Megaman Zero!

Has anyone here heard about the new Megaman Series coming out for GBA? It's premiering in Japan in a few days. I personally can't wait to get my hands on the english version!

STORY, from what I have been able to determine...

Humans have created a new city utopia called Neo Arcardia, and now finally can protect themselves against the Maverick Reploids. However, the Reploids themselves have come under fire from the fearful humans, forcing them to hide away to protect themselves. Now, in the year 21XX, the forces of the Human government are nearing one of the last refuges for Reploids left.

A young Reploid girl named Til remembers of a legendary Reploid named "Zero" whom, even now, slumbers, waiting to be awakened....

DEVELOPMENTS, nothing's sure yet though.

Zero, yes the same Zero from MMX, is the hero in the game.
He and all the characters have a new look, more slimmer and, in a way, Chibi-fied. Similar in drawing style to Megaman Battle Network. GAmeplay is closer to the classic style.
Love it or hate it, take your pick.

Zero has new weapons;
He has a gun(separate from the arm!),
A beam sword(*What* is Zero without his trusty sword?),
A glaive-like rod(multi-directional attacking!),
And a shield ability(can be converted to an energy attack!).

I cannot tell from translation whether or not it is the memory of Zero's actions which is lost, or if Zero himself has lost his memory.

X....has a place in the game. I don't know yet, but he's there. I've heard rumors that he might actually be a enemy in this game. Perhaps even the big one? Who knows? Hell, he might have been inflicted with the Sigma virus for all we know right now.

If you want proof, go to http://babelfish.altavista.com/, switch the translation to Japanese, and type in:
http://www.capcom.co.jp/product/rockmanzero/index.html

There's pictures, and such there.

Your friendly Megaman informer, signing off!

Yes, this is exciting news for all the Megaman fans who always wanted the original 2-D side scrolling game to come on the GBA, as for me I am excited as well.;)

I too have readed rumors about Megaman X playing as a badguy this time around rather than being the hero like he always does.My best guess is just like yours X probaly have been affected by the Sigma Virus, or maybe his mind got taked over by a new enemy. But who knows?

I wonder whats the story behind all this fuzz it seems quite odd so far, well we'll see when the day comes.

Speaking of Megaman, there's also gonna be another game releasing soon in Japan or maybe it already did release but anyways that game will be the sequel to Megaman Battle Network which is part two of the series.I heard rumors of Bass (Forte) plays a bigger role this time around than he did in the original.

What have they done to Zero!?! They made him ugly!!! Bleck... I like the old Zero better...

Well, I might get this game when/if it comes out in the US... I haven't played many Megaman games, but the ones I have played were fun. Hopefully it won't be insanely difficult, like some others that I've played.

I say, Zero seriously looks like a girl in that picture..... They've made him uglier than anyone wouldv'e imagined if you ask me....

Anywayz, they should have left him like he was, that way it would have been better.

I think Zero is supposed to be a guy... The voices in Megaman X5 sounded like a guys voice. He does look kind of like a girl in those pictures, though.

One question, though: How do you decide whether to get this one, or Megaman Xtreme 2?

Lol, Zero and his long blonde hair.Zero's long hair may make him look like a girl, but nonetheless he's a guy.In X4 Zero loved a girl robot name "Iris" but because the death of her brother, she foughted with Zero to get revenge.

At the end Zero didn't wanted to kill her, but he accidently did so after that he was emotionly hurt and angered. If thats nots proof enough for any of you just remember he has a guy voice and he's X best bud.

Megaman Xtreme 2 is already out on the Gameboy Color, so I recommend trying this one out first. Its one the best GBC game that have ever come out, it includes classic bosses from X,X2, and X3.

The storyline is great it deals with bosses that X & Zero have already defeated that keeps on reappearing back, so their on a mission to find out whats the reason behind this. The gameplay engine is similar to the X series, so fans like myself will have a blast with this game.;)

As for the new game "Megaman Zero" is a future title which I don't think it will be released that early, probaly by the end of this year or maybe even next year.So my advice is to get Megaman Xtreme 2 first, and wait till the future when Megaman Zero releases.

Bah. I'm kinda disapointed that they're making ANOTHER series, rather than bringing closure to the Original... I would REALLY like to see what happens to Wily, and Rock, and Forte, and Blues... *sigh*

Edit--And Roll. Can't forget Roll. ;)

Another Edit--And yes, Zero (who is a guy, duh..) looks VERY wierd. I prefer the original..

I'm definately looking forward towards this game becuase I just love the X series (or anything connected to it now:D ) LOL, I had a feel someone would ask if Zero is a girl or guy since it was a very debated question ever since the Megaman X series started on the SNES. He's a guy, don't let the hair or his armor fool you. (My proof comes from Megaman X4....) Anyways, I don't like Zero's new look that much either but it suits a whole new story to the series itself. The only thing I'm worried about is the controls... I think despite how great the series is (and its traditional gameplay) the limited buttons on the GBA will seriously hurt the game. Its games like this that demands you to act at the blink of an eye just to dodge an attack. I really hope capcom figures out a way to get around that. If anyone wants any more info on the X or this series, PM or something. (You can practically call me the God of Megaman X:D - Rick Hunter can back me up on this.)

