Ryan
I was recently reading a book when it mentioned that Dreams are really only 3 seconds long. This is a proven fact. I was thinking about this and wondered. When you are asleep it seems so long but it is actually really short. I wonder how this could be. It is very interesting.
Queen Asuka
I can believe that because sometimes I'll wake up and then go back to sleep and have the LONGEST dream and wake up and it's only been like 10 or 15 minutes. But 3 seconds can't be for ALL dreams...maybe just some. You can really PROVE how long a dream is, since you're not inside the person's head...

PiroMunkie
It is also said that a person has hundreds of dreams a night but doesn't remember a high majority of them. Hrmmm... maybe the 3 second thing is kinda like this one preview for this one odd movie that I saw. It was about this guy whose dad works for this company or something that makes secret high tech stuff, and then made a watch that can make a person move so fast that everything around them seems to have stopped, when really it's just going really slow. So it would be that a dream may be gone in seconds, but our mind moves so much faster than the dream that it seem longer than it actually is. :genius:

asar
3 seconds!! i find that hard to believe, unless of course the mind functions about a thousands times faster when you are asleep than it does when you are awake. I wish it was that fast when i was doing my maths homework!!!

I think thats really weird...cuz I always seem to have 1 llooonnnnggg dream that last me all night I will wake up in the middle of the night and the dream continues when I go to sleep...is that normal? Guest Voodookanaka
statistics lie...........pretty simple solution. after studying media, sociology and psychology i now dont believe anything said. i remember a book called 'lying with statistics' was a really good read, ill have to find out the author. i can remember a few dreams from when i was really little they lasted for about 5 minutes each. Every dream I have does seem to go on for a long time, but that doesn't mean that I notice that I fall asleep around midnight, have a seemingly long dream, then wake up and notice it's only 12:07am or something like that. In my sleep it seemed that the dreamlasted for hours, but for all I know it only took a few seconds to play in my mind... So maybe dreams do last only a few seconds, but our mind slows them down to where they last their 5 minutes or such, they slow down to actually see them as they go along. And this would go along explaining how a person could have hundreds of dreams a night and only remember one, if any. Even though a dream may last only a few seconds, our mind plays them out at a normal speed to where it takes up more time. And while this one dream is happening, all the others go on at the same time so we don't get the chance to see them at all. Makes sense enough... By the way, NoodleZ, try to cut down on your one sentence (if even that) posts. Simply agreeing or whatnot on a post is not really neccessary, try to expand on your thoughts. Thanks.

Queen Asuka
I agree with you Piro, because that was a really good thought about how they can all be going on at the same time and you only comprehend one because yeah, all that stuff you said. It sounds about right. But if you are REALLY interested in knowing how long a dream is, study that, it's not really that important to know anyway. It's interpreting dreams that I want to know about because I have some pretty weird ones. I had this dream about a girl and she stole a red prom dress and Anna totally explained to me about how the color red symbolized passion and something I didn't really want but this girl took from me, and it all connected to a situation that had just happened in real life. So yeah, interpretation is what's interesting.

Although I like to go for the long-winded version of it, lol. We do know that dreams do happen. We just don't know how often they occur. SO the people that actually study this kind of stuff, will study the brainwaves of people. Chances are the brain waves changed every so often due to a different dream happening. They could record let's say ten different patterns in brain waves in a one hour period, which shows that at least ten different dreams happened in that one hour period this person was asleep. But when they wake the person up, they can only recall one dream. So to the people that researched this, they record that the person had 1 of 10 recorded possible dreams. Although, it is probably more so that it was 1 of 134 dreams.

I think I know some of them though. Like I usually have dreams about me and one of my friends doing something like playing football. The friend in my dream has moved away so I think it is like saying that I miss him. Which is true since he was my best friend.

I believe that dreams have much deeper meanings that what they obviously are put out to look like and convey a deeper sense of longing or passion. I love having dreams, though. One night last week I dreamed I had a baby and then my sister had her baby a few days later. I also named that baby Anna, and seeing as how Anna is my best friend and the person I look to most for help, I think that dream meant something more than what I can comprehend.
velvet paws
Apparently if you stop dreaming altogether you go mad. I can't remember where I heard that..but I did. Ryan
The weird yet bad thing is that I rarely have dreams anymore. It makes me sad since I like having them. Except when I have nightmares. Once I had a dream it was 12:00 and I didn't know where my sister or parents were so I go walking to my kitchen where my phone is and i have to pass my back door and there is a wide window there. Well when I walk passed a guy appears on the otherside with a knife and he breaks through the window and he chases me outside in the dark and stabs me to death. God I was freaked out when I woke up. I could actually feel the knife going through my skin. It hurt bad!

Turkey
Congrats Baggee!:D On topic, my dreams are so weird that some people have recomended me to see a psichiatrist (sp?). Some examples: 1-I ride and tame a whale the size of Texas. 2-Two female vampires are prostitutes, and when they work, the client blows up. 3-I'm a pimp!:D 4-*This dream was deleted by an Otakuboards moderator*

With the 3 second thing, that's probably true, but then we don't stop dreaming for very long, like, 1 or 2 more seconds. Then the same dream starts up again, but the person doesn't notice that it even stopped. So with all the little dreams, which there could be thousands of, they make 1 big dream, and if we wake up, then the dream will stop, or, for some people, start up again. The reason is, my dreams last for hours. I don't fall asleep until about 12:00 every night, and before I fall asleep, I always look at the clock. Then, when I wake up, I look at it again, and it usually says something around 5:00 am, meaning that I was asleep for 5 hours, and my dreams usually last about that to me while I'm asleep. And this is probably just one of those crazy things I think.
