Anime Fans are isolated...Opinions?

Oh please, anime is so popular these days. There are always 10 people in every high school that watch it religiously. A few years ago it would have been much weirder to see people wearing anime attire and such. But now it's much more common and is being made fun of less. You people make it seem as though you're in a foreign country where you don't speak the language.

Imagine if you liked animation from China or some other country like that. Yeah, anime doesn't seem so bad now, does it?

Thats not a proven fact, it all depends on the area you live in, not all schools have even 10 fans religiously, I don't see your point in flamming everyone who has posted here either, just because you don't like whats been said, it gives you no right to flame so please don't ever post in this forum with an attitude like that it simply is not welcomed thank you!;)

Sincerely,
Kevin!

I live in a relativiely small area, and anime isn't that popular. We don't have any cons, any major anime stores, and the only people that really like anime are the MAJOR outcasts or the ones that only own DBZ shirts. Everyone knows what anime is, but no, I don't think there are 10 people in my school that watch it religiously. There may be like.....2, though. And Rick's right. You have no right to flame everyone here. You don't know where everyone lives, you don't know everyone's situation. :o

Wrist Cutter, I am starting to think that you like to post arguments just to hear yourself talk. When I was in high school I can guarentee there were not ten people in my entire school who liked anime in general. Sure, there were probably ten people that had seen one anime movie or TV show and liked it, but there were not ten people who enjoyed it on a broad scale.

I know this because at the time anime was not big in the area that I live in. I went to a very small school, knew everyone that I graduated with in highschool, and there were very few people that had any interest in anime at all

Well gee, if I liked to hear myself talk, I probably wouldn't be posting on a message board.

Keywords in your post - when I was in high school. The anime fad is really recent in America... even as little as last year, anime was far more rejected than it is now.

And obviously, if you go to a small school, the amount of anime fans there is going to go down.

 Yes it is very apparent that you like to start arguments on the boards, but this forum is not the place to do so, if you have nothing worth while to contribute then please do not post here!

By the way, I just graduated last year from HS, and still keep in contact with my friends that are still there and anime has not become as full blown everywhere as you claim!:)

Thank You!;)

Nowhere did I say "full-blown everywhere"... I DID call it a fad and it is one, but not particularly among high school students, mainly elementary kids. In high school it's rare to see many anime fans, but it's so much more common now than ever. I think you're all lucky to be interested in anime in a time where it's accepted on a broader scale.

I can't really comment on America specifically.

But when I was in high school, I noticed that anime was actually pretty widely accepted. I often overheard people talking about anime on DVD and such...and even many entertainment magazines here have small sections discussing anime of some nature.

So I'm certainly not an expert on it, but I've definitely noticed that it's become more prominent recently...although in this country, anime has been pretty "mainsteam" for many years...probably because of our close relationship with Japan.

Anime, in American wasn't "mainstream" till DBZ came along... and even then, it wasn't mainstream till about what is called the "third season" of DBZ here. Which was like 2-3 years ago and nothing longer. Thats it. Well actually, Pokemon was kinda popular before then, but thats just stupid because America tore that show up so much... besides that point, MORE anime wasn't popular in America till the third season of DBZ. Which as stated before, wasn't that long ago.

There's always that one REAL anime fan who devotes his/her life to watching as much anime, in Japanese mind you, as possible. Then you have the former anime fan who's watched alot of animes and knows quite a bit of info on the majority (Jimmy, thats you)... then there's the devoted anime fan, but usually just to one or two shows. Whether it be DBZ, Gundam Wing, this that or the other. They know anything and everything from that one series, but have seen others, just not a much. Then there's the Pokemon fans.. they don't count... You have the anime "fan" who has seen a small amount of full series (as in watched them all) but has seen about 1 epsidoes or clip from a large majority of anime. And finally you have your anime fan who is a typical "dubbie" who watches whats put on American TV, and usually that person is below the age of 16.... either doesn't know wher to find Japanese epsiodes, isn't intrested ion them or just can't afford them.

