Have any of you lost friends because you just plain got fed up with them acting like idiots? Well I have... I lost a friend today because I wasn't in the mood to swap insults like "Your a doo doo head!" Is this such a bad thing?

Yes, I'm more mature than a person who would sit there and spend an hour talking about how "Oh! Dan and Jenny are so cute!" and "No my name is better!" This bothers me a huge amount...

Oh wait.. it gets better... all my fellow higher intelligence people out there will love this one...

My friend Jess'ca was upset that day and it was rubbing off on other people... so i told her... i was like "Jess'ca, your mellow-dramatic mood is rubbing off on other people" she gave me thislok like i had eight heads.. so then she tells me "God Alice, your always using these big words and no one knows what they mean. You sound stupid!"

I couldn't believe it... I sound supid because instead of using the word "bad" i used mellow-dramatic? im always using big words and so does my friend Leah... everyone around us is like "What did you just say?"

Why is it that I'm considered stupid by my peers because I use words like "Provacative, Promiscues, Mellow-dramatic, Melancholy, Ascertain, etc." Even if I can't spell them.. i use them the right way... is it because they are the stupid ones?

I'm sorry that I won't lower myself to using the word "like" 15 times in each sentence. No I won't insult my intelligence by using the word gregarious instead of popular. Am I the weird one because I know what the words synonomous and synthetic mean?

I back you up one hundred percent, I have friends like that too. but they understand sometimes, fortunate for me i can close my mind off to the world around me when the topic of "oh my gawd, that dress looks so bad on her." you just have to deal with it man, if your friend doesn't understand you for your intelectual reasons then she's not your friend.

If you implore me, I animadvert that copious plebeian who aren't as knowing as others incline to conjecture that those perspicacious plebeians are unequal and even iniquitous...

.......
IN OTHER WORDS:
If you ask me, I notice that many people who aren't as smart as others tend to believe that those intelligent people are different and even wrong...

I mean, c'mon, I can barely understand my own first sentence without thinking myself odd. What do you believe other people who have never even heard of those words will think when used?

Well it depends on the environment you're in.... At my old school, everyone thought I was stupid, and it got so bad that way, I ended up beleiving it.... :drunk: But anywayz, it's not a crime, everyone is intelligent, they just need to find it in themselves... :)

Everyone has intelect, and that can be a good thing, and a bad thing. There are those who use their intelect to help others, like James, and there are those people who use there intelect to bring terror to the world, like Bin Laden. So yes and no, to your question.

Eh, I make a note not to use "smart" words around a lot of people. Mostly when I do use "big words" like that it's because I planned my sentence ahead of time instead of just droning on with whatever comes to the top of my head at the time like I do here on these boards. But when people use 'em with me I understand what they are saying most of the time. I don't really like "big words" as I do more odd sounding words. I couldn't give you an example of the top of my head but ya.

Well this is one of the reasons why I lose interest in people so easily. It's good to joke around and everything but you also want to be able to have intelligent conversations at times too. I ditched my highschool mates once I finished because they were like kinda like the one you described. Some of my college friends, although older, weren't much different , except for a few, one of which became my best friend. I've made other friends from work who are smart and have a fun but mature personality. It's good to have those kind of friends...Funny though, all of them except my bestfriend, are older than me....hehe, go figure

I agree with you totally DBZChikaGhan

o.O me and my friends are always acting stupid well not always but the majority of recess... I only know two people who I can have and inteligent conversation with though my friends obi and jade.
one thing that really sh!ts me off though is the fact that in class all my friends are talking and me and jade listen to the teacher then they turn around and ask if we'll repeat what he/she said or if they can copy our work... grrr!!! really annoying

Also, intelligence is not based on big words. You can know a lot of stuff, but still use ordinary English

Anyway, big words don't make a person intelligent. They are easy to remember, it's just how you use that intelligence. If I haven't said it a hundred times, a guy or gal can be great in school, but still be dumb, as they study for tests.

Anyway, the wisest always try to make their thoughts simple...

I guess i'm lucky in that i go to a selective school where all of the people have what would be considered above average intelect, but just like the last post said, not everyone's intelligence manifests itsef into speech. One of my girl-friends speaks like that stereotypical bimbo ie "and, like, *breathe audibly* it was sooooo good, y'know" but she got 100%!!! in the legal studies year 11 end of year. So, you can't always tell.

And even those words aren't all that large.

People who tease you...or call you stupid because you use large words are just proving how idiotic they are themselves.

Why tease someone for speaking correct English?

People only tease others who speak well because they themselves probably don't speak very well.

If you use good English...people understand you...you can get your point across...and you don't lose credibility with others.

I mean, for example...if I see someone on the boards who posts something like "so wen ru gonna do this?" or "u2 look sooooooooooooooo cute 2gether!"...I instantly think "moron".

Perhaps that's a wrong assumption...I mean, some people type like that, but don't talk like that in real life.

But I just think it's lazy...typing "u" instead of "you" and "ur" instead of "you are". It looks lazy and it gives the impression of stupidity.

That's why, whenever I see some huge speech someone's written (I think Gendo had it in his sig or something) and it's supposed to be very deep and profound...but it's riddled with "u" and "ur"...I can't help laughing. It is just so funny. It's like Mike Tyson giving a lecture to the United Nations...

