Ok, here are the specs for the new Hard Disk Drive (HDD) and Network Adapter for the PS2...

Network Adapter

Price: $39.95 US
£40 TBC UK

Release date: November 2001 US
February 2002 TBC UK

Features: 56k modem or Ethernet adapter for connecting the PS2 to the internet.

Hard Disk Drive

Price: $200 TBC US
£200 TBC UK

Release date: November 2001 TBC US
February 2002 TBC UK

Features: 40Gb of storage capicity.

These dates may be a bit old, but anywho... the price is just way too much for HDD, as much as a PS2 now! One very good thing about the HDD is that it has 40 GIGABYTES of memory (no more memory cards). You know those 10Mb memory cards you buy? Well this is like 4000 times better :D.

Also, a really, really bad point. You have to spend (all in all) about $/£240 to actually be able to play online games. The only game I'd use it for is Final Fantasy XI, but... I think that is too much money just to play one game. I will scan a pic of it in.

Well, SG, you can also play other games. I'm not too big on the PS2, but I know THPS3 is gonna go online, and then there's FFXII, and FFXIII, *continues rambling*
Yeah... but I mostly want it for XII :)

the £40 price tag isn't too bad considering it was originally going to cost £100....
Ah yes, but you need the HDD with the Network Adapter... that is much money. Much.

I think (I stress on the word 'think') that I heard somewhere that only a few games are actually going to work online... if so then.. doesn't that mean that we may end up paying more to modify the PS2 to play these games online, than on the games themselves (I mean, I heard there was only 3 being planned.. anyone who knows otherwise feel free to correct me...).

Another thing! the price in US$ is the same number as the price in UK£... despite the fact that sterling is worth more... do they hate us or what? (and yes.. I do realise that this is to be confirmed)

OK... end of rant.

I hope they'll broaden their options on online connectivity with FFXI...I don't really want to spend money on a hard drive unless the PS2 goes fully online with browser, e-mail, music downloads and everything. But still...$200 does seem like a small price to pay to get that much storage.

Yeah, but still that is a good chunk of money. They would make alot of money if it went fully online people would use it more than they would use the comp.
dunno about that... ok.. people who don't have a computer would have no incentive to get one, but I think that those who do would probably use the computer more... I may be wrong, but that's my opinion.

Where does the network adaptor plug into? hmm, I always thought it would be coupled with the harddrive as a small package that fits into the expansion bay.
There are two different ways. One is the extrenal modem. It plugs into the back, it's large, heavy, clunky, and you have to put it on top of your PS2(That's one of the main reasons for the sliding tray).

The other way is the more expensive way. The internal modem, in which you have to open up the system. Personally, I'd get the external. Not as much work to do. Even though the internal is more effecient..

And yes, Sony IS going to broaden the online games. Remakes, most likely. I hear they are going to make one of the Strike games online, but it's just a neighborhood rumor; it's unconfirmed.

So booyaka! Err.....I mean 'I hope this helps'.. Yeah.....lol!