Well heck, that doesn't matter. Look at the original NES MM games... They had 4 buttons. A, B, Start, Select, and the D-Pad... And they were good during their time. The MM games and the X series on SNES were awesome, and they had A, B, Y, Z, Left, Right, Start, Select, and a D-pad... And two of those weren't really used much... (A and B, I think..)

The number of buttons on a console doesn't really mean anything. Just as much can be accomplished with the GBA's A, B, Left, Right, Start, Select and the D-pad... Just look at Tekken Advance.

So yeah, I think MM Zero will rip, and as much as I would like to see closure to the original series, this new game will be a must-buy. :)

Okay,I know Kuja is going to yell at me for this,But since i am not posting a link, It should be fine.

I got Megaman Zero On a Rom! It is AWSOME! At the first boss, You only have a gun, But half way through the battle you get the Zet-Saber(Japanese name) and in one hit you cut the boss directly in half!

(Yes,That is what X looks like in the game*Points to Avatar*)

Well, even the X series didn't exactly use the SNES pad for all it was worth...I remember playing it (vaguely) and at least two of the buttons brought up menus/weapon changes.

So it wasn't exactly a huge evolution over the NES series. Mega Man Zero is looking awesome though...the dramatic shift in storyline seems interesting.

I might buy it.

Yeah, on Mega Man X the L and R buttons just scrolled through your weapons so you didn't have to go to the menu screen... Lets see, I think Y was shoot, B was jump... I can't remember A and X doing anything...

But like I said, I might get it. Depends on its difficulty... I'm not very good at Megaman games... :cross:

Please note that as of posting this, This game is yet to be released in America.

Capcom has finally released Mega Man Zero in Japan, and we've had a chance to play through a small portion of the game. The first thing you'll notice about Mega Man Zero--which takes place 100 years after the other Mega Man X games--is that it actually doesn't actually feature Mega Man as its hero. Instead, you'll play as Mega Man's longtime rival and occasional ally Zero, because Mega Man has apparently turned evil and enslaved the world. A young scientist and her crew of soldiers are driven deep into a junkyard area by a group of large robots when they discover Zero and try to reactivate him. After the soldiers are demolished, the scientist tries one last time to reactivate Zero and is successful. From there, you start playing as Mega Man's crimson counterpart.

After escorting the scientist through a portion of the first level, you'll stumble upon one of the large robots seen earlier. Since Zero only has a pistol weapon, you have to take shots at the boss from a distance while avoiding the powerful lasers that he shoots out of his mouth toward the ground and the ceiling. When you get his energy level down to a certain point, a matrix-like object--which has been associated with Mega Man in images on Capcom's site--appears on a monitor in the background, and all of a sudden, Zero's sword flies onto the screen and pierces the ground next to him, allowing him to grab it. With one quick slash, the giant level boss robot is cut in two, and Zero and the scientist then head back to what appears to be the resistance base. From that point on, you have access to two weapons, the pistol and the energy sword.

In the character menu screen, you'll be able to select which is the primary weapon and which is the secondary weapon. The primary can be used simply by pressing the B button, but to use the secondary weapon, you have to press the R shoulder button along with the B button, which can be a little awkward at times. You may find yourself switching the primary and secondary settings in the menu as opposed to just sticking with that control scheme.

This same menu will let you mess around with the support character system, which Capcom has called the "cyber elf system." As you progress through the game, you'll occasionally come across floating balls of light--these are the cyber elves, which essentially function like the familiars in Symphony of the Night. Some will give you health, some will stop enemies from moving, and others will fire projectiles as you run. You can use them just once over the course of the level, and you'll only be able to carry three different types of cyber elves at a time. To switch cyber elves, you have to return to the resistance base to equip the three that you want to take with you on your next mission.

The core gameplay mechanics in Mega Man Zero are essentially the same as those found in previous Mega Man games. Zero can run, shoot, jump, climb walls, and dash. Much like in previous games in the series, the levels themselves are linear, but some major changes have been made to the overall game structure for this installment. Instead of having a screen where you select from several different bosses, Mega Man Zero uses a central hub system that uses the aforementioned resistance base as its hub. You'll be able to move around the rather large base and speak with various members of the resistance. When you want to take on a mission, you simply go talk to the scientist and have a brief conversation in which you can select from one of three or four missions. Interestingly, it seems that the mission selection changes depending on the conversation, but either way, it's a distinctly different approach to the typical Mega Man interface.

There's also a little more variety in the levels. Though most of the game is just straight run-and-gun action, there are portions where you'll have to slow down. In one level, there is a room that's completely wired with security cameras searching for intruders, so you'll have to evade detection. This isn't really all that difficult because you'll see targets appear on the screen to indicate where the cameras are focused, but if you happen to get caught, a series of flying spiderlike robots will be sent your way, and if you can't fend them off, you'll be captured and the game will end.