Bottom line: You don't have to be smart. People are who they are. But you should at least try to be clear with other people...so that they understand what you mean. :)

I couldn't agree more with you James. Ah, I can't stand how people can use "u" or "ur". Even better, " 2b ". Honestly, I think that people who type like that are just idiots. How lasy can you be people?

Correct grammer is by far the best. The kids that tease you are either jealous because you can actually pronounce those words or just jackasses trying to look cool in front of you buddies. Keep on using those words, and you'll probably find yourself successful (unlike those kids who will probably be still working at fast food places). :box:

Just wanted to make a point on James' post;

Last week, I heard someone talking about how you can tell people on the internet are actually who they say they are, not just some 60 year-old pervert. The reason one person gave was 'they don't use the chat/text-type words', 'u, r, ur, y, r, 2, b' etc. I felt like throttling this person! Just because I'm above using such quick-words, and would prefer to use proper grammar, that makes me a Seedy Old man? Pathetic!

...stupid chat/text-type...

sorry but words are just 1 method of communication, u can not judge a person by the way they speak or type.
I only ever use my extended vocabulary when necessary, wheres the problem in talking in the best way to get a point accross to ppl of um...lesser knowledge (dumb asses and regular folk)

its not lazyness its a way of saving time, space on txt msgs so u dont go over word count, spelling words how they actually sound (u americans should know this with your spelling)

Save time? What...an extra five seconds? lol

That post, based on its language and spelling...gives the impression of stupidity, whether you like it or not.

So you see...people aren't judging the actual person based on how they type...but we're saying that it looks poor/lazy/stupid, etc...

not if your a slow typer like myself (for reasons i do not wish to divulge, but some ppl know) y do u think u americans started spelling words like colour as color, and socialisation as socialiZation, words are evolving so to speak, ones that are of little use are dying out, ppl instinctivly spell words how they sound as u are taught from an early age, the new shorter txt language will take over eventually. a literal war of the words.

Well, for starters...I'm not American. lol

I would absolutely hate it if the world began to write in the way that some type.

Your words also loose a great deal of expression and meaning when you type like that as well. They aren't only not as clear, but some of them are physically not actual words.

I can understand why people would type like that on say..SMS. But on the Internet, it's mostly avoidable.

If you are a slow typer...that's okay...but maybe you could take more time with your posts. I mean, it's not like you are rushing to get your post done in time for your first visit to outer space lol.

In any case, no matter how you try to justify it...it looks stupid. So even though it might save time or what not, it comes off as being slightly pointless to most people.

It's okay sometimes...but some members on OtakuBoards use text abbreviations in conjunction with poor spelling & grammar. And that only makes the typing itself worse. lol

well.. you would probably just think i'm an idiot then ^_^

I dont care if people "think" they are smarter then me.. aslong as they dont rub it in :p .. (like.. making a topic at a message board about how stupid i am :P and how much smarter/more mature then me they are! )

*does the chicken dance* .. :p i tend to do silly things all of the time.. but i not quite as stupid as people think.. i'm just trying to have a good time ^_^

.. guess what?..

........what?
heh..well in my opinion i don't get bothered by those things... most of the time...
when people act silly i don't care..but one thing..i DO get annoyed by stupidity...in some cases the stupidity is too strong for my taste and it gets so damn annoying *makes strangling motions* when they ask stupid question..... *breaks something* and when writing or typing they spell something TOTALLY wrong.....omg..can you say Phonics? (i think thats the right spelling O.o;; if not sue me) Phooooonics...PHONICS! god have they ever read a book in their life! sheesh...
so in other words silli-ness and stupidity fall under diff. categories for me:drunk:

EDIT: erm...is it just me or am i being hypocritical here... i'm stupid...and i can't spell :cross:

I find comfort in a nice balance of intelligence...people who aren't intellegent enough to make good conversation with aren't my kind of people I'd normally be friends with...but, then again...people who are too smart for their own good and find some kind of way to show that aren't my friends either. Bascically...it's not a crime to be an intellectual...but not being mature enough to deal with a gift or a disability is where the crime takes place. Being simple and understanding is best.

ha you should have been there when the fun kicked off at my school. Amongst alot of other words I said "synchronicity"

I know 'big words' but I chose no to use them because nobody else does. This does not however make me 'thick' as I am one of a very few people who can sit in my english class (the top group I might add) and understand practically every word that comes out of our teachers mouth. When everyone else turns round and says "Evasive? what does that mean miss? you sure it's a real word and you didn't just make it up" I'm sitting there muttering "you thick tw@ts you've got to have heard that before!" I'm not being nasty because I'm 'better' I'm just nasty cause they're the people that talk all through the lesson and yet you (someone who is not part of the gang and not 'better') dare utter a word and they literally scream "shut up! you're always talking! some of us would like to learn thank you! we don't want to end up in Mc Donald's with you!" :flaming: :flaming: :blackeye: :therock: :flaming: :flaming:

Erh.. Intelligence? Bah, I'm not too intelligent. Most people are smarter than me. So it would be pretty strange if I felt more intelligent than others...
