I like how these religions of many year ago to these civilizations are now considered mythology.... do you think that in future year, Christianity and all other religions of our time will be considered... Mythology?....

Anyway, my favorite would have to be Egyptian and Greek.... Minoan I guess too... some weird things there... I'm taking Mythology over the summer at school, so YAY!

Haha!!! You and I are on the same page TN. When I first saw the question, my immediate response was going to be that I found Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism to be the most fascinating of all mythology...then I was going to sit back and watch the flaming of yours truly begin;)

But, I guess I enjoy the tales of Ancient Greece and the Norse myths more then any others

Well i don't see why one can't call them Mythology.... I mean... the Greeks, Egyptians, ROman, this that or the other people all found their gods and goddesses to be just as real as Christians precieve their God to be. They all had their sacred texts that they followed... well in the Egyptian's case, paper wasn't invented when they first came about, but while they were still in existance.... papyrus paper that is... but still... anyway back to the point... they all felt as strongly, if not stronger to their gods/goddesses as modern day religions do.... there's not much difference besides those religions aren't practiced anymore.... Maybe one day, Christianity won't be practiced anymore... then... it will just be thought of as Mythology?... I'd like to see that day myself... however I know I won't... In fact I don't think anyone n the next thousands of years will... not till something drastic happens to the earth... or God just comes down and tells everyone to shut up or something lol.

The term Mythology is kinda rude. Those people put their lives for theirs gods... they followed everything, did everything for MANY MANY years... and the respect we give them is "mythology"? Blah... oh well.... one day all your religions will be considered mythology, I think.... how will you feel then?

There are other differences?

Oh goodness.. I'm going to start yet another Religious War in the threads.. I'm imfamous for those.. I should stop rambling now.. anyway back to the topic..

I'm a HUGE fan of Greek and Egyptian Mythology.. I have no life so I take up my time by reading book after book of Mythology.. In the sixth grade I had to be transfered to another class during our Mythology unit.. because I kept correcting the teacher.. ^-^;;

I've read just about every Greek myth there is.. know most of them by heart.. and can usually recite them for my friends upon command.. I've also always loved reading about the Ancient Egyptian gods and customs.. perhaps not so much the myths as the gods..

Celtic myths are intriguing to me because they are my backround and birthright.. but I don't put effort into learning them..

It is very annoying to listen to someone who keeps saying the wrong stuff.
I have a History teacher who is from AUS and she knows NOTHING about Indian culture. I explained a lot of stuff and my mom was:wigout: What!!! when she saw all the worksheets i got home:)

My favorite Mythology by far is Egyptian. Roman and Greek is good too. But thats all I like. I have read a little Japanese Mythology on Dragons but that is all that draws my interest.

I think Any Religion we have could be considered a Mythology in the future. Back then their Religion was as real to them as ours is today. the greater we advance in technology the greater amount of knowledge we gain. I would not be suprised if in the future say about 1000 years we do not grow in knowledge so much we start TRUELLY believing that we are the Gods ourself.

Also, these so called religous wars are stupid. I wish people would no go into it like that whenever a post like this is posted unless its specifically for debate. People have a natural right of thought. They may beleive whatever they want. This is true in all countries, you can not police the mind (though some try). No matter what you think is right, it may not be someone elses idea of right.

when i was a kid it was greek mythology. there was this special encyclopedia we had that had a big greek myth section (which i'm sure my parents didn't know about) & i read & re-read it non-stop. it used to make me sad, b/c i wished that stuff was real instead of my parents' religion.

nowadays i love reading hindu mythology. i guess polytheism makes the most sense to me, but i also like the all-in-one aspect.

my next research mission is celtic mythology. i already know quite a bit about it, but not enough.

Michael Crichton pointed out something very interesting in oneof his noevls. His characters were talking about science, and the mathematican said something along the lines of how in the future, people were going to laugh at us for believing in protons and electrons and stuff, just like we laughed at the people 50 years before us for believing what they did in science at the time.

So with religion as a mythology goes science as a mythology.

Now, here is a typical Greek Mythology fan...Hercules is Roman...Heracles is the person I think you are reffering to. I don't know where American society got those two so mixed up.

Anyway...my favorite mythology would ancient Norse and Celtic. Most of my ancestry is Celtic and the rest that I've traced is Norse, so...meh...I like going back to my roots. :)

By the way...if anyone ever wants to find a good account on the customs of the ancient Norsemen, or as most would called them "Vikings"...I reccomend Eaters of the Dead...or any of the other collections of the Ibn Fadlan manuscript.

So, people will find something better than science to explain stuff?!?!

I love you, Justin.

Meh, I'm not a huge fan of any mythology, really...I love reading all of it, and I'll go on a kick for six months, or a year, where I'll devour everything I can find about Egyptian Mythology, or Greek and Roman Mythology [I did a paper on that, parallels between the two, once...It wasn't a great paper, I was only in sixth grade or something...but it was a paper, nonetheless...]

Fairy tales are fun, as well. When you get to them in their old forms, not the *gag, choke* Disney-fied ones.

My mom's side is Irish, Scottish, and whatnot, so that's always fun, though I hardly claim to know much about the subject. I'm a fan, not an expert.

For anyone intersted in Mythology--and some fun reading--try Applegate's EverWorld series. Mixing and matching different mythologies...I wouldn't cite it as an infalliable source, or anything, but I loved it...
