Bad dungeons! Be gone!

I like the dungeons in the game boy Zelda games. They have some pretty good puzzles that make you feel proud of yourself when you solve them.

Plus with the GB they are somewhat limited on how far they can improve on the dungeons, especialy making them as good as OoT (it would be hard to fight a boss like Queen Gohma with a top view perspective.)

And besides, runing around dungeons is what Zelda games are about.

Heh. I already own both Golden Sun and Breath of Fire. I have over 30 GB games dating back to the first ones. Yes dungeons are what they are about, but the GB games are advancing as the GB does. If they bring Zelda out for GBA, I bet something new will happen.

Then again, Zelda DX may be my favorite GBC game.

Every Zelda game is mainly dungeons. Maybe not so much Majora's Mask, but OoT, Link to the Past, and the first one (I don't remember anything about Zelda II, so I'm not going to include it here) had three times as much dungeon as... er... not dungeon. >.<

But the Gameboy games usually have only 8 dungeons. OoT has 10, not counting the Well or Ganon's Tower. Counting those, it would be 12. So OoT actually makes you spend more time in dungeons. So, the by standards you seem to have, how could OoT be better?

MM only has 4 main dungeons, yes, and you spend a lot less time in dungeons because of it. But really, 4 dungeons made the game pretty short, and a lot more boring. Too may siedquests. I mean, sidequests are a good distraction, but they shouldn't overpower the main quest, in my opinion...

Umm... no, Ocarina of Time only has 8 dungeons... There's Inside the Great Deku Tree, the Dodongo's Cavern, Jabu Jabu's Belly, the Forest Temple, the Fire Temple, the Water Temple, the Shadow Temple, and the Spirit Temple. That makes 8, all together... There are smaller "sub-dungeons," though. These are the Ice Cavern, the Bottom of the Well, the Gerudo Training Ground, and Ganon's Castle (I think that's all of them).

Personally, I like the Game Boy Zelda games how they are. In Link's Awakening, there's actually quite a bit to do, besides dungeons. There's lots of places to explore, there's the Secret Shells to collect, there's the trading sequence, and other stuff. Same with the Oracle games, for the most part. In the Oracle games, there are lots of Rings to collect, and the trading sequence, although it does seem like there isn't quite as much exploring. It seems like you're pretty much pointed to the next dungeon, in them (it gives you a hint for finding the next one, after all). But, there's still lots of secrets to find and other stuff besides dungeons.

I hear there will be a few dungeons in the new Zelda for GCN.
Yeah, I've heard that too. Don't know if it's true, though (there really isn't any way to know, yet). I'd really like it if it had the full 8 dungeons, plus a bunch of side-quests. Kind of like combining aspects from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, only without that stupid time limit.

I think for the time, they should have a one week cycle of days, which repeats. Kind if like Majora's Mask, only with seven days and it just repeats by itself, you wouldn't have to warp back. I think that would be really cool, because you could have stuff like the Anju & Kafei side-quest in Majora's Mask.

The dungeons are cool. They're hard sometimes, but that's a good thing. You don't want to be constantly finishing each level so quick that you beat the game in but a few days. If anything, they should be a tad bit harder; due to the fact that I have beaten Ages, Seasons, and the Linked game.

Yes. I have beaten them too. But wearily, you can make a decent RPG without the dungeons. Sidequests can make the game long anc complicated like they do in Golden Sun. In Golden Sun, there's puzzles you must solve along on your side quests which, I must say, are way funner than the dungeons. Yet, the dungeons are a trademark of the Zelda series. ^^

I think what The Harlequin means, is that the feeling of the dungeons is different that the rest of the game. When you're in a dungeon, you're cut off from the outside world; you're alone, there's no one to help you, and there's lots of monsters at every turn. It gives it a certain feeling that you can't get any other way, I think. That's actually one of the reasons I like the dungeons. Sure, I really like exploring the overworld and most side-quests, but the game just wouldn't be complete without the dungeons. It'd be like playing half a Zelda game...

Well, all have different opinions. Maybe just a few dungeons would work for me.
They did just that, with Majora's Mask on the Nintendo 64. There are only four main dungeons, with a couple optional sub-dungeons. The main part of the game seemed to be the side-quests, and focused on helping the townspeople.

You know what, though? Majora's Mask didn't do as well as Ocarina of Time did... So, I'm expecting the standard eight dungeons in the GCN Zelda game that's coming out this fall... As for the GB/GBC Zelda games, all three of them did very well, so I don't think we'll be seeing much of a change anytime soon. It's been shown that people like the dungeons, since people just keep buying the games, so they probably don't see any need to drastically change the basic layout of the game. If they make another Zelda game for the GBA with the same basic layout as the three GB/GBC Zelda games (with the standard eight dungeons), and it doesn't do very well, then I think there'd be a good chance of the dungeon layout getting changed. Until something like that happens, though, I don't think the dungeon layout will change too much.

Change is good, since you don't just want the same basic game over and over, but I think they've found a good formula and are sticking with it. I can't blame them, though, since the games are doing so well. If people buy them how they are now, then there's not really any reason to change them. I think that as long as they get a decently different storyline, most people won't mind the same dungeon layout over again.

The makers of the zelda games need to keep the dungeons. Because like someone was saying it seperates it from the rest of the games. But I was sooo disapointed when I played Majora's Mask. It took me three days to beat that game, Because I had to go somewhere so it took me slightly longer then expected. But any way I was so mad because it only had four dungeons and they were really easy. And the side games were really dumb, (getting the masks.) I think the only thing I liked on that game was turning into the zora and swimming around.
