Guest Jana' Tolliver
I was wondering if anyone has, what is the game about?:)
Charles
I've done a little reading up on the game. The basic plot starts out as follows: Tomb Raider Next Generation is a three part adventure that begins in cosmopolitan Paris, where Lara Croft arrives only to be framed for a crime she apparently did not commit, and begins a hasty retreat through the dark Parisian underbelly relentlessly pursued by the authorities while attempting to piece together a puzzle surrounding the conspirators who seek her doom, vehemently led by the unscrupulous Eckhardt. Weaponless and without a penny to her name, Lara must negotiate her way through the initial segment of her adventure combining a desperate acquisition of apparel and hardware with a search for five 14th century paintings penned by the famous "Obscure Painter." Reportedly there's going to be new roleplaying elements implemented into the quest(attribute development). I find this to be good news, seeing as how the series needs a major overhaul in the gameplay engine. Also, there will be downloadable components added in the form of character development and plot details. Ah well, I hope that for Core's sake it all comes together. The series started out so well.... Like I said, I really hope that the series gets back on track. It's a shame to see such a promising franchise go down the tubes.
Spikey
..Well I have heard of it lots of times, I haven't played it though. lol. But thank CWB (crazy White Boy) lol.
Guest Solid Snake
Finally, someone else who has heard of the game. I first learned about it in the Official Playstation Magazine #54, March Edition, and it gave a detailed description more or less the same as Crazy White Boy, here. The only Tomb Raider that I currently own is The Last Revelation for Dreamcast, which I got tired of ages ago, and I hope that this new one goes in a new and better direction as an RPG for one of the next generation systems. I thank you for putting this topic up. :blah:
Charles
I have some more good news regarding this title. It seems as if the series will ditch it's frustrating gameplay and switch over to something more Zelda and Marioish. There's also going to be a second playable character named Curtis Trent. Supposedly, you can switch between the two. This guy's even going to have his own spin-off series too.. The biggest shocker of all is that this Tomb Raider game is the first of five in the new story. Sounds like Eidos and Core are about to repeat their mistakes all over again. Sure, the first one might be great, but if they simply update the same gave over and over like before, I'll only be playing to purposely make Lara jump off of a cliff.
I would call this rather unfortunate news, which will bring more harm than good. It could be nice in the fact that they have changed the style to more "Marioish," and that we now have character options to choose from one person to another. However, this move just may be their final. With the new style of game play, it will most likely turn off old fans of the series, which will be a huge crash in the selling. But this isn't the worst part. I find it discouraging that Eidos and Core have even thought about making four sequals to a game that has yet to be released. They must expect, supposedly, that everything will run smoothly with each and every game. We should know that this is not always the case, and that if, let's say, the first one fails, then it will spawn the fate of the rest of the games, ending their project plans. I do hope that they come to their senses, and wait to see how the first game goes before even thinking about making a next one. :blah:

It seems to me like Eidos is "counting its chickens before they're hatched." My biggest concern with the series is that the first new installment will restore Tomb Raider to prominence and the following games will be nothing more than cash-ins(subtle upgrades). Guaranteeing a new series for a character that the public hasn't even seen is also quite ambitious. Eidos really has a tendency to run its franchises into the ground. I just hope that they've learned from their mistakes. Anyway, the character switching is supposed to be done like the switching in the Oddworld game for the X box. If it is done right, I suppose it could really add a lot of complexity to the game.

Charles
I just noticed some new information on the game at IGN in case anyone's interested.
Dubbed Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness, Core's new adventure title features the ever-shapely Lara Croft in darker and more casual clothes, such as jeans, and a more realistic body model, which looks slightly more like Angelina Jolie. New attributes in her itinerary include a better sense of speed and better strength, along with the ability to speak with more AI characters.
I think the new title is a heck of a lot better than the working title. Also, it's nice to see that Lara's finally wearing clothes that make sense for her adventure. Considering how Lara's not portrayed as a bimbo, for the lack of a better term, it'll make sense to see her walking the streets in jeans as opposed to shorts whose size rivals that of a jockstrap. The added boost in speed will also do the series some good, especially if they make turning less of a chore. Well, we'll see.....
