardcaptors, Yugi-oh, Medabots) would ever make it to the United States at all. Commercialism can't be helped because television stations are there to make money!

Commercialism is a good thing untill they cross the line of making things like mugs, sheets, towels, ect.... untill it crosses that line it can be good. It can bring into the anime world true die hard Anime fans, like myself. I believe it was....about 3 years ago I saw an Anime movie( I can't remember the name) on TV. I liked it so much I wanted more, and here I am today.

anime isn't commercialized enough! though there are a few BIG exceptions to this statement (DBZ, Pokemon, Digimon). ppl barely know anything about all the other anime series there are out there. when I say anime needs to be more commercialized, I mean commercials for the videos/DVD's/manga, t-shirts, wallscrolls, and that's about it. other than that, it should be left alone.

AND NO CHEESY CRAPPY COMMERCIALS!!!!:flaming:
