tronix
For anyone who has a Gamecube and a Gameboy Advance, whatis the advantage of using a GBA as a GC controller? Are there any special functions and/or mini games? Is it better or worse?
Guest Imsirion
I hear its supposed to be like the n64 controller and transfer pack thing, ya know.
Charles
Well, it can be used to pick plays in sports games, kind of like how the VMU worked for the DreamCast. Also, I'm sure it can be used to raise those little Chao critters in Sonic Adventure 2.
Fall
I haven't exactly tried it, though I think it would be hard to use it as a controller, if you're already used to the original GCN Controller.....
Break
I heard that it shows the picture from the GCN onto the GBA screen. I dunno, maybe.

Mybe with that system James posted...
Desbreko
I don't think you're going to be using the GBA as a controller for the GCN, at least not like you're thinking. There are/will be uses for linking the GCN and GBA, though. I'll list some of them: 1. In Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (GCN), and Sonic Advance (GBA), you can transfer Chao from one to the other. This lets you raise your Chao on the go, plus there's a few other things you can do, I think. 2. In Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble 2 for the GCN (not yet released), you'll get a special tilt cartridge with the GCN game. Then, if Kirby falls off an edge on the TV screen, he'll fall onto the GBA screen. From there, you have to get him back up to the TV screen on the GBA. 3. Like CWB said, you'll be able to pick plays and stuff like that in sports games. 4. You'll no doubt be able to tranfers Pokémon to and from the GCN and GBA Pokémon games (both have yet to be released). You'll probably be able to use it for other games in much the same way, also. Such as you could use the Transfer Pak on the N64 to transfer character data from the GBC Mario Golf and Mario Tennis games to the N64 Mario Golf and Mario Tennis games. 5. I've heard that the Final Fantasy game(s) coming out for the GCN and GBA might use the link function somehow. One rumor was that a FF game would be released for both the GCN and GBA, and then you could transfer your saved game from the GCN version to the GBA, so you could play it while traveling. As you can see, the GCN - GBA Cable will have many different uses. I really doubt that you'll substitute the GBA for another GCN controller, though. Except on Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble 2, because you'll need the tilt cartridge to control Kirby.
The Vampire: Ed
Well, it's not just a GCN controller in general. The hook up will also allow you to play GBA games on your TV set, at least that's the way it looked/sounded on the GBA box.

Hmm, you need a special peripheral to actually play your GBA games on a television. These types of peripherals usually involve opening up the GBA, which voids the warranty. I've heard that some of them are really delicate too. But, referring to what you said, no, hooking up the GBA to your TV set won't allow you to play them on the television. Refer to Desbreko's post for a general idea of what the connectivity allows. ;)
Desbreko
Yeah, you can't just plug the cable in to the GCN and GBA and play the GBA on your TV... I really wish you could, though... (I'd have the cable now, if you could do that). So far as I know, there's no way that you can play your GBA on a TV without opening up your GBA and modifying it. You know what would be cool? I'm not sure if this would actually be possible or not, but I think it would be cool if Nintendo made something that plugs into one of the Memory Card slots on the GCN, that could hold as much as a GBA cartridge. Then you could download data from the GBA game to the GCN card thing, to play your GBA games on your TV. Kind of like in Pokémon Stadium 1 and 2, you could transfer data from the GB Pokémon game to the N64. Come to think about it, they probably could have done this, just using the RAM on the GCN (since you wouldn't have to load the whole game at any one time)... But if they were going to let you play just any GBA game on your TV using the GCN, I think they'd make an accessory that you'd have to buy... But considering how much they can fit on some of the flash cards, and other things like that, I think it could be done. I suppose it would mainly depend on whether the GCN can access the data on the Memory Cards fast enough; if it can't read the data on the flash card, or whatever it is, fast enough, you'd get slowdown, which is almost never a good thing.
Fall
Maybe they'd come up with something easier to allow you to play GBA games on the T.V. through the GCN, like they did with the N64 (Pokemon Stadium, Gameboy Transfer Pack) But yeah, you'd have to buy it, or maybe it's come free with a game? This is quite possible when you think about it....
Break
Maybe the GBA + GCN thingy would act kinda like the SuperGameboy adapter, that would be cool if it did. And if you got extra stuff from it :). Yeah, I reckon it would be like a Transfer Pack as well.
