What you say is excessive use of alcohol, which we already have noted would really wreak havoc on your body. I am not even talking about excessive use, as I keep repeating.

And I do have the article about the benefits of red wine, as well as beer. Yes, they are real scientific research as well.

Ok, so my decisions are now wrong :whoops:

Let me make it perfectly clear: I do not drink to be cool or to fit in. I started drinking because I was curious about it, and I enjoyed myself. :)

I could go off about all the RIGHT decisions I make in life, but I won't waste any time on a 'holier than thou' attitude.

I'm really not trying to be defensive, but it's really really hard at the moment...I apologize for anything rash I say, but if I DO post something rash, I probably mean it so there's really no point in excusing it I guess.
BabyGirl...it's still wrong...But I'm not saying that you're doing it to be cool and to fit in. I guess you already do that enough on your own without having to drink and show off. But this is just my opinion on the matter. Everyone gets curious, and I guess you DID enjoy yourself, but I myself didn't...and even though I have myself tried it, even if I hadn't, I'd still say it was wrong. It doesn't matter if you are defensive or not, I don't want you to think that I'm trying to drag you in the ground and put myself higher than you and make myself seem better, you know what I'm saying. I just got a little irritated when I read three different posts where someone comes back and says "Oh I posted that when I was drunk, so it doesn't matter now"....

In defense of QA, and also b/c I pretty much share her opinion, this whole topic isn't like, meant to condemn anyone. There isn't anything 'holier than thou' about it, I've never personally claimed to be almighty and above flaw or anything, but I find drinking to be a not-smart thing to do. And no this does not denote that person drinking is stupid necessarily (I'm referring mostly to the exceptional drunkards, no one here personally), but that 'buzz' feeling is you losing your rational thought, and I dunno......... I like being in control of my body. And some may think 'well, I drink BECAUSE I'm in control of my body', but you're not in control when you give up a bit of your consciousness like that. So, when you can't think or act in your normal frame, your putting yourself up for more risks......kinda risky, neh? And noooooooo not EVERY time you drink is something BAD gonna happen, but really, is that little buzz worth it? Really really??! To each their own, but this really isn't meant to say 'oh we're better than you b/c we're anti-alcohol' or whatever. In a left-handed way it's kinda like 'why are you doing this, it's not good for you, we wish you wouldn't because you might get hurt some day.'

EXACTLY...that's the whole point. For the people that have been around here for a while, I believe everyone is on a friendly level. It's just a thought of opinion and then trying to be helpful and not CONDEMN....so yeah I agree with you Anna. It's hard to put this into words dang it..

Indeed I know it's wrong, and I still do it...I won't try to excuse this either, so I'll just say that and be quiet.

And I know my post was one of the ones you were referring to, that's why I got so upset. It felt, whether you realized this or not, like a personal attack on me. I know you didn't mean it this way, but believe me, that's what it sounded like.

I've calmed down a bit about it because I realize everyone will always have their different views. I just hope, Queen Asuka, that in the future you don't have to get so irritated by things like that, especially when they're made by a single person on what to do to their own body. But that's just a thought...I'm not trying to tell you what to do, merely what to consider :whoops:

Consequently, I will consider not drinking as much, but I already don't drink that much as it is, so I can't really implement that...I still want to have my fun while I drink, so I don't think I will cease the behavior. Some may condemn me for it, but that is ok. It's ultimately my decision anyway :p

Okay, so what you're saying is that alcohol- okay I'll be specific- read wine and beer are healthier than water and a run?? Because if they are then, well I've been going about being in shape all wrong haven't I! And if not, then WHY BOTHER? Seriously, if you want to be healthy, you'll do the things that will accomplish that best.

Well thank God you're being rational about this because I don't want to get on your bad side just because I'm stating my own personal opinion...like I say all the time...to each his own, ya know? It wasn't a personal attack on you, it just shocked me to find out that you did something like that. I never saw you as that type of person. I figured you was pretty clean cut, and I guess you still are because you really, like you said, don't do it often. But next time you're about to, please consider how others feel about it. You'll be a much better person without it and people will look up to you more for not doing it.

Why is drinking good?
The Americn Heart Association found that by consuming one glass of red wine a day you can drastically reduce the risk of heart disease, which as we all know, is the leading cause of death in the US

The American Medical Association found that occasionally consuming an alcoholic beverage that contains a high carbohydrate ratio such as beer or a malt beverage in combination with tomato in its cooked form, helps reduce the risk of kidney damage and liver failure

So why is drinking BAD???

That's because I'm a rational person most of the time. I was prematurely blinded by a little slap in the face, but after I got all of that posting out of my system, I felt better, and was able to see much clearer. This is the first thread since the one that Will2x started about "Would you keep your kid if it was retarded" that has made me so upset...I totally blew up in that one...

Well, sorry to make you upset, that wasn't my intention. It's not like I'm deliberatley posting threads just to get on certain people's nerves. This was a topic I felt I needed to get out of my system and off my chest because it's been bothering me for a while. See, thing is, I had two pretty close friends who were influenced by this older girl to get into this type of stuff and now they can't live without it and they always say they are going to quit and then they can barely make it to the weekend without a drink. It's disheartening....

Ever heard of a Bloody Mary? ;)

I like the way most of us have picked up ourselves in this topic and come to agree, or at least tolerate one another's opinions. 'Tis a very good sign.

As for the whole "drinking is good for you" thing: Yes. Drinking alcohol in moderation is very good for your heart. Whether or not its better than a good old-fashioned run, I can't say, but it won't do you any damage.

For everything else: I've stated my opinion already.

..... -.- *sigh* yes, see we're juniors, and two of our friends last year got to be pretty close to this one girl who is now a senior. Anyway, she was like, a partier, pretty, on drill team, blah blah whatever else, and that rubbed off on them, the party stuff. So, over this past summer and pretty much throughout the year, just about every weekend there'd be a party, and they'd be there. They NEVER did drank until this girl got them to, and yeah, they drank becasue she pressured them! She has outrightly stated on many occasions that it is her 'hobby' to 'corrupt people'. That just ........ makes me mad.... because now I look at my friends..... and they're not the same people. No they're not sloppy drunks, but they can't stop. I'm just afraid something bad's going to happen,.... I also have a friend who was raped when she was drunk, so I guess this also furthers my anti-alcohol view, if you could imagine that.

Also....they only do it because they get lots of attention from the guys because of it and it gives them an excuse to make out with lots of guys and then say that they don't remember what they did when they know damn well that's the whole reason that they did it in the first place...And they were some of the best and smartest people before this girl "corrupted" them, and I'm scared something's going to happen to them.

Actually, when this drink is prepared, it's most likely at bars or sophisticated parties where the goal isn't to get drunk, but to enjoy ones self. It takes a LOT of alcohol to not be able to taste what you are drinking, because that is a stage I have never been at. I assume people drink a Bloody Mary for the taste, not because they can't taste it at all...

There you have it. Thank you, Heaven's Cloud, for that one. It seems, though, that some people are still adamant towards the healthful side of drinking. Not excessive, mind you--one glass is not even considered to be going to excess. Now, since we have the facts there, it is really up to you whether or not you would like to follow it. I see no reason to argue about facts, but then some here have their own preferences, so let it be.
