Angelus_Necare
hey! that's a cool sport! but instead of using a puck they should use a person just like in those god-awful annoying carrot top commercials.

Transtic Nerve
Ofcourse it's a sport. It takes aim, skill, time, and a whole buncha other stuff. Perhaps you should go play it before you start talking bad about it.

Transtic Nerve
Originally posted by Squashed Snail Ok, what's 'curling'? I've never heard of it....
Have you ever played Shuffle board? Well it's like that but on ice... You have like 4-5 people per team... or maybe only 3... I'm not exactly sure... but you have a thrower/slider person and the rest are broom holders... There's a strip of ice about 7-10 feet wide and 100 feet long maybe.... and you have a well polished stone(s) that use use... the carrier guy slides the stone down and there's a targer on the ice... like in the ice... where the stone has to slide onto certain color loops in the target (like darts).... and the closer you get to the middle the more points... well the broom guys are there so they can slow the stone down or keep it going. By brushing the ice in front of the stone while it move, that creates friction, which mealts some of the ice and makes it more watery, thus more slipery, thus allowing the stone to travel further, then if one hadn't brushed the ice... no one can touch the stone though, just the ice around it... And you get like 4 shots or 5... and one after another... and whoever has the most stones in the circle target with the most points (depending where the stone stops) wins... and they play like 3-5 games... not sure on that either... Its really kinda cool to watch and play to... takes a tremendous amount of skill and aim. You should watch it sometime... whenever they play it again. asar
I saw this on the Winter Olympics covergae just the other day, and to tell the truth my first thoughts were WTF! How's this a sport! However, Transtic makes a very good point in his post, and one which we all need to be reminded of often. I heard someone say it as "Do not disparange anything that you do not have intrinsic knowledge of" In layman's terms it means don't pay out on anything (or anyone) unless you know exactly what these things involve. Sadly, i still can't help but smile when i see curling.....funny looking game. How do you think they created it?

Kuja
i agree with TN it is a sport, more a sport than american football is this takes great skill to play but yea i mean your pushing a 45 pound rock down the ice and trying to make it land it a target that is a lot harder than most sports i know that are all muscle, no skill ;)

Dan L
Curling... I don't know what is going on with curling. Apparently the guys sweeping the floor ahead of the... thing.... it changes something about the floor so that... thing... goes faster, or can steer. Agh.. very vague I know, but it's all I remember. k9*
:D of course it's a sport, direct from the people that gave us the sport of caber tossing :p

I bet you they don't, and I bet you I'd win that bet... and other stuff means whatever else they can incorporate that is also in other sports... If you don't like it, you don't have to watch. Of course your mear opinion doesn't matter. They are the ones winning gold metals, and all you win the "stupidity" award for making that useless comment. It's really rather quite simple.
Break
How is curling NOT a sport? I totally agree with TN, I mean, if it's not a sport, why is it in the winter olympics. It takes probably more skill than American Football. And kizu, shutup, they are NOT janitors. Janitors probably wouldn't get into the Winter Olympics anyway... I would really like to play it actually, if it's like shuffleboard (which is really cool), then I definately want to play :)
James
This discussion is utterly pointless. Anything can be a sport as long as it involves competition. Does a sport need to have a ball? No. Does it need to have teams/groups of players? No. How do you define "sport"? Consider that everything from skiing to auto-racing to jumping hurdles is considered sport... As long as it's competitive, it can be a sport. :) They even have turtle races and washing machine races these days...and in New South Wales, I've heard that they race cows occasionally (and sheep in New Zealand). So yeah, anything can be a sport ;)
