REAL Adult Anime.

I was just wondering, How many of you watch the Adult Anime (the real adult kind not this crap they say is for adults on adult swim) like Akira and Vampire Hunter D. True some may think these and others are not that bad, but the viloence and topics is nothing a kid should be seeing. I am not quite old enough to be classified as an adult but I watch them.

When I mean Adult Anime, I mean stuff that would and some is, rated R. So, yes, there is nothing wrong with someone under the age of 17 watching it but Im not sure where it should stop. I guess Ill go ahead and try to make this make sense. Do you watch it? If your under 18 are you allowed to watch it? Also I like the feel of the Anime's cause it puts off the feeling of, "Hey, this is no cartoon!"

These questions are nothign important, I was just wondering how big the fan base was for Mature anime. Please, post your comments on anything related.

I whatch them, but of course im legaly old enough to whatch them. I think if your parets let you whatch it then it´s ok couse i have found 14 year old persons that are more "mature" than some older folks.
I personally like Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D, Akira, Wiched City and so many others. But the kidi anime is better if you are looking for a good laught so i say i whatch them bot.
Ninja Scroll is most defently NOT for kid.

Yes, I agrea with you Merchent. I will turn 17 later this year. I think its 17 that you have to be to purchase and watch R rated material. Right now, I f I buy it I still have to get a parent to buy it for me. Witch I agrea with the system but it has a few problems. We need to have like a little card or something we can get from a parent that tells the store clerks we are allowed to buy it. But thats beside the point. Back on subject, I have a little cousin who is almost 10. He loves anime and when he comes over we watch some anime DVD's I have but he knows that certain anime dvd's I have are off limits. I told him when I thought he was mature enough I would show them to him. (Cause you know Vampire Hunter D and others too, are some of the best out there).

I still like the main fact off they are more like what most people consider, A real movie. I still like other animes like Gundam and Esceflowne. But these animes are also really aimed at teenagers. That is untill they pass through the american meat grinders(editors). Some I just cant watch cause they seem too childish. Not to hurt anyones feelings with this but some of those are like: Pokemon and Dragonball. Well I guess I will shut up now although you probably fell asleep reading this a couple of lines up.

Whoa when i read the titale of this post I thought it was gonna be about hentai....
I am only 16 and will be 17 soon enough.. But I watch anime movies that are rated R.. i mean the people selling them think they are seseless cartoons... and don't know anybetter.. But in san Diego about ayear ago this kid got in deep **** for buying Akira or something.. and his parent saw it and fliped and got the person who sold it to him fired.. which is really stupid..
i just thinkthat people who don't know wat anime is REALLY about are ignorant and should go away and not try to make sense of something that have no information about..becaseu it makes them sound even more ignorant completely stupid....

Yep, that banner is pretty sweet.
I think many parents there in the US are very dumb, i will never understand why the fuzz is with all that stuff that they say, i mean having one person fired is plain evil if you ask me, and why? becouse he bougth a movie that eventually he would have seen anyway.
Back to topic, i agree, this movies are more like a real movie and so more enjoyable.
How about Vampire hunter D: blood lust? i just MUST see that movie soon...

Main thing is. Parents need to understand their kids. As long as someone is mature engouh, I do not see a problem with it and their should not be. But we all know that many 17 year olds are not mature enough to be watching R rated movies too. Someone asked me before, if I would let my son watch it when he was a teenager. I told them, If I thought he was mature enough, yes. That mostly depends on how kids are tought too.

