:flaming:
This is ridiculous, every day when i go to school i get wierd looks from people because i go with my Sailor Moon bookbag. It's so stupid! I mean these people come up to me and say..
"My little sister watches that show and she's only six!"
Of course I know that little kids watch this show, I'm not ignorant but I have all the right to obsess about whatever I want too! Sometimes I feel like the only one. :smirk: But we anime fans are all over the place! Anyone else having this problem?!

Not really. My brothers like anime, and my mom and dad watch it sometimes. I have a friend who watches a little bit of it, and another who doesn't watch it but thinks that it's cool that I like it and he thinks the art is cool too. I don't like Sailor Moon, but stand up for what you like Maxwell!

I have that problem. People are like prejudice agaist people who like certain TV shows! How dumb is that?!? I wouldn't deny the fact that I totally obsess over anime, but I don't go around school shouting it either. ^^ I mean, everyone thinks anime is really dumb, mostly thanks to Pokemon, and DBZ. Now, I love DBZ just as much as the next person, but most people think it's the dumbest thing on the planet. What really ticked me off was when I had my MSN messenger name as "Kamui" and someone from school came on. After I told her how to pronounce it she was like "oh, like one of your Pokemon things!" No. Not like one of 'my' pokemon things. It has NOTHING to do with Pokemon. I almost hit her.....

*Ok. Just wanted to finally say that! ^^

I get that allot like one time I wore a DBZ shirt to school one day and someone came up to me and said "you still watch cartoons" in a really disgusted way and when I say it was not cartoons it was anime she said "oh like one of those pokemon things" then when I replied no it's "Dragonball Z" she said "man you are a geek". I had to stop myself from hitting her I was so mad. But now that more people in my school are into anime I don't get it so much anymore.

Hm, I think that happens sometimes. Some people think I'm weird because I loved playing Yoshi's Story...which even a four year old could beat. lol

Still, for me...I prefer more "adult orientated" anime. DB is too kiddie/silly for me...that's why I like Teknoman and quite a few anime movies.

Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell and Battle Angel Alita are my favourites. :)

Well, in my school, anime is just awesome. But if you don't like it, then you don't shoot people down for it. I have friends who are HUGE animes fans and let's say that they could probably beat up just about anyone with their size. lol Lots of the younger kids have DBZ pics and stuff in their folders. Then the students around my age have folders upon folders, just filled with awesome anime pics they've printed off the net. :D I guess I'm lucky living where I am. I don't think I'd be able to go to a school where people make fun of what you watch. I mean at first they pick on you because the way you dress, look, act, but WHAT YOU WATCH?! lol I find that so dumb of people. I say, just ignore those people. Would I do that? Porbably not. lol

Yeah, I HAVE to agree with that, Sandra! My school isn't the type where people go around making fun of people every second, but yeah, the "popular kids" do it an awful lot.

One day I was doodling on a piece on paper in Reading class cuz it's boring. I was drawing Link's head when this snobby girl comes up to me and says,
"WHAT in the World are YOU drawing?"
"Um, Link, I don't think you know him."
"Oh, like that Pokemon stuff! You are such a freak."

(My friend says I draw really good, so I guess you can tell the difference between Link and pokemon characters. I mean seriously, LINK and ASH? I think anybody can tell the difference).

Then one day I saw this boy I knew wearing a DBZ t-shirt and people were looking at him like he was the freak of all time. Then this girl walks up and says,
"Is that a CARTOON show? Only kids watch cartoons now, and we're in SIXTH grade."

Then she walked off like some model or something and I got pissed off. They don't even know the difference between anime and cartoons and they're making fun of it. I mean she's the one talking about disney shows all day (not making fun of it!) and we hardly ever talk about anime shows. So to this day I stay as far away from these idiots as possible and stick around with my friends who don't mind anime.

Oh yeah, and Sandra? I gotta admit. I don't hate Sailor Moon or something, but if the whole school is wearing black or blue bookbags and I saw a colorful bookbag with a picture of Sailor Moon on it, well, I wouls look too. ^^

I feel everyone's pain here too. I also get pestered with people saying: "You still see cartoons?!?!" I feel kinda sorry for those who say that because I think they have limited minds. The main reason why I like ANY anime is because you can do what you can't do in movies and such. Where else do you see characters that can get hit with nuclear warheads and survive? or have sword fights with 50 foot tall machines? In anime of course. Also, creators can make up a whole new 'face' for a hero in every anime thats is out there. I guarantee there is not one anime who there who's characters show up in another anime other than the one its from. In 'real' movies you can watch 10 or more movies that can have the same actor appear in all of them. Finally, anime always seems to capitvate me more than regular movies. Very rarely do I ever care if a character dies in a regular movie than what I usually feel when one from an anime does.

So I pity those who haven't watched any good anime other than DBZ or pokemon. I say they should look into some and see if they find anything thats interesting to them since there's just about any kind of anime for everyone (robots, magic, med-evil, etc.)

hehe...where's Shyguy in this topic, anyway....?

Meh. I'm in high school, and I'm a digimon fan. And the funniest thing is, two of my greatest friends I've got turned out to like it, too. Didn't know that before, o' course....

If people ever use the argument "You still watch cartoons?"... just simply reply "Do you watch the Simpsons" or replace Simpsons with South park or something... they are bound to answer yes... in which case you say "Thought so" and walk off stage left.... That way you leave them wondering about how you just shot them down... and then they'll go and fail their english test or something....

I used to have people say "you still watch cartoons?" quite a few times in the past, I merely just say "why, don't you?", always stops them in their tracks....

but in the past year or two I haven't really had anyone questioning me regarding me watching anime, I've even gone to college wearing a few anime shirts, like this cool samurai shirt I bought, didn't even grab any real attention....

I am personally a sophmore in high school. i got my own little anime group and we even started a club. "International Art Appreciation" was the name of the club. No one but those who are anime fans know its an anime club. Then its so silly that people mock us. Its none of there business. I just stick with my anime friends and when that solo hater comes around and sees a group of us... :modrod:
Even though all those haters are out there, the guy i :love2: is an anime fan and thats how we met. We wouldn't never have clicked if it wasn't for our obsessions about anime. So personally I would never give up my obsession for popularity or anything. In a way they've helped me in a lot of ways!

Most kids in my school hate anime and so do most of my friends that go to other schools. One of my friends is a big fan of anime and is proud of it so people think he's wierd. I don't think it's easy to like anime in most places and everyone thinking your cool for doing that. I wish it were different here.

In my school very few people hate animé. Even the "cool kids" respect it (maybe because they know it's dangerous to get on my list). Anyway, when I started drawing I tought that someone would make fun of it, but everyone loves my drawings. Hell, they even made me put one as a poster on the classroom! :D

People call me "weird" because I'm 22 and have anime posters covering my dorm wall. You know what I say to that? I say, "Look at you in your full prep ensomble, ready to get jumped. And you say that I'm weird? I'm not the one to walk around asking people to beat me to a bloody quivering mass of goo."

:( Yeah throughout most of my high school life I was was teased about anime. What really bugs me is when a person categorizes, anime as a cartoon. It is quite obvious that anime and cartoons are not the same. Lucky about in the 3rd year of my high school, I founded the anime club, and soon found that there were many anime fans out there, just that they kept a low profile.

I know it my be hard at times to be an anime fan, because many of us get laughed at or teased. But I believe that the day will come in which Anime will be widely accepted, and fully respected as artwork and not as a cartoon!

 Cough, thats enough ranting for today!