Thats how I see the world of anime :)

Anime is a fad, but in elementary school, most people don't even know what they're watching is anime. I was babysitting 2 elementary shool boys, and when I asked them if they liked anime, they had no clue what I was talking about. Of course he knew what Gundam Wing, DBZ, etc. were, but no other anime. Mostly just the stuff on Toonami and such. And yes, we are lucky anime is more well-known now, and I think it will be even more so in years to come, becasue of Cartoon Network and Fox. So yeah, Anime's a fad, but as long as they don't over-do it, like with Pokemon, it should last for a while with all luck. ^^

well this is in response to wrist cutter saying that anime is just a fad with the elementary school kids. WRONG!!!!! why are you even on this forum, i mean if you think anime is a fad. i know people who watched anime in the 1980's. if its a fad then its lasted a pretty long time. anime is not a fad it is a way of life for some people and i dont want you saying things that you dont know about. elementary school kids only got into it because they saw the teenagers love it and i dont want you saying kids started it. in my opinion i think that you should keep your mouth shut if you don't got anything SMART to say! There!!! :flaming:

Don't you think you're over reacting just a little too much... well no... don't think... you are.... You sound like some 8 year old Quatre fan defending him because someone insulted him.

DO you know what the word "fad" means? Apparently not, judging by what you said in your post. A fad is when something becomes EXTREMELY popular EXTREMELY fast and usually fades away in due time. Back in the 80's anime wasn't popular in America. I grew up in the 80's, I know...

ANime may not be a fad with only elementory school kids, but mainly in those age ranges... Elementory to Middle School. High School seems to have the more mature (although not all the time, as there is ample proof to show right here) people that tend to grow out of "cartoons" and watch something like Friends or that other crap thats on American prime time. The majority of HS students DO NOT watch anime on a regular basis. Which goes to proove that the fad of anime, which it is a fad, is mainly structured in the Elementory to Middle School age range with children. And as stated before, this does not only apply to them, but, the MAJORITY (key word here) are those age ranges.

Now if you would think for a second without over reacting on everything, you would have been able to figure out what was said...

Because I get a pretty messed-up feeling of superiority when I piss people like you off.

Other than that Transtic basically cleared the rest up.

Back on topic...

My family thinks I'm ...different... because I watch anime. The only person in my family that will pay attention to it is my 11 yr. old cousin, and she's one of those people who thinks DBZ is the only good anime, and claims their obsessed with it, when they don't know who Buu is. So basically, I'm the outcast.....

;) Well I will concure with TN, anime currently is a fad, it was not really mainstream for the exception of robotech In the 80's, which some may argue wether it could technically be considered one since it took 3 anime shows and merged it into one story serverly altering the plots of all 3 shows! So anime hasn't become that mainstream until recently thanks to some 10-12yr old shows like DB and DBZ!;)

Note, please no more flamming each other, treat others as you would yourself!:p

In my school, Only my friend and I watch anime. There are like 2 kids that watch DBZ and think everything else sucks ( even though they know nothing about it.) Then theres this one kid who thinks anime is just "cartoon porn". I usually get the " YOU watch Cartoons?" thing too. I cant even read Animerica or draw without getting teased.

No, no, no. You're not different, you're "special":toothy:. Lol. I know my family thinks I'm weird, and they don't even know the half of my anime obsession, besides the fact I buy new anime every week (we always go on Friday, it's just routine now ^^) and I tell my mom about almost every show I see, down to the very last detail of every character. I think I drive her nuts......:cross: Ah well......^^

Im gonna get all media studentified - ill think you'll find anime' WAS a HUGE craze during the 80's, hence the so called 'anime explosion' in America following the release of titles such as Akira. On another note from what i can see here in the UK the anime fad has already peaked and is now fading, ppl are going to go back to saying 'god, i can't believe u still watch cartoons at your age' and u know what? ...i do :D.

Ive never realy been that outcast because of THAT, i also know quite a few ppl who like anime and read manga who i can speak too about it.....

:nono: Transtic Nerve i know what a fad is. personally i started watching anime when i was six, and i got it from my older cousin. he grew up watching it and he was born in 1975. so i think i know what im talking about. just because you didn't here about it prior to the '90s doesn't mean im wrong.
also i'd like to ask you this. wasn't Star Wars just a fad? thats how it got started. now there are fourty year old men still talking about Darth Vadar. (This was happening YEARS after the final Star Wars and YEARS brfore the Star War Episodes.
So personally i think that you dont have to steep so low as to call me immature and stuff because im not here to fight. its just that i dont think its right that people talk and dont know all the information. :grumble:

My family really does not care since my father introduced me and my brothers to anime and my brothers and I are huge fans even my little brother knows that their are more animes then DBZ he is a fan of Tenchi, Yu Yu Hasako, Magic Knights Ray Earth, Blue Gender, Pilot Candidate, Cowboy Bebop,The Guyver, and the old Megaman anime. My older brother is more of a fan of the anime movies and has a large collection including 8-ball,Akira, Apple Seed, Goust in the Shell,Glogo 13, Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D,etc. So my family is pretty open to all forms of animation includind comics and manga.