Me and my friend went to the mall tuesday, he wanted to buy max pain. I told him he probably could not since we were not seventeen yet. He tried anyway and the store clerk told him he couldn't. Well we went and got his mom to come up there to purchase it. The clerk when into all details explaining the game to her about the mature stuff in it. (of course he did a real good job of making it look worse then it actually is, because I have thwe game I know.) She did not want him to buy it. I know that this makes alot of kids angry but this was a good thing. We all get mad at the stores for doing this but you have to remember the kids who (a) have bad parents, or (b) have ways of sneaking around an getting things behind their backs. Then he wantwed to come over and play it. I have known my frined for several years and I dont doupt one second that he was to imature to handle a game like that, but his mom just didnt like the content of the game. Even if the store clerk would have let him buy it. He knows that his mom doesnt like that stuff. I know for a fact she would have seen him playing it and got really mad and took it from him. This is how you parent. You dont go fire the clerk, you do your job. Sorry for this long example, but i thought it would be good to share it.

they mainly try to do it to not corrupt kids...
did anyone see the O'Riley factor on thursday?it was baout the corruption of kids in the Us.. it was really funny how ignorant he is..but alot of people wil never get us.. I mean we are a generation wher nothing really freaks us out cuz we've already seen it done....but the older generation just doesn't get it... and they think we are corrupt because of it

I saw the original Vampire Hunter D, but not Bloodlust.

Anyway, I think that what Pixie said about the older generation is right. My dad freaked out when he saw me watching my animé DVDs (a few of them have partial nudity and really suggestive content) the first time, but I told him that this is just like any other program on TV, only that I happen to like this even more. After that, he accepted that I was mature enough for R animé.

I've played all kinds of MA games and they haven't affected me in any way.

Yeah my parents about had two cows each in my bedromm floor the day they saw me watching mine. I told my parents that I was old enough to understand what I am seeing and know the difference between movies and life. they said, okay. I also play mature games and I am fine. Somehow I dont have the mysterious violent urges to kill inmnocent people like the media says I should have.....interesting....

Im 16, I watch it, I see no problem with anyone watching it as long as they aren't clinically insane and can't differenciate between reality and the Anime Show. I actually started watching anime from *sighs* Dubbed Dragon Ball Z and have worked my way into things like Lain, Akira, Perfect Blue, etc etc.

The thing is that the media wants to have something to blame when bad stuff happens, scince they can´t blame the real source of the trouble, wich it´s society itself, they blame videogames becouse is the easy way.
The fact is, and recents studies say so too, that us, videogamers have less problems in the world and why? becouse insted of grabing a gun and killing people when we are angry we just take a good game and beging release the stress that causes our anger.

My parents have no clue what type of anime I watch, and frankly they don't care. I am 12, they know whatever I am watching I can handle it. Hell, they picked me out a movie called Bio-Hunters, when it said Briefe Nudity right on the case. I remember like 3 or 4 years back I was watching "Tree of might" and my mom was not happy when Turles said hell. Basically, they don't care but they don't want to hear it/ see it themselves, do you understand, what I am trying to say?

I've seen my share of Adult Anime, but I do not like to watch the ones with aliens who have free-roaming tentacles, if you catch my drift. That's just sick, if you ask me. But yeah, I've seen stuff like Akira, and Perfect Blue. I've seen stuff on the Action Channel, which is more geared for adults than anything else. Of course, Adult anime doesn't seem to have the most beautiful animation, though, because it's supposed to be serious looking. That's one reason why I don't prefer it.

Haha, I thought you meant Hentai @_@. Personally, I find a lot of that simply stupid.

I was generally under the impression that a good half of Anime is "adult" orientated. If by "adult" you mean more mature themes (and generally lots of violence it seems).

Stuff like Vampire Hunter D, Perfect Blue, Akira, Appleseed, Jin-Roh etc... They are generally easy to find. I'd also recommend Boogiepop Phantom which is simply excellent. Golgo 13 (Not the Queen Bee sequel) is also very cool if you can deal with the insane amount of sex scenes. Serial Experiments Lain is also very good... I don't know if most would consider it adult, but it was a very comlpex series. Junkboy was HILARIOUS if you can find it. As far as I know it's not even on DVD. Then there is anime like Hell Boy, Plastic Little (very dumb) and others that are adult for various reasons.

Animation quality always depends on the studios and the money involved honestly. I don't think anyone would argue the quality of Bloodlust; but it seems anime that is friendly to younger people gets a bigger push and thus more money, which of course equals better production values.

