Most people probably like the GameCube because of the company behind it. Obviously, Nintendo has created many of the most wildly successful gaming franchises. Exclusive games of high quality are very important in determining a console's success. There are a lot of gamers out there who wouldn't part with the Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Star Fox, Donkey Kong, Perfect Dark and Pokemon franchises. Then, there are the smaller franchises such as 1080 Snow Boarding, WaveRace, Smash Brothers (reallysuccessful, but fairly new), and many others.

So, basically, GameCube is a good system because it's guaranteed to have hit games. Also, it's fairly small and simple. Yep, it's the simplicity and killer exclusives that even made me, shell out the cash for one.

I really like the overall system...Nintendo got to a Really good start with GCN and it has a very promising future. Even though it isn't really 128-bit...it's a lot easier for deleopers to program great games for and the S3 texture compression along with the progressive scan ability really pushes the limits of graphics and framerates to that of a PC.

Well, the Xbox is only 64-Bit, yet has more horsepower than the GameCube. So as I always say, bitrate is irrelevant.

I think that the traits of a truly good console are, at the end of the day, its games.

GameCube has the enviable position of being backed by Nintendo, who in many ways is the world leader in video game software development. Nintendo has consistently created standards which others follow, whether it be the invention of the light gun, the D-Pad or the entire platform game genre. The innovations are endless.

The fact that so many unique and fundamentally high quality franchises find a home on GameCube makes the console a very special system.

But moreover, third party exclusives like Resident Evil will also really round out the GameCube's content.

Then you have titles like Eternal Darkness and Metroid Prime. Two games being made by second parties, but which have heavy input from Nintendo itself.

For me personally, the GameCube represents everything that a video game console should. It's not there for the image, to listen to MP3s or to buy pizza online. It's there for games and games only. And that's surely a good thing for those who want high quality gaming experiences.

I like the overall system. Some games are alright, but I also saw a game the other day that the graphics on it were completely wasted of the capability that the game could've supported... (hope that sounds right... :drunk: )

So, the overall system is why I like it.

You're all crazy, the handle is by far the GCN's best feature, LOL. Seriously, though, the first party games *cough*Zelda*cough* are the main reason I like the GCN. And the second party games, also. Can't be forgetting Metroid Prime, now can we? :) It's going to be the first first person shooter that I'll have ever bought, and probably the first one that I'll really actually like. Perfect Dark was good (I rented and beat it on co-operative with my brother), but I mainly only liked the deathmatch. Metroid Prime looks as though it's going to change my oppinion about first person shooters.

The main reason I bought a GCN is because I know Nintendo wouldn't let me down. I've stuck with Nintendo from the very beggining, and i'm not gonna stop now. As long as they keep making those good old Mario, Zelda, Metroid and other favorites I grew up on, I'll stick with Nintendo through thick and thin, to the bitter end.

I can see your reason behind it, but saying that you like Nintendo because they are Nintendo isn't going to cut it. There is a chance, yes, a slim one, that they may indeed let you down, and you wasted your money just because of the company that created the system. But GameCube, they're much more than that. Their features, I believe, give an excuse within itself to like the system. As I say, I remain netural when it comes to which gaming system is the best. So when I take a system and break it down, sure, I look at the company, but I mainly focus on the system's qualities and their games. Ah, yes, their games. I agree with CWB and James in saying that such games cannot go un-noticed when dealing with Nintendo and their newest platform, GCN. Whether this be Super Smash Brothers Melee, Resident Evil, or even Metroid Prime, these titles will stand out in the future with other bests. Yes, the portability is good. But what can a system do without games? And if they arn't even good, then what good is that system? Nintendo shows us all that good games makes a system great, and that is why I believe their best feature is the games the have made, are making, and will make.

What I meant was that I know Nintendo will allways make my favorite games like Mario, Zelda and Metroid, along with other games that will only be on Nintendo systems. If I know Nintendo is making a system, I know these kind of games will follow with even more games I'm gonna like.

Of corse you can't have a system without games, thats just common sense, but if a company has a precidence for good games, I'll buy for the system and the company.

Its like I said, I'll stick with Nintendo to the bitter end.

The reason that I bought a Gamecube is because of the games that can only be bought for a Nintendo system Mario, Zelda, Star Fox, Donkey Kong, Perfect Dark, etc. Also I had a hope that Nintendo and Squaresoft would get back together and make some games that are exculsive to the Gamecube.
Originally posted by SpikeyI personally like it because Nintindo made it. I also like it because of the graphocs too. They are really good. I also like it because of the games.
The games are coming along very well at the moment, like Spiderman (can't wait 'till I get that one ;)), and Gauntlet..... there's a variety of good games coming out on the GCN, that's another reason why I like it aswell....

I know what you mean. Variety in Nintendo's first party games is always nice. I mean, no one can say that Nintendo doesn't please a wide audience. I mean, look at Smash Bros, Pikmin, Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine and Wave Race. They certainly don't stick to one particular genre, that's for sure.

Wave Race? That's also on the PSX.... I have a copy.... though there's no way it'll be as good as it is on the GCN...

Also, how can we forget Resident Evil! That's looking awesome right now, I'm struggling to wait for it to be released....

Umm, no... Wave Race isn't on the PSX... The Wave Race games are first-party Nintendo games, meaning that you'll only find them on Nintendo systems. I'm pretty sure there are other jet-ski racing games on the PSX, though, so it's probably a game that's similar to Wave Race.

Yeah, Wave Race is made by Nintendo, there was one on the Gameboy, one on the N64, now there's one on the GCN. I've seen someone play Wave Race: Blue Storm, it looks confusing, but very extremely cool :).

Yah, there's a jet-ski game on the PSX, I don't know the name of it though.