The Mega Man series has almost always represented the pinnacle of 2D action gaming when it comes to graphics, and it looks like that tradition will continue on the Game Boy Advance. Zero is detailed and animates fluidly, as do his resistance cohorts. The enemies are also quite detailed--especially the boss characters, which are made up of enormous sprites--and have multiple death animations depending on the weapon you use to kill them. It's easily one of the best-looking Game Boy Advance games to date.

But even more surprising than the graphics is the game's sound. From the remixed Mega Man X theme in the early portions of the game to the completely original tracks, Mega Man Zero sounds great, with almost Super Nintendo-quality sound without that weird background fuzz effect that can be heard in so many other Game Boy Advance games.

While we've only scratched the surface of the game, Mega Man Zero is already shaping up to be a worthy installment in the 2D Mega Man line. It's scheduled for release in this territory in Q4 2002.

Hmmm... There's already a Megaman Zero thread around... You should've posted there.

There, I merged the two threads. :) - Desbreko

Oh, and with your info, you have a few mistakes, but they don't really matter that much...

Anyway, you're right in saying it's a great game. I've already played it a-...Erm... You should forget I said that. ^_^;;;

Anyway, even though I already know about all this, thanks for sending in the info! As James said, I'm sure many will be happy to see this info.

........well i did it people.......I'm on Megaman Zero overload right now. After looking at Zero Sama's avatar...... Grrr.......
I've obtained some rather unsettling information.... I ain't gonna say unless if ya want me to PM me. Zero Sama already might know once he's done with the rom.... Anyways after seeing this game in action personally, I am pleased to say that this is gonna be one awesome game. The controls aren't as annoying as I orginally thought it was and the GFX are much better than the screen shots that are out there and some of the best I've seen on the GBA. However capared to the rom, the cartrige can be better if the lighting is good enough (and for those who are getting their GBA internally lit soon are in for a treat:p ) I already know too much about the story as it is (and everyone else i bet too) but I think its safe to say that once the english verison comes out, it'll truly be a blessing. Looks like it wasn't such a bad idea to bring this game to the gba after all....:babble:

I'm really looking forward to this game. From the screens it looks a lot like the X games, does it play the same too? I hope it's better than some of the current X games, I don't think they're doing that great, I still havn't gotten X6, but I heard it isn't as good as the other ones, I'm hoping this one will be better.

Also the A button did the dash, when you get the boots.

Actually it does. Capcom found a way to make game's fighting styles to those who like X or Zero. You can use the sword just like you normally use Zero or use the gun just like you normally use X. Yes you can also charge the gun but as far as using weapons from defeated enemies I not sure, I stopped playing the ROM to prevent futher damage to my experience. Everything you expected from an X game is here, from climbing walls to dashing. Be warned though, for some people the controls are gonna be a little awkward, particularly those who don't have much experience with the gameboy itself. The default settings are: B is the gun, A is jump, L is dash and you have to hold R while pressing B to use the sword. Forunately, capcom has given the option to change the controls but how much I don't know since I can't read Japanese. Moreover the gameplay isn't the like the usually pick a level with a boss in it and take him out. In fact they make the levels missions that you get information on by talking to other people and you decide what to do and its outcome depending on your decisions. It kinda puts a little bit of an RPG feel there.

I can't elaborate on the story since I won't spoil it for others like what Zero Sama did nor I don't have any additional info than what is out now. (Again I don't know Japanese.) Graphics are nice and very detail for a handheld game. Best example is if you use the gun to defeat an enemy, they blow up while the sword slices them in half. This is all the stuff I can say without blowing the story. I don't know if this game will be better than the current X games. Its likely it is since Capcom actually went out of their way to make new characters, gameplay, story, etc. for the GBA, much like how when Megaman X was first introduced to the SNES. Capcom even stresses that it will be the 'hardest' Megaman game they made. (I don't know if thats good or bad, I'm having some troble with Megaman Xtreme 2 as it is.)

Now as for X6, I posted my opinion about that game in another Megaman thread but here's a quick summary: its mad frustrating. Story is kinda weak and the return of certain character is pretty lame. For veteran MM gamers its certainly a crazy challenge with that nightmare system. Lastly it helps link the story in Megaman Zero.

The game comes out in the USA in september so I guess you guys in the UK can expect it a little later or earlier.

Hmm... was that remake about the UK towards me? Yeah, I live there, but I'm really an american living overseas, who just happens to be moving this mouth and having everything packed up on sunday. So you won't be seeing much of me for like two mounths. (Long story).

That's good to here though, I'm glad their taking the story in a new direction, but the least they could do is finish the first story. I think it sounds intresting. I like the idea of it playing like X and Zero, I could never decide which I like better in the X games. I know I'll by X6 in the end, I'm a pretty hardcore megaman fan, and have played about half of the original ones and all of the X ones, it's just I'm a little skeptic about it. Anyways thanks for the info.