(P.S. - The plural of anime is anime. The Japanese don't pluralize nouns like we do ;). Eh, doesn't matter I guess haha.)

;) Hmm most people, but I think I can rival that!:p Anyway yes I watch adult anime, not the type that is classified as Hentai, Ecchi, or anything with tenticles in it but I do watch the more mature animes, and have been doing so for quite awhile now!:)

I guess I have been watching Anime for about 2 and a half years. I guess thats not that long compared to some. Anyway, Yeah the media always blames something besides people. Peopel dont like to hear, "You caused this because your a bad parent." They like to hear, " It was not you fault that your son blew away 5 of his classmates. It was the video game that persuaded him to do it. Not the fact that you where never home, stayed out late and got drunk, or just plainly did not parent your kid."

Sorry, I did not mean for the topic to give them impression I was reffering to hentai.

I think the big difference is Culture. American culture sees cartoons. They see Animated bugs bunny running around and they see simba. Thats the kind of stuff we have seen here in America. Japanese Culture includes Anime. They see the stuff aimed at kids, then they see stuff aimed at teens, and finally they see stuff aimed at Adults. America has never had that. All we have seen since Animation was developed, is 90% Disney. Thats why with this sudden flow of Anime in the country, tv stations like CN has to put warning up every where, or either edit the hell out of them. The average middle aged mother is gonna let their child sit down watching Cartoon Network- which for an American mother means alot of kiddie shows that can occupy her kid with out exposing him to any thing violent or vulger- is shocked and upset when she see an Anime on that is aimed at a teen audience. This is understandable. But it is ridiculous when they feel they have to make some big issue out of it. If you dont like dont let your kid watch it. He may see it anyway, but when he is old enough to find out he can get away with watching it with out his mother knowing, he is probably old enough to not be effected by it, if it has an effect at all.

One last thing, I thik it stupid how everything blew up over the games and movies. It is plain to see that congress men and other goverment officials are quick to blame something other then society. A few parents protest about games are too violent. Well bingo theres a scape goat for the congressmen. All the shooting can now be blamed on something so congressmen and senators can make it LOOK like they are doing something constructive and trying to end these shootings. When actually all there doing is pissing the gamers of America off. So know when we are old enough to vote, we will be voting them the hell out of office. They over look the fact that Over hafl of the population of teens are vivid gamers. So when we reach the age to vote, where gonna remember how they blamed everything on the gaming industries. This shows how intelligent our Goverment leaders are. Because if they were smart, they would be trying to get on our good side. Becuase the youth of the nation will be the workers of the nation pretty soon, and we will be the one electing people to take office. I know I will make note to not vote for anyone who blamed all this on games and movies. I want vote for them or anyone associated with them. Cause that alone shows, they dont care about improving American society, they only care about making it look like they care and are trying to help.

:: takes a couple of breathes ::

okay, I am through harping on this now. Sorry to be so long winded, I get rellly fired up over this topic.

The thing I always found strange is that Japan is the SOURCE of anime and most games. A good deal of which are violent, and at times wind up on lists of games Senators complain about. They also show far more sex than we do; I know that there are some normal channels that show porn at night (although with mosaics).

All this and Japan has very few violent crimes.

I think our American culture as whole is just messed up badly, and there is no going back. Just gotta deal with that government BS and put it behind you I guess; especially since despite all the complaining activists do, games, movies and music aren't going anywhere.

Hmm....well to my understanding a couple of years ago the networks and FCC I think that is the group that deals with censoring got together to create the tv rantings that appear on the top of the screen, ranging from TV-PG, Tv-14, Tv-Y7, ect...! I also grasp the idea that it is the parents responsibility to infact monitor what there kids watch including anime, but unfortuantely until a true anime network is made or something like that many of the people who do not have a great amount of exposure to anime, will keep watching the dub, censored, cut version and really miss out on a lot, it is a bit annoying but unforutantely that is the way the FCC and other companies work, and because of this group, parents will blame Anime, and Tv for the actions of their kids when in reality they should be blamming themselves!
